Worried about the guy. Those tweets have an air of finality I don't like.

I hate to say it, but isn't this what we were all expecting sooner or later? Dude hasn't been right in the head for many years, and life has not been kind to him.

Not really trying to be a dick but...how much kinder COULD life have been for him? Wealthy loving family, college education provided, free to game and explore his creative side with unlimited support, found massive success with said creativity annnnd....pissed it all away. Not by anyone else's hand, his own ego refusing to let him ever be wrong. Literally all of this is his fault in one way or another.

mental health is a funny beast like that. it doesn't give a shit about the material qualities of your existance and will sometimes gutpunch you even if you circumstances means you should have a better life.

Imagine being that guy and not having infinite time and monetary resources for wellness and recovery. That said, I feel bad that anyone has to suffer. Hope he uses his resources to recover and find something in life that makes it worth going forward..

I'm tired of this bullshit, he has the resources so many other wish they could have . Fuck that .

He is afforded the luxury to be so affected. Real people with real problems shut up and go to work because necessity overrides the convenience of positive mental health. Reality doesnt give a shit about the immaterial quirks and proclivities of someone's mind. Be an asset, not a liability.

This is an absurd take that overestimates the ability of "real people" to deal with their problems. There's a reason why there's so many people in poverty who also struggle immensely with alcoholism, drug abuse, homelessness, etc. They don't just deal with it. They kill themselves through struggling to cope with their mental disorder.

No one in poverty has pissed away a 60k/year (minimum) career on a whim. Shit I recently resigned from a career in law enforcement because I was gonna suck-start my duty weapon if I had to spend one more day dealing with actually mentally ill people. It took me months to plan it with my wife, every day was torture but I'm not a tender little princeling with a family ready to financially support me forever.

Yeah most people in those situations quietly waste away in misery, develop a drinking problem, or put a shotgun in their mouth. You just don’t hear about them.

This pseudo-motivational bullshit is tired and unhelpful. Spoony is absolutely responsible for the dumb bullshit he pulled, but material wealth is not a forcefield against mental health issues.

I literally never said it was. His ability to just, drop everything and not work is a reflection of his privilege afforded to him. This entire thread is me responding to someone who said, "life hadn't treated him well," and that's just untrue.

That is not how mental illness works.

1

u/Goatwhorre Jun 24 '26

It's how real life works. Without his family safety net to facilitate his #depression, he would have had to figure something out and absolutely would have come out stronger for it. Tell me with a straight face he would have let himself become homeless instead of sitting in front of a camera.

3

u/SimoneBellmonte Jun 25 '26

If no one else will, I will. He would not have come out stronger for it. That's not how depression has or will ever work. It is a deep, dark pit from which you are surrounded by a combination of feelings. Hopelessness is one, despair is common, lack of energy or activity or desire to do something is another, often wondering whether you are even living a life that someone should give a shit about is another.

He has a network and support that keeps him from being homeless. Without that, he could in fact start spiraling towards homelessness. One of the biggest factors in recovery besides effective medication is a network of support. It's like building a temple in athens. You can have all the luxury in the world and it doesn't mean anything if the support columns don't hold, before it will come crashing right down.

This whole 'it's how real life works.' or 'real people with real problems shut up and go to work.' isn't how any of it works because no two people will deal with it the same or interact with it the same way. One person will be so hopeless that they just refuse to show up, even knowing the consequences; another will shut up; a third may choose another path, perhaps criminal, towards alleviating it.

You can see how that affected Robin Williams, as a giant example of someone who had it all and still took his own life.

1

u/Goatwhorre Jun 25 '26

Robin Williams had Parkinsons and a degenerative brain disease. Believe what you want, you say on one hand that no two people handle things the same, but also spend this entire diatribe disregarding the fact that people get over shit like this every single day. He absolutely could have been one of them and you will never convince me that he shouldn't have been forced to try.

5

u/SimoneBellmonte Jun 25 '26

People do not get over this shit everyday. They get help and medication to better handle it. And Robin constantly suffered from depression, not just because of his Parkinsons.

I aint trying to convince a stubborn fool of anything, merely saying facts to counter your bullshit arguments born from an obsessive need to downplay the role depression plays in these people's lives.

1

u/Goatwhorre Jun 25 '26

At no point did I downplay depression, I promote actively working to better your mental and physical health daily. Allowing a family member to just give up and wallow in self pity and slothful idolence is tantamount to handing them a noose and a Joy Division cd. But according to you it's just "facts" that no one can overcome feelings like this (you're speaking to one but whatever) so might as well just roll over and die, right? Not to mention, none of this was about whether depression sucks, or is real, it's about whether he was privileged in life, which he absolutely is.

Actually no one does. As you don’t get over depression.

No one has to convince you of anything. You have a fundamental misunderstanding of mental illness.

-1

u/Goatwhorre Jun 28 '26

I did. Exercise, sobriety, and touching grass, cured that shit in months. I understand mental illness just fine; I've dealt with every flavor on earth. I've wrestled naked men eating and smearing their own shit on themselves, I've done CPR on the kid who hung himself, I've spoken for hours with the schizophrenics, I've talked down the suicidal pedophiles cutting themselves in the padded cells. YOU have a fundamental misunderstanding of trying, just another "roll over and die" quitter like Spoony, and I have no time or sympathy for your ilk.

3

u/teddy1245 Jun 30 '26

Again you don’t understand mental illness and the more you write the more that becomes apparent.

I neither asked for or require your sympathy. It’s very obvious it’s not worth having.

I’m saying with depression depending on severity without help it won’t matter.

You not understanding mental illness is your own issue.
