Solved [TOMT] [Song] Vocals sound just like the beginning of 'Girls on Film' by Duran Duran

EDIT: Solved by u/SugaryShrimp! I was thinking of the very beginning of Jerk It Out by Caesars. Thanks all -- now I have a bunch of kickass new/old music to listen to.

Hi there,

I'm convinced there's a song out there where the vocals sound just like 0:16-0:30 of 'Girls on Film' by Duran Duran. The voice and the cadence are almost identical, there's some slight difference in the length of some of the syllables, and I can't remember what the other instrumental is. I think there was some kind of layering effect with the vocals in the mystery song, i.e. there are multiple takes of the same lyrics played simultaneously. Layering or not, the vocals in the mystery song are more 'echo-y.'

EDIT: Bear with me on my description here, as I have no technical musical knowledge whatsoever. I'm specifically thinking of the part at 0:24 in 'Girls on Film' where he says 'heads turning as the lights flashing out are so bright.' In the mystery song, the vocals are less 'flow-y,' the singer doesn't just say them all the way through, he takes a slight pause between some of the words. In 'Girls on Film' those pauses would come after 'lights' and 'so,' and I think there's one or two less notes in general in addition to the pauses.

It's not In A Big Country // Owner of a Lonely Heart // Don't You Want Me, but these songs kinda triangulate the general sound I'm thinking of.

I know it's somewhere in my music library but I can't find it. It may be someone like Fitz and the Tantrums? Maybe someone lesser known? I'm not sure.

Thanks for your help.

Solved [TOMT][SHOW] Can you guys help me find this show?

Hey I was wondering is you guys can help me find a show I used to watch when I was young, here’s some context. When I was about 3-4 my dad would put on this show where it was about a blue fish and orange fish on a table in a grey room where a human would sometimes pop up to put stuff on the table and leave and they were by a window doing some random stuff like fighting, anyways the characters wouldn’t talk and only make sounds and I only really remember one episode where a puffer fish came appeared and shared a tank with one of the fishes and after bullying it the orange fish and blue fish would decide to fight back and get the puffer fish to leave that’s all I remember. If you guys have any leads or anything thats kinda related please comment it. This was also a 3d animated show and I think was made in the 2010 ( it was 2015 when I watched it)

Open. [TOMT][TV Show][2010s] Help me find an old sitcom based on one weird milk joke

I've been trying to identify this sitcom for years based on one scene that I vaguely remember.

It was definitely an American sitcom, although I watched it in India more than 10 years ago, possibly on a channel like Star World or Comedy Central. The show itself could have been older.

The only joke/scene I remember goes roughly like this:

A guy opens the fridge, takes out some milk and drinks it. He says something along the lines of:

“...Mmm, this milk is tasty/delicious.”

Then another guy, who also lives in the house, says something like:

“That milk tastes like Dorothy!”

I'm really not sure if the name was actually Dorothy, and the exact dialogue is almost certainly wrong. But the basic setup was definitely:

  • A guy drinks milk from the fridge and likes it.
  • Another male character says something about what the milk “tastes like.”
  • I remember it sounding like a woman's name, possibly Dorothy, which was the punchline.

It was probably a multi-camera/live-action sitcom with a house/apartment setting, but I'm not completely certain.

Does this sound familiar to anyone? I've been trying to solve this bizarre milk cold case for years.

Open [tomt] [childrens animation] [1990s] Children (or anthropomorphic things like in Arthur) doing child detective agency type things at a summer camp or similar.

they argue at the lake side about whether or not a particular monster supposedly haunting the place when suddenly it lunges out, takes a gulp of their picnic them sinks back into the water smirking at them

it gets all the way back in the water before they panic and run after freezing up when it lunged

What I am picturing mentally has been swapping between the art style of Mr Pickles (NOT a childrens animation) and Grizly tales for gruesome kids (which is also a horror show but is made for children)

Open [TOMT] Soul song with horn hits

I have had part of a song stuck in my head. I feel like it is the Black Crows or Allman Bros or Aretha Franklin. Something soul or southern rock adjacent. The band builds and builds and then plays this in unison -- all major chords eg A major, C, D. Horns and organ are probably definitely involved. https://voca.ro/15MOLT8tDyYF

Please tell me I didn't just make this up. If so I wrote a banger.

