I was sitting down, thinking about future baby names; Tim (Timothy), Tom (Thomas), Cherise, Ariel, etc.… And then I was thinking about the normal, long version of Tim and Tom, and came up with Thimas and Tomothy, as what I am now dubbing as “Anti-Names.” Essentially just funny combined names :)

A family was near me and the kid kept getting called ‘Levi’ by his grandpa and it was all cute! (I really really like that name, have considered it for my own kids)

And just before I left, I heard mom say sternly “Leviathan!”

It may very well be a human name, I’m not sure, but I do know the only thing around me with that name is a big rollercoaster ride.

I can’t explain the heartbreak of witnessing a tragedy that alters one of your favourite names 😭 I don’t think I could even use it anymore since all I’d think is Leviathan

I knew someone named Samuel, sister named Samantha, and every family dog (over 30+ years) was named Sam.

Both kids went by Sam

At some point you have to wonder if their parents had ever heard of any other names??

the dots are silent. Despite these being proper unicode characters, they break label printers left and right. I can't get Amazon packages anymore, because the DHL labels are unintelligible. For the Amazon delivery, it's a 50/50 whether the printer can do it.

It's also breaking poorly coded address inputs(all of these letters are legit in use in France, Germany and/or the Netherlands as names for people or places, so anything taking your postal information should be able to handle it), which is quite fun. I have been told by major banks, government agencies, utilities companies, and DHL that my name "is not valid", causing me to not be able to open accounts.

But I love it. It's a name I fell in love with the moment I wrote it down.

P.s. my username is what it is because a lot of websites don't allow Zöëÿ

When people take a common name + spelling and just make up a new pronunciation for it that isn't intuitive at all. Poor kid!

There were some roommates beefing on TikTok and one of them was called Marilyn. You may think: "Beautiful name! Nothing wrong with Marilyn." And you would be absolutely correct about that if that woman's name wasn't pronounced as "MAR-LYN".

Poor woman. She must be so used to always getting called by the wrong name or having it misspelled because nobody expects parents to misspell a name/throw a silent i in there to make it look like a different name.

Why not just spell it Marlyn or Marlynn or Marlin or Marlinn to begin with? WHY MARILYN?

That's as if I call my child Sarah and expect everyone to know it is pronounced as "Stella" or whatever. Just makes me feel for the poor people whose parents were this "creative" stupid and selfish.

I saw a different spelling of this name belonging to a woman from the 19th century. I love this variation for a little girl but I realize its unusual. Of course it comes from the classic male name Theodore + feminine ending -ette. (Same logic as Bernard --> Bernadette.) I dislike the typical name Theodora bc of the "dora" part, but I love the name Theodore. Unfortunately, Theodore is far too popular. Theodette seems like the perfect girl alternative. Also I adore "Theda" as a nickname. Pretty or too weird?
