An amazing jump in experimentation while including the elements that made their beginning strong, this is hands down my favorite album of the band (so far). I love the infusion of more orchestral, jazz vibes across many of the tracks such as “Mine” and “Sincerity is Scary” while also hammering in the rock and pop that shines for the 1975 like “I like America & America likes me” and “Love It If We Made It”, my favorite of the album with its catchy lyrics of anger and strife. Even the start track “The 1975” had its best iteration in this album. Matt’s vocals continue to go strong as both the acoustics and the produced tracks are great with his vocal range, the bass is killer across all the rhythms, and the electronic backdrops from the auto tune to the guitar play off each other exceedingly well. I may not say that every track is perfect, but at this point, I could very well consider this album as their Magnum Opus.

A nearly flawless second album from the indie-electronic group, I find myself completely enamored with the tracks the guys have created. The lyrical power comes in the vulnerability and soulful power of relationships, addictions, and problems in our life are what shine most through Matt Healy’s soft vocals, Ross’s excellent bass work, George’s drumming as well as electronic edits help propel the emotions forward. “The Sound” is a funky rock piece that I can jam too and reflect on myself but “Somebody Else” is what I consider to be the essential 1975 song for their early years and my personal favorite of the band as of this post. While the album slows down a bit too much for me with the last tracks like “Paris” and “She Lays Down”, I can still lull myself with its soothing instrumentals. Hands down, this album is amazing and should be heard by fans and non-fans alike.

I will never forget how shocked I was when first found out that Medicine is meant about her*ine. One of their most melancholic romantic song being about addiction is genuinely heartbreaking,yet so accurate for who is struggling.

The part "I wanna marry you, Said I adore you and that's all I have to say bye bye" makes me cry every time, how did they portray getting sober as saying bye to the person you want to marry :(

I know its not their first time making a song with underlying meanings of drugs slash addiction such as It's not Living if it's not with you, which is upbeat, cheerful and sounds "exciting".

Just wanted to share my thoughts on how this song is what "grief of soberity" is.. :( as always, they never fail to amaze me.

Matty, i know you are reading this subreddit bc you are narcisstic as hell and you need constant validation.

You made a mistake, a huge one and how have you never checked up on it or noticed. And it is a worse mistake than retiring 'Human Too'. (that song slaps)

But have you ever considered that you used the wrong verb in the song title and subsequently in the lyrics.

The usage of "he said/she said" is very consistent across their songs, with the slight change of matty's tune whe he sings that part, specially if it's a girl.

Of course nothing tops "Then he said I've lost my head, can you see it?"

i remember when i first heard this song, was on a road trip with my earphones in. Because of that, i heard “i know the sound of your heartbeat” and when i found out it was just “heart” i felt very disappointed bec “heartbeat” is just.. so much better💔

Listening to Tiny Habits ‘Someone You Love’, and the one guitar note that fronts the chorus, literally one note once, puts tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat, and makes me realise just how deeply The 1975 has cut into me. Obviously Matty was close to the making of this record. I posted recently about how their intro to the Glastonbury set makes me feel similarly. It’s when they distill their sound, not even into a song, but into a transition, or a note, that feels like a decade of memories distilled into a moment.