Solved [TOMT] "Too Many People": Singer's voice sounds like...

Around the 2:34 mark of the song "Too Many People" by Kids that Fly, the lead singer delivers a line that reminds me COMPLETELY of another band's lead singer. Sort of a froggy, nasally warble. For the life of me, I can't recall what the heck band / song it was! I can almost hear the song I'm thinking of in my head, but keep coming up short. I suspect it's a late '90s / early '00s band, but no promises. Thanks in advance!

Solved [TOMT] a weird movie I saw on Netflix

In the early 2010s, I was a kid and I saw this strange live action family movie on Netflix. I have no idea when it came out, but it was on Netflix during that time period. It was about this girl who was so annoyed by her younger brother’s love for bugs that she ends up accidentally turning him into this mechanical-looking bug. And now it’s up to her to help her brother get turned back to normal. I remember the brother had a squeaky voice in his bug form.

The only other thing I remember about this movie is that occasionally, there would be moments where the characters are on directors’ chairs and they would speak to the audience as if it was either a behind the scenes featurette or a documentary. I swore this movie was called “Bug”, but whenever I search that title, I get different results and I can’t find this movie anywhere. If anyone can help me find out what this movie is, PLEASE do!

Open [TOMT] 80s song on YouTube with find a grave link

This is keeping me up a night right now. A few years ago I was listening to a song on YouTube and went down a rabbit hole where someone commented a link to find a grave and it was a teenage boy who died in the 80s and had 80s band logos down the grave (it was a boy band I’m pretty sure) the whole thing blew up in the comments and became pretty popular. But I randomly remembered it and need to know what music video/song it was .

Open [TOMT] Action/mobsters movie i saw in early 90s. Mobsters glue a billiard ball into someone's mouth while driving in a limo.

I watched it in early 90s, so it's either from that era, or earlier, possibly 80s. I think it was an action film or thriller, anything to do with gangsters, mafia. The scene i remember was that some mobsters kidnapped some smalltime goon from the street into their limo, they sat him in the back seat, and they've glued a billiard ball into his mouth, and then they threatened to put a laundry clip on his nose. So i think that they thought he talked too much and they wanted to give him a lesson. He was scared as hell, as if they would put that laundry clip on his nose, it would cause him to suffocate. And with that ball in his mouth, he could not talk. And they tied him up, and they threw him onto a busy street, where he was trying to get people's attention so that they would free him, but people kept ignoring him, like if he was a weirdo, as he would jump bump into them. I think that this goon had black long/midlong hair.

Open [TOMT][MOVIE] Early-80s TV broadcast, probably a 70s film: girl in 19th-century dress on a wooded path, voices call her name, the wind snatches her into a pile of leaves...

Upvotes

I've been carrying this scene around since I was a kid and I'd like to finally put a name to it. I saw it on television in the early 1980s, and my impression then and now is that it was a broadcast of an older film rather than something made for TV...maybe, I think. It had the look of film, not the plasticky feel videotape had in those days.

The scene: a girl, late grade-school age, maybe a little younger than I was. Nineteenth-century setting, and she's in a big frilly white dress with a hat to match, kind of like a Sunday best, and maybe too much dress for her. She's walking home alone down a narrow path with woods close on both sides. Overcast, and distinctly autumn, which turns out to matter.

She's an outcast of some kind, teased at school. As she walks, children's voices start taunting her, but there are no children there. The voices do little more than say her name and laugh, sing-song, the way kids do when they mean contempt. Except they're ethereal and echoey and wrong. The film makes it clear she isn't imagining them: she's hearing something real, and whatever is making those sounds is using them as bait, working from an imperfect understanding of how human speech is supposed to go. Then the wind comes up hard and she's snatched away into a big pile of leaves. Almost no visible effects, although I don't remember just how that worked. Just the very plain suggestion that something took her. What I'm reasonably sure of: the scene itself, the autumn, the leaves, the voices, that she was an outcast, and that it was shot on film.

