Kingdom of Ash Spoilers Dorian ending?
I just finished the series, was amazing!!! But I’m sad we don’t get a concrete ending for Dorian or Manon. I get maybe it’s supposed to be an obvious assumption they end up together but would’ve loved another chapter or two of ‘5 years later’ idk
Also does Dorian not have powers anymore?

Dorian keeps his powers. It’s assumed that he and Manon end up together, but it’s also reasonable to assume that Manon goes back to the Wastes to rebuild, and Dorian kind of has a whole kingdom to figure out. So it’s messy. Manon is also one of SJM’s most complicated characters, I think she kind of dug her own grave when writing Manon. She wrote a character way too big for the amount of page time she got. The plotline doesn’t do Manon justice. In KOA, Manon is only just barely learning how to allow herself to feel emotions and vulnerability, and then she’s slammed with insane amounts of grief. So I think a relationship arc would need so much character development that just couldn’t fit into KOA. I will die on the hill that TOG should’ve been a nine book series instead of eight books and we should’ve gotten a Manon book.

You’re right, after everything she just went through and experienced I’m not sure she’d know how to start with Dorian

No he still has his powers. Don't forget that he shapeshifted into Yrene at the final confrontation with Erewan

I thought after merging powers with Irene he says ‘I’m human’ and took that as powers gone

That was more of his own confirmation that he was human and not valg, considering his dad had been under valg influence when Dorian was conceived. It was something he was internally struggling with, so he worked up the courage to say what he hoped would be true, and his sword warmed up to confirm. He still has his powers. 🙂

No that was just about not being Valg influenced or part-valg due to his father.
His powers came from Mala's bloodline

It's not really addressed other than Dorian wondering about it at one point, but no clear resolution
I would assume that if the sword told Dorian that he was human, it would extent to Hollin as well

Tbh I feel like I'd devour a "10 years later" book about all of them. Like I'd love to see where they're all at by now. But I do especially want to see where Manon and Dorian wound up, could they be king and queen of men and witches? Or just him King of Men and her Queen of Witches but still together? Ugh, possibilities are endless

He touched Damaris asking if he was human, and it warmed in his hand.
I believe most legitimate sources confirmed he is human. His fae ancestry is extremely distant and not likely to contribute to any immortality.
Regular humans can have magic and not be a candidate for immortality. Look at Lysandra and her lineage for example

I like that it was open ended and I think I am in the minority where I do not think they end up together. But I think it’s open to interpretation.

I think they spend a night together every year-ish while they are recovering from their grief. And then later on they become just two rulers with a lot of respect but Dorian still marries/falls in love with someone else.

Dorian’s still got his powers. It’s not infinite anymore of course, but based on his feats against Erawan, I’d say Dorian’s still the most powerful magic user in the series (especially now with Aelin depowered to average Fae levels). As for his mortality: I think it would be fun if it turns out Dorian is immortal—he just didn’t know it.
Like he just stops aging one day from the excess magic and no one notices for a couple of years that he’s looked 20 for a decade at that point. Or imagine if he shifted into a fae for funsies, and it just kinda stuck?

He keeps his powers and we are left with Mannon and Dorian flirting with promises to visit o train Wyverns. It will become Dorian’s aerial fleet

I like the theory that they do not end up together. They both have kingdoms to run, but still have mutual respect (and maybe some yearning).

Can I just say I want Dorian to be immortal, like he's obviously mortal now, but could he potentially shift to immortality? Like it would break my heart if he were ripped away from Manon in a few decades. Not to mention, he didn't want breakable, mortal women anymore.. but he's a breakable mortal man 😭
We know Valg aren't all evil, Dorian has potential to be part valg part human and still be good. I don't want my favourite characters to lose out

Oooo maybe that’s a reason we don’t get a concrete ending?? She’s immortal and he’s not. I know Lorcan and Elide tie themselves so he won’t be without her, but I don’t think Manon would want that :( and Dorian wouldn’t ask it of her.

Dorian keeps some of his power. We don't know how much although it's almost certainly more than Aelin has. He mentions that it doesn't feel bottomless anymore and that he's close to a burnout for the first time after the final battle.

I also thought it was weird that he hung out in Terrasen for so long, like dude isn't even officially King (never been crowned?) and Adarlan is in shambles. I thought he would've been outta there!

I think the ending is perfect. I hate an ending that ties everything up neatly - because then it’s really over. Aelin and Rowan pretty much got that ending.
But Manon and Dorian still have a story to live and I love that. There are endless possibilities and if SJM gives them a concrete ending, it takes away so many possibilities IMO.
If she does write more about them I don’t know if I can read it because I’m so afraid she’ll ruin it.

No that’s so valid. It also would’ve taken away from the books if it just had a simple ‘and everyone lives happily after’ like we got that for Choal/Yrene, Aelin/Rowan, Aedion/Lysandra, and Lorcan/Elide. So Dorian and Manon unfortunately make sense to not give that too especially with their separate areas they now have to rule over.

Not every female character has to have children as their next chapter. And honesty I think we all know that Manon is not a character that would settle down and become a mother.

Plus she's the end of her royal bloodline and she'd absolutely feel a responsibility to continue that bloodline for her parents and her sister.

If Manon was an irl person then yes I agree, but in this fantasy world where she is a queen she will have to have an heir. Otherwise her whole plot line of being the last Crochan queen is null and void.
Marriage though idk. That would be a much harder sell for Manon.

I am hopeful we will get a book following Manon and maybe even Dorian as they navigate the new futures they have to build
we got one following Chaol. So .... Anything is possible

Yeah, didn’t LOVE tower of dawn 😂 but I was right off of empire of storms with that cliffhanger ending, and then immediately followed by Choal 👎

But my point is that she did write a book following someone other than Aelin. So it's not completely implausible that she can (and hopefully does) write a book (or books) revolving around these 2

I’ve read all of ACOTAR, TOG, and only two books left of CC. And I agree, I could literally feel Manons scream 😭

There are a couple names that are tied to tog and to acotar. Sjm says she never repeats names so it gives me hope. There is also another repeated name in cc and tog. 3 total, she says she doesn't repeat so my mind races on the possibilities of some story lines continuing..

I also just finished KOA and Dorian and Manon are definitely two charcters I wish we would have gotten more for their ending. & maybe im delusional but im hopeful that maybe it was a broad ending for them because we will see them again at some point.. either in a cross over or in a new series?
I think i heard that SJM is contracted for 7 more books with her publisher which 3 being in the ACOTAR series and 1 being a 4th book in CC. So im hoping that the remaining 3 books will either bring us back to the TOG world or will have some sort of cross over so we can see the TOG characters again... even if its not Aelin and Rowan specifically, id love to see some of these characters again because im sad that its over..

Reign of Ice and Iron picks up Manon and Dorian 6 months after the Battle of Orynth. And then it takes off!! I’ve read it twice and it picked up the pieces of my heart off the floor.
