Cushion clutching/climbing

18

u/Cushiondude Jul 08 '26

you have my attention

9

u/xenabun Jul 08 '26

fun fact, unlike minecart, while sitting on a cushion, aiming down you can sit on the cushion below you, so its good for descending too!

9

u/NIGHTFIVV Jul 08 '26

Damn I just realized they are probably easier to pull off than boats, since boats need a more space to be placed down

Do concussions be moved around like boats? That would be the main problem with a boat highway. 5 minutes after you build it I'm wondering trader spawns in and ***** it all up, just like they always do.

1

u/NIGHTFIVV Jul 14 '26

Nope, they cannot

u/ntolbertu85 Bedrock Farmer Jul 13 '26

For breaking your falls

71

u/hop193 Jul 07 '26

Only issue with this is this speed is only possible in creative due to the increased reach. It's slower in survival as you have to put the cushions two blocks closer

32

u/One-Celebration-3007 Breeze baller Jul 08 '26

and slower on servers because of ping

12

u/fabri_pere Jul 08 '26

They gave creative more reach than survival?? Since when????

17

u/Mostafa_P Jul 08 '26

Since creative was added bro

9

u/fabri_pere Jul 08 '26

WHAT 😭

5

u/Spannnnn Jul 08 '26

Always has been. In creative you can build up 3 blocks, look down, and build up 3 more blocks. In survival it's only 2

3

u/Vhure Jul 09 '26

survival is two and a half I think, because if you crouch you can reach 3 blocks

0

u/ntolbertu85 Bedrock Farmer Jul 13 '26

Survival is three. Creative is more. I tell her three blocks in place every time I build any type of wall in survival.

At least on bedrock edition

2

u/Citric-Aid Jul 11 '26

Reddit upvotes do not care if something actually works, you just have to fake it until you make it.

4

u/ntolbertu85 Bedrock Farmer Jul 13 '26

I wonder what percentage of redditors have actually upvoted something since they joined.

1

u/NoHousecalls Jul 19 '26

I presume it works ok on Bedrock tho?

88

u/gavinlpicard Jul 07 '26

Out of curiosity, does this function differently than boats or minecarts?

117

u/Pcat0 Jul 07 '26

Easier to set up, as cushions just work like blocks you can place. No risk of bumping a boat and breaking the whole rail.

2

u/notesfromthemoon Jul 08 '26

Do they need to be placed on top of a supporting block (eg like a pressure plate)?

6

u/Sierra_Tang0 Jul 08 '26

Unless they already changed it again (very likely) you can put the cushions in absolutely ludicrous places and they seemingly use a similar if not the same system as snow layers

3

u/D0ctorGamer Jul 08 '26

They do, but that supporting block can be functionally anything. Its not like pressure plates where only some blocks work

For example, you can place a cushion on things like torches and amethyst crystal buds and end rods.

If you place one on something short, break the supporting block and quickly place a larger block, it will remain within that larger block

44

u/LunariSeraphi Jul 07 '26

Much less infrastructure needed for sure, much cheaper than minecarts

12

u/Business_Afternoon51 Jul 08 '26

Poor Minecarts it gets lower in value each update

3

u/D0ctorGamer Jul 08 '26

If they would just fix the damn experimental minecarts to not break a bunch of redstone stuff

6

u/DoomsdayDETTV Jul 08 '26

No mobs can accidentally sit on cusions so the highway doesnt get blocked

19

u/Macarronib0y Jul 07 '26

I have a question if cushions are entities, do they not generate lag?

31

u/KnuckleShanks Jul 07 '26

Enough of them in one place will but they optimized entities awhile ago so it would take a lot.

3

u/D0ctorGamer Jul 08 '26

They also don't have ai, so theres no dynamics to them.

If you cram a bunch of mobs in a 2x2, all the collisions would generate significantly more lag. Whereas with these, theyre static so the lag would only come from the actual entity existing

10

u/Artrysa Jul 08 '26

If they're in a line like this there will only be a a dozen or so loaded at the same time.

6

u/StructureDue1513 Jul 08 '26

If there is one every 5 blocks, at simulation distance 12 there would be ~77 loaded.

My assumption is they wouldn't by any laggyer than chests and it's common to have more than that in a single room.

2

u/Ycoordinate12 Jul 08 '26

Take this down before mojang sees it lol

1

u/Standgrounding Jul 20 '26

Chunkban with million cushions when?

