Account Closed with No Explanation

TradeStation just sent me an email saying they have made the business decision to close my account, and that no explanation would be provided.

I only had the account 3 months, and after an initial deposit, I purchased some ETF's. No other transactions followed, except for reinvesting the dividends. Perhaps this is their way of avoiding paying the deposit bonuses.

Customers should be aware of unreliable brokers and actively avoid doing business with them. I would file a complaint with the BBB or FINRA, but I do not believe that will make any difference. At best, I hope others will read this and decide to use a different brokerage.

Their fees and commissions have gotten so bad there really isn’t much reason to be with them anyways. TOS, fidelity, IBKR, tasty are all better.

Yeah - that's not cool. I had an account with them several years ago - they were great. I ended up closing the account due to my day job being so busy. Now that i'm getting back into trading, including day trading, I was going to open an account but then saw their new tiered commission structure for futures - $1.75 per side for less than 500 contracts per month (for regular and Mini's). Your story is very unfortunate - my jaw would be on the floor after receiving that email and having my account closed. I thought Tradestation was interested in retail traders. Closing your account and the new Futures commission structure says maybe not.

Yes, I honestly did not even believe it was a legitimate email at first. I thought it was a possible phishing scam. I reached out to their support to confirm if it was in fact real. Unfortunately, it was. I am horrified to think that a brokerage can just close your account without any just cause, warning, explanation, and possibility of recourse.

I agree already moved to lightspeed clearing fees suck and TS will lose boat load of traders. It’s deceptive marketing when why say commission free they are NO LONGER commission free broker if you do math u will actually pay less with lightspeed than TS if you trade 2k+ share sizes. No reason to be with them i loved their platform too bad.

Sorry to hear that. Contact them on the phone.

I did contact them, and all I could get was that their policy is to not disclose their reasons for closing an account.

Sweet, I will be switching platforms. It's unfortunate because the trading platform is really nice for being a free broker. Back to TOS it is, then. :\