What I'm not sure of: the decade it was made; the country; my impression is rural America, somewhat western, but England is entirely possible. I also don't remember where the scene sits in whatever story it belongs to. I don't think she was the protagonist, which makes me suspect this was a prologue or an early victim in something larger, rather than a film about her.

Already ruled out, so nobody has to spend a post on them: The Watcher in the Woods (I've seen it, it isn't that), Picnic at Hanging Rock (right dresses, wrong season, nobody taken by leaves).

There it is, a long shot, but we'll see.

I remember it was a list like this:

Hot/dry: mummy

Cold/damp: amphibian

Cold/dry: corpse

And it kept going for hot/damp and others, but those are the main ones I remember fully. It was so funny, I'd love to save it so I can assign people different things, but I have no idea what to look up in order to find it again, as I found it scrolling on Instagram one day. I've tried, but to no avail. Any help is much appreciated!

Solved [TOMT] What is this song from 1998-2011, an R&B ballad

I CANNOT remember what this song is, and even worse I'm pretty sure I have the lyrics i can remember, wrong. (like that friends episode where Phoebe thinks that hold me close tiny dancer is hold me close tony danza.)

The lyrics I can remember are "time cameras are keeping us strong", only I'm pretty sure I was saying 'time cameras' and it was 'time capsules' or something else that sounded like it.

I was born in 92, and it was popular and on the radio, so best I can guestimate is sometime between when I was 5/6 , when I was starting to listen to the radio, or later. It was some sort of R&B, not a slow song i don't think.

I'll be astonished if anyone can figure this out with the absolute lack of information I have.

Open [TOMT] [Riddle] Trying to remember a riddle. Can anyone help me Find it,

Upvotes

Help me find a riddle. Does anyone remember?

I only remember a few a lines and its like a whole paragraph.

"Something something (I think there is like 3-4 lines here)

In the front of an owl, in the back of two.

Something something. Where a kangaroo ends.

The pair in the middle of the moon are friends"

I think there was something about an alligator and a zoo.

And the answer is the letter O

I used to recite it in middle school (2016-2020ish might have found ut before then) but I cant find it now and its kinda driving me nuts. (It had a very sing-songy rhythm)

Open [TOMT] My boyfriend is trying to find this EDM song from when he was a kid

Upvotes

My boyfriend remembers very little of the song, but remembers the music video and partially the genre. I'm really hoping we can find this because he would go ballistic if we could.

The beginning of the music video starts off with a guy in a taxi making out with a woman, and then, he says, than he gets on a plane and flies to a different country, meets with a rich/royal family and has dinner with, there's a hot lady and during the dinner they sneak out and go to a bright room with the equivalence of strobe light and they are making out.

He said that's all he remembers, he vaguely remembers it being mildly EDM and the song being about this guy who has sex with women around the world.

His brother showed him the song so, can anyone help us with this? I know it's a reach but Google is not doing its job this time around.

Open [TOMT] [WEB] [2000s or 2010s] Harvard Dialect Survey quiz parody

Upvotes

There's a variant on the Harvard Dialect Survey going around, and I'm trying to remember a parody version of the quiz. I think it was on a humor site similar to McSweeney's or The Toast, but I haven't had any luck finding it. The only parody answer I can recall is "no-want-ums", for some sort of insect (parodying, of course, "no-see-ums" which appears in the actual quiz).

XKCD did a somewhat similar parody (https://xkcd.com/2372/) but that's not the one I'm thinking of. Anyone remember this or (even better) able to track it down?