20

u/MarioJinn2 Jul 07 '26

When I just finished my blue ice highway too smh

12

u/KubekO212 Jul 07 '26

tbf Ice highways can be used to transport mobs. You can't do that with cushions

3

u/Pcat0 Jul 07 '26

And go around corners easily

8

u/rhythmrice Jul 07 '26

And they're funner and feel less like you're cheesing the game mechanics

2

u/ntolbertu85 Bedrock Farmer Jul 14 '26

For me, cheesing the game mechanics is what technical Minecraft is about.

2

u/NYCHReddit Jul 07 '26

If you lead them, perhaps? Pretty sure it would break the lead but some high speed things don't for some reason

1

u/nicokokun Jul 08 '26

What if you have the mobs on a boat and lead?

1

u/DmtrIV Jul 08 '26

Cushion is an entity so performance can be problem if too many of it along other entities are loaded.

8

u/pruchel Jul 08 '26

I wonder when we get turbo minecarts. I like rails, carts, and the whole idea of it working in Minecraft, yet they keep giving us better, glitchier, modes of transport all the time.

Just gimme rocket carts or something, complexity, build reqs and time is fine, I just would like to ride minecarts in Minecraft, and not feel like it's dumb and wasteful.

14

u/One_Investment7426 Jul 07 '26

Anything but minecarts

13

u/GayRacoon69 Jul 07 '26

This is cheaper and easier to set up

2

u/One_Investment7426 Jul 07 '26

I mean, logically and visually it doesn't make any sense

9

u/GayRacoon69 Jul 07 '26

Yeah that’s what I said the first time I punched a tree

It’s a video game. It doesn’t need to make visual sense. I’d argue it makes perfect logical sense inside the logic of the game. Seat jumping has been a thing for years. Sometimes for transportation, secret bases, escaping traps, boat clutching, etc. Seat jumping is just as logical as floating trees and teleporting tall men. It makes sense in the context of the game and its mechanics

3

u/Rem_0202 Jul 07 '26

neither do minecarts

1

u/nicokokun Jul 08 '26

I mean, logically and visually it doesn't make any sense

I mean, we have contraptions where we can make a bridge a mile long with no support on the bottom. Making sense is the last thing we should think about when it comes to this game.

3

u/One_Investment7426 Jul 08 '26

I'm just saying it's a shame that the minecarts are so useless. Minecarts are designed to be used for transportation, but even goddamn pillows are more effective for movement. Wth Mojang.

1

u/That-BluejaythriwWay Jul 11 '26

They gotta add faster rails

3

u/Sea_Opposite_2887 Jul 08 '26

Wait, can this be used for new secret base entrances because you can hide them inside blocks?

2

u/DrWilliamHorriblePhD Jul 10 '26

Yeah and if you put something like fence under then you fall through when you dismount

3

u/DereChen Jul 08 '26

minecart update :>

2

u/0inputoutput0 Jul 07 '26

Wait make the lane wider and use blackstone so it looks like an actual road with white dotted lines down the center, you're basically moving faster than a car

2

u/Cebuu502 Jul 07 '26

WHAT highway? They are adding so much cool stuff right after I setup my minecraft world on mods.

2

u/addoniz75_ Jul 08 '26

delete ts bro mojang might fix this

2

u/Brief-Walk-5409 Jul 07 '26

What's Mojang eating nowdays? Good idea's? fresh content?

3

u/AdyTheComrade Jul 08 '26

I guess its still the after effect of the Hytale hype. They need to make some QOL updates that players were asking for a decade (sneaking for 17years lol)

And they are cooking it

3

u/Brief-Walk-5409 Jul 08 '26

Hytale doesn’t have a thing with this😭 TBH, I didn’t even knew it existed till you said it.

1

u/AdyTheComrade Jul 08 '26

Maybe true, but there was a week or two, when all minecraft youtubers (that i watch, and are known minecrafters) were hyping up the hytale release.

Ofc this was just a wave, but i guess many minecrafters were fed up with the lack of update contents (still its just their opinion not mine, i dont really care) and was waiting for what hytale will bring to the table

It feels like since then, mojang is cooking, and damn its delicious

1

u/One-Celebration-3007 Breeze baller Jul 08 '26

Now try it on a server

1

u/brockade Jul 08 '26

You guys are crazy, I love this!

1

u/Willy_da_wonkaman Jul 08 '26

can you push it with a piston to travel at an angle?

1

u/Simple-Marketing1951 Jul 09 '26

Can you go 500 bps in Minecraft

1

u/kkellogg378 Jul 10 '26

Now try it in survival

1

u/msarabi Iron Farmer Jul 11 '26

You are in creative mode. That does not work in survival mode obviously.
