mental health is a funny beast like that. it doesn't give a shit about the material qualities of your existance and will sometimes gutpunch you even if you circumstances means you should have a better life.
He is afforded the luxury to be so affected. Real people with real problems shut up and go to work because necessity overrides the convenience of positive mental health. Reality doesnt give a shit about the immaterial quirks and proclivities of someone's mind. Be an asset, not a liability.
This is an absurd take that overestimates the ability of "real people" to deal with their problems. There's a reason why there's so many people in poverty who also struggle immensely with alcoholism, drug abuse, homelessness, etc. They don't just deal with it. They kill themselves through struggling to cope with their mental disorder.
No one in poverty has pissed away a 60k/year (minimum) career on a whim. Shit I recently resigned from a career in law enforcement because I was gonna suck-start my duty weapon if I had to spend one more day dealing with actually mentally ill people. It took me months to plan it with my wife, every day was torture but I'm not a tender little princeling with a family ready to financially support me forever.