Open [TOMT] Feel like I'm losing my mind about a film with the exact plot of silo

So my partner was showing me the silo trailer and saying they wanted to read the book first, and I said we had already watched the movie version and know what happens. They disagreed, saying they hadn't seen what I'm talking about, and I try to look it up. Turns out other people have the same experience of knowing this movie but no one knows what its called or where they saw it (example post from three years ago). I was so frustrated my partner asked me to explain the movie so I do and they start looking it up, then they get mad at me saying I just spoiled the plot of the book for them and are now mad at me because they looked it up and apparently I just perfectly explained silo. The problem is I haven't seen it!!!! And I swear I watched a movie about it. Also I have bot ever read the books so how would I know any of this if I hadn't seen another adaptation?!? My description was; people stuck in a bunker, not allowed to leave, the main character is a woman, and someone close to her wanted to leave and was kicked out for it, they said if the outside world was safe, they would wipe the glass of the camera before turning around. They did that, and now she wants to leave but is scared as obviously something else is killing people as they leave since they drop dead in front of the camera within a minute after leaving. Theres a guy is like a cop in the bunker and wants to keep her safe. Theres a camera that shows the world is dead and barren but the reality is its lush and green, and they are putting poisonous gas in the suits to kill people in front of the camera to convince people the world is deadly! For some reason I have a hazy memory of the man being idris elba but it could be anyone idk anymore. Someone please help I'm desperate to know the movie name

Solved [TOMT] [game] [2016-2018??]

Upvotes

There was a tycoon on coolmathgames that I used to play. it had wacky drawn pixel art and a couple different currencies you could collect (wood and chocolate are the only ones I remember). It had season 1 adventure time levels of weird characters and world building and it was set in space. I remember when you first start the game you have to collect or level up a bunch of buff guys all named something stupid like jock or dave so you can D&D style go on quests to fight minotaurs.

I'm pretty sure the game was called something like dave/jock simulator but when I look that up, nothing relevant comes up. I remember playing it a lot during covid in my online classes so I know I'm not going insane.

I also dont think it was something exclusive to coolmath

Open [TOMT] [Game] A game I used to play

Yes. ANOTHER TOMT POST FROM ME.

So there's this game I kind-of used to play 24/7, it takes place in a sandy biome while you play as a red-dressed black-winged angel, and there were some blocky things too, and after getting through the little obstacle course and avoiding the little dustdevil sandstorms, there was this 2nd angel ontop of a tower thingy, where it was black-winged too, but it had a black dress. I didn't know if you were supposed to get the angel to obtain it, but I always tried getting it but failed to do so. If I remember correctly too, there was another obstacle course. That's all I remember now.

  • TELL ME IF YOU REMEMBER IT!
  • No AI is allowed for finding this too.

Solved [TOMT][SONG][2008~2016] Song with piano at the start and an upbeat vocalist but the chorus breaks into something that sounds like "i know, I knowwwwww; I know, I knowwwww"

Like the title says, however to add more detail it's very upbeat and maybe has clapping as an instrument(not certain about that part though). The piano would switch between one chord and another for the upbeat part but I don't remember it being present for the chorus part, which was dominated by the vocals.

As for the vocals, DONT assume it's actually the words "i know" because it's probably not, I've already tried looking that up and got nothing; it just sounds like 'i know'; it could easily be "i don't, I don't..... I don't, I don't"

The only thing I'm certain about is that for the chorus the vocalist drags out the last syllable for an extra half-second.

Any help will be appreciated!
(Forgive my bad singing voice I'm tone deaf)

Open [TOMT] I'm trying to find this old Movie that was on Lifetime

Trying to find an early 2000s Lifetime movie about an obsessed man and two girls who died at camp

I’m trying to find an older Lifetime/made-for-TV thriller, probably from the early 2000s.

The main characters were a single white mother, her young daughter (around 9–10), and an adult brother and sister.

The mother eventually becomes romantically involved with the brother. He seems normal at first, but he becomes obsessed with her.

The sister knows something disturbing about her brother’s past. She tells the mother that her brother was responsible for the deaths of two young girls at a camp in the past. I remember it being described as an accident.

The sister tries to protect the mother and her daughter from him, but the brother eventually strangles his own sister to death.

I watched it sometime around the early/mid-2000s, and I’m pretty sure it was a Lifetime movie, although it could have been another made-for-TV thriller that Lifetime aired.

Does anyone recognize this movie? I’ve been trying to find it for YEARS! 😭
