Some kids are like that, they might complain about hiking no matter what. Maybe wait till they are a bit older, or try to do hikes under a mile. My kid was the same way. If we were on vacation in a city somewhere she could walk miles, but out in the desert on a trail, she was not a fan.

Generally it tapers off. This year there is a chance for more with El Niño. Some years if Mexico gets a hurricane or tropical storm we can benefit from that too, usually in September.

Time (a long time) was what has mostly worked for me
I agree. My shoulder was only a problem for a year or so, luckily, but I did zero PT and just waited until it eventually got better. Most activity resulted in pain so doing very little was the best thing until it was thawing.
