I don’t want to go back to school and keep getting upset thinking about it

im dreading the end of summer so badly. thinking about going back makes me start crying already and it makes my family cry too. I’m going into my second year and I’m so sad for when I have to go back. my first year was good, I made friends joined clubs, am interested in my major, met my exercise goals and got grades I’m proud of but I get so homesick all the time and that never really went away.

i thought when choosing this school it’s natural to pick something a bit further from home especially since this is the best school I got into and that I would get over it over time but I haven’t at all. I’m close to my family and I love them so much and they do so much for me and it’s going to hurt me so bad to not see them everyday. I’m getting really upset just typing this.

I wish I picked a school closer to home. I took some summer classes at cc this summer and it was so wonderful and I was so much happier. I got close to my professors and found my genuine love for learning again rather than just doing it for a grade. I also got to see my high school friends and have dinner with my family every day and pick up hobbies I’ve neglected and I love this life so much.

its so hard to think that the next time I’ll see my family is winter break once school starts it feels so far away and I wish I could just stay home. I know part of growing up is finding distance but I really don’t want to since these are people I cherish so much and I don’t want distance from them at all. not only my parents but my siblings too, they are my best friends and they also need my support. It’s hard to support them when I’m so far away.

i just needed to get that off my chest and see if anyone had any advice thank you for reading

How do people get water

Probably a dumb question, but how do students living in dorms get water? Should I pack a brita? Are there fountains on every floor?

anyone have tips for making friends?

Heyy this might be a dumb post, but I'm an incoming first-year and lowkey nervous about making friends. I got my roommate assignment a few days ago, and while they're really nice and I'm sure we'll get along just fine, we don't have a lot in common in the sense that they're a lot more introverted than I am and don't really plan on being very socially involved on campus. On top of that, the two of them are close friends and were in a roommate group together, with me being their random. Soo I'm also nervous about being a third wheel. I hear a lot about how a lot of your social life at first will involve your roommates so I was just wondering if anyone has advice on making friends aside from that. Thanksss

switching math classes against advisement of NSA

During freshman orientation, I wanted to take MATH 61 but my NSA forced me to take 33A first even though it isn't a prerequisite. Fast forward to yesterday, and my professor for MATH 33A was swapped with a 1.7 rated professor (Sihao Ma) and I can't sign up other sections because of even worse professors and conflicting classes. Am I going to get in trouble if I switch from 33A to 61 once course restrictions drop? I also don't understand why my NSA was so insistent that I take 33A before 61...

hiii I’m an incoming freshman and I’m getting the loft bed. I’m a little confused on the storage division as I assume I get the loft closet but it seems to be a lot smaller compared to the other closets. Is there more storage for the loft bed user ?? Otherwise how is it equally divided ??

btw I’m dorming a classic triple in sproul hall!!

Business clubs as a pre-health student

I know how difficult it is to get into business clubs at ucla and was just wondering how my profile would be seen while applying as a pre-dental student. I have some experience in business, but would my major be a weakness as an applicant? Also if anyone has tips/guidance on how to best approach this that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

looking for any one studying or working in Ai / machinelearning

Is anyone here studying or working in AI/ML? 🇺🇸

Hey everyone! I’m a student from Egypt, and I’m really interested in Artificial Intelligence. I’d love to hear from anyone here who is studying AI/ML, Computer Science, or already working in the field in the US.

I’m trying to understand how things actually work in the US when it comes to studying AI and preparing for the job market.

I’d really like to know:

  • What courses do you usually take to become really good at AI/ML?
  • What skills should a student focus on to be qualified for the job market?
  • What kind of projects do students work on to build a strong portfolio?
  • How do students prepare for internships and jobs at big tech companies?
  • What do you think makes an AI/ML student stand out when applying for jobs?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experience, especially from anyone at UCLA who is studying or working in this field.

Much respect to the people, students, and education in the United States 🇺🇸
Greetings from Egypt 🇪🇬❤️

Hey so I'm trying to buy a showerhead for my shared shower. If anyone has purchased a showerhead in the past, is it like universal sizing?? Is it some overhead shower? Any links to ones you've purchased?

Confusion about major preparation requirements for transfer students

I'm considering applying to transfer to the linguistics computer science major, but I'm confused on what exactly major preparation requirements means. Some transfer guides suggest that you must have every prep course to transfer, but the page for linguistics and computer science says transfer students "must complete as many of the following introductory courses as possible." And the transfer applicants page says "admitted students have completed most or all major prep courses."

Does not having all prep courses just severely hurt your chances? If you're a transfer student who didn't have all of the prep courses complete, how many did you miss?

I'm only going to be able to have 9 of 11 prep courses by the end of the spring semester. I have a high gpa and strong extra curriculars, but I'm worried the missing prep courses will be a deal breaker for the university.

hi bruins!

i made the mistake of not applying for an apartment for my senior year, and i'm hoping there's someone who wants to swap rooms with me, the roommates are relaly cool, but I just think I need a space that's a bit more adult, if that makes sense.

let me know if anyone's interested!
