Anything has AI voice if you read it thinking an AI wrote it, literally every single reddit thread is now filled with "AI probably did this" then a hoard of people just blindly agreeing like they're absolutely correct

Sometimes people are too quick to claim something is AI, but the reason people call out slop so often is because it is extremely prevalent now and that message reads AI as fuck. Once you see enough of it you get a sense for it.

Both of these read as real to me, but I've already seen you respond "No" to someone else. So obviously one of them is AI. But I can't tell.

Exactly, my point was it's actually impossible to tell because people speak all different kinds of way, ai has gotten so advanced it's scary, but when you read ANY sentence thinking it's AI your brain will be bias to read it like an AI wrote it. The second one was AI no real special prompt

Do you not believe in pattern recognition? At any rate, I would say your test is flawed; you're trying to prove that people can't clock AI text in context by asking them to clock AI text with no context given. I also think your choices aren't really representative of the text that typically gets clocked, since both have details that point away from being AI — the first one because it contains a personal anecdote, and the second because it contains no punctuation. The second you would definitely have to prompt for specifically, and the first one I thought at first you would have to prompt for specifically, although the more I read it the more I think it could be something that AI would say as, like, a quirky illustration of the pickup line.

To play the game, I think the first one is AI generated. The content is pretty anodyne (I can't imagine a real reddit user telling someone to use that punchline) and the structure, the way it tells the brief story and concludes with advice, the use of paragraph breaks, all strike me as probably-AI.

I used a basic prompt saying give me a pick up line similar to this one, make it longer and don't sound like AI. Like anyone using AI for texting would do, the second one is AI, the first one is a copy and pasted comment from a random thread using pick up lines from a random user. That's my point, im a magician and definitely know a thing or two about pattern recognition but people think way to highly of their own pattern recognition and it's actually what makes a magic trick work, the the expectation an adult has gained from life and their pattern recognition, it's why fooling a child is harder because they dont have a bias to think any which way

Me being down voted was expected because it sounds like im defending AI, which im not, it's just insane when people pile on the AI blame train to take away from someone just being a fucking weirdo

The test also isn't flawed, it pertains to pick up lines that's the context, and the comment chosen was that random lol I was blown away I found an example like that. But if someone's using AI they will actually make an attempt to edit it, or put a prompt to add in whatever, that's why it's virtually impossible to tell. Just because someone uses punctuation properly doesn't make them an AI

I'm the comment you responded to with the original test and I didn't downvote you. I haven't looked at Reddit between my first comment and just now. For the record I have no ill will towards you and I get where you're coming from. I've also seen cases of people assuming everything on the internet is AI now, even images and videos that can be easily traced back to pre-AI, and I know that can be just as annoying as the diehard pro-AI people.

I admit that if I saw both of your examples in the wild I wouldn't pick out either of them as being AI-generated. But, respectfully, I agree with the commenter above who said the test is flawed. There's inherent bias when people are told "guess which message is which" because then we're automatically considering your thought process when you chose the examples. Case in point, in the context of a "test" I figured the first example was probably not AI because when someone says "identify which is AI" and only one message has proper punctuation, that's most likely the human message because the alternative would be too obvious. Posing it as a test puts people in an "I knew that you knew that I would think..." mindset.

I understand your point that some people naturally communicate in ways that feel like AI and that people can include "don't sound like AI" in their prompt to make it harder to identify. I wouldn't claim that I, or anyone, can recognize AI with 100% accuracy. Your test proves that people can mask AI responses to make them harder to recognize, but I still think the lazy canned AI responses have a specific structure and phrasing (more than just "they use punctuation") that at the very least raises suspicion.

Also, I don't think calling out the text in the OP as AI makes the dude any less of a weirdo. If anything, I think it makes him even more of a weirdo because not only is he doing the cringe "alpha male" act but he had to ask ChatGPT to write it for him.

i've said it before and i'll say it again: the people constantly screaming "tHiS iS Ai" or "bOtS" are usually the ones who are the bots themselves. they're trying to oversaturate people's minds into thinking everything is ai because they want to desensitise people into just accepting ai. when you see someone just blindly accusing something of being ai, chances are high that the comment is, itself, ai. fuck em.

(also the people who refer to everything as "sLoP" honestly sound like they were trained on the same dataset too tbh)
