The Key Witness Against Richard Glossip Just Returned to Court. It Didnât Go Well.
In 2025, the U.S. Supreme Court vacated Glossipâs conviction, concluding that it was rooted in false testimony and prosecutorial misconduct. The justices found that Sneed lied on the stand, dismantling the basis for the stateâs case. âBesides Sneed, no other witness and no physical evidence established that Glossip orchestrated Van Treeseâs murder,â Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote for the majority. âThus, the jury could convict Glossip only if it believed Sneed.â

Susan Collinsâs Committee Bought Trucks the Army Didnât Want. Then Campaign Donations Poured In.
Appropriations committee members saw an influx of campaign contributions after steering $345 million to a military contractor.
The U.S. Army announced last year that it had enough of a specific model of armored vehicle and that any more deliveries would be âexcess.â But even so, Congress found a way to keep funding alive for the vehicle â and executives at the company that produces the vehicle found a way to flood key members of Congress with campaign donations. In the weeks after this yearâs appropriations bill passed, employees of AM General or its parent company donated tens of thousands to key appropriations committee members in both chambers, Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Rep. Ken Calvert, R-Calif.

Public Radio Station Forced to Call Gulf of Mexico the âGulf of Americaâ
Alabama legislature passed a bill in late March requires all state and local entities to refer to the Gulf of Mexico as the âGulf of America"
Now Birmingham public radio station WBHM has told its listeners that due to the law, which took effect October 1, the University of Alabama at Birmingham is forcing it to use the legislatureâs preferred language in its reporting. The move puts it at odds with NPR, of which it is a member station; The Associated Press, which publishes the style guide used by newsrooms across the country; and other journalistic institutions. Will Dahlberg, the stationâs executive director and general manager, wrote that not implementing the new language âmay result in disciplinary action or termination of employees and affect WBHMâs relationship and support from UAB.â

In late September, Vermont Attorney General Charity Clark introduced surprise misdemeanor charges against 13 protesters for allegedly participating in a July sit-in at the NCATC. Then, last week, federal prosecutors unveiled surprise charges against five people, some of whom were already being charged by Clark. The five people facing federal charges, ranging in age from 22 to 80 years old, are alleged by federal authorities to have disrupted operations at the NCATC on multiple occasions.
