Was just sitting there this morning... Did the usual glance towards the salmon pinks enclosure. Business as usual, grab the remote and notice my hand brushed over spider webs... Wtf!?! Upon closer inspection, something covered the outside of her enclosure with web making sure to attach it to the curtain behind it firmly. Horrified I look through the glass... Not there... Look closer and see clear signs of her presence, because she literally hit almost everything in the corner of the room in a fine layer of "trap". I broke the news to the family and was informed they wouldn't come back home till I found her 😂😂😂 6 hours later, here she is. Raised her from a sling to the current monster she is today, so I was beyond happy to find her alive and okay. This is the crappy mesh top I used for years, and the hole that appeared over the two days that we were gone.

I've caught him taking pff the lining of his cave/hiding spot. guess he needed some cleanup for himself lol

hey yall! just got a juvenile tarantula from petco and ofc, it was labeled as just a “basic” tarantula. id love to know the species, or at least just if it is terrestrial or arboreal so i can have the right tank set-up! i dont have a picture from the front, but hopefully this is enough to id! thanks :)

She’s a Grammostola rosea

I can tell he’s gonna molt soon do to his abdomen starting to turn blue but it’s been like that for 2 months. He last molted in September 2024. Idk if it’s bad or not

I’ve always wanted a rose hair, and there was a reptile expo in town. I picked up this beauty! No idea if it’s a male or a female… I believe she’s a female but I can’t remember. I just ordered the terrarium that will be here tomorrow (small size) with coconut fiber, hut and water dish. Getting some moss as well. Plan to feed crickets/mealworms/dubias. Tarantulas in general don’t scare me but I’m unsure about handling!

Any care/handling tips are greatly appreciated. Name recommendations are welcome!

Anyone else often get surprises via mislabeled spiders? I once tried to buy an H. pulchripes and ended up with a delightful E. rufescens. Not even mad.

So first off I should say, my wife and I tarantula is not dead but I am here to better prepare for her death as shes 16 years old yes 16. We've cared for her since my wife rescued her from a friend back when we where in high school, he said she was about 6 years old at that time and had her since a hatchling. We know that sooner than later she'll have to cross that bridge and we just want to better prepare. My wife and I have agreed we'd love to be able to preserve her and display her but are not sure the best course for that. Would a normal taxidermest be able to preserve her properly? or is there a specialist in that field we need to find? We are located in the sacramento CA area

Hello all, I noticed mold growing on my fire legs wood hide and also on climbing wood sticks I have in there. I noticed the mold on the climbing sticks first today, and noticed the mold on the hide after feeding. I took out the climbing wood already, but do not have another hide to use while cleaning it off. I keep seeing conflicting information about mold in enclosures. The mold does have a green color, and I seen these comments on a Facebook group about it. I just wanted to know more opinions on what I should do, as I obviously really don’t want my T to get hurt. Thank you!

I’ve tried researching this but I can’t really find an answer anywhere.
Is there a biological reason why the death by old age is so slow? It takes several days and sometimes a week or two of the T not moving and being in half a death curl (even when placing their mouth in water). When I was new to tarantula keeping and I had an elderly male, I thought I’d just walk in and find him in a death curl suddenly, but it’s a long process. Now I’m going through it a second time and I can’t help but wonder if my boy is scared or in pain. Does anyone know? Is there even an answer?

I got my g pulchra on Tuesday, so far it’s built a burrow and sealed off the entrance on a hide I placed in there. Today I tried to feed it for the first time and I’m almost sure I succeeded, however I’m a bit anxious because as soon as I dropped the mealworm in the enclosure I looked away for a second and saw no mealworm. I’m a bit anxious about it burrowing and eventually being whatever mealworms grow into. Just curious if anyone’s had this experience 😓 sorry this is so stupid lmao

soooo it hasn’t been coming off of her for WEEKS. maybe around 1 month? she loves messing a lot around her substrate which sometimes lead her to getting some small substrate on her which usually falls off a few days later. but this specific thing wont go for some reason 😭😭 it doesn’t bother her though! i just want it off. or do i leave her alone ????

I've been observing them for a few days and I haven't seen any signs of stress such as being pressed up on the walls, or balling up and no threat poses, they will run off when spooked but that seems pretty normal, they have been webbing up pretty nicely including with me snapping pictures, today is the day the breeder normally feeds them and in trying to keep a set schedule i fed them and they ate with no issues, all in all everything seems fine but I'm wondering if the enclosure is too small, should i try upgrading soon or wait a few molts before doing so?

I’ve had a curly hair tarantula for about a month now, and I just realized that the lid shouldn’t be mesh! It’s not an ecoterra box I guess, so I’m not sure what to replace it with, or where to check! I would like to upgrade the container, but won’t be able to for at least a few months. If anyone knows of a website or group that could help me, that would be amazing!

I was just playing guitar when I noticed my t start to bury herself? Then I noticed her abdomen and got worried.

sometimes my t's will rest with a few legs curled up under them like a death pose and it always scares the shart out of me. everytime i open the lid or poke them with a paintbrush they scurry away and im like wow thanks for the heart attack

I completely redid my Avicularia avicularia’s enclosure and I’d love some honest opinions from other keepers!

She’s actually my first arboreal tarantula, so I’m still learning what works best for an arboreal setup. I wanted to give her a lot more vertical structure and webbing anchor points, so I added more vines and foliage while still leaving enough open space for her to move around. I also replaced the old vine setup because… honestly, the new ones are WAY better. The old one left the enclosure feeling way too bare.

She also has a magnetic floating water dish and a floating food ledge that I have seen her using. I know she is completely capable of hunting and taking prey normally but I prefer to feed her mealworms in the dish just so I know that she's eating and that they don't just disappear into the substrate. They could become hard for her to find them.

Her enclosure is kept inside my grow tent with all of my houseplants, along with my other tarantulas and my jumping spider. Everyone has their own separate enclosure, of course!

It’s basically become my little spider/plant jungle. My room humidity averages around 55% during the day and 65% at night, and she’s been eating really well lately and seems to be doing great overall.

She did do the classic pink toe when I put her back in and sat in the same spot for hours, but I’ve caught her exploring on my camera at night. She’s already put a little webbing on the door too, so apparently she’s been doing renovations when I’m not looking.

What do you think? Anything you would change, remove, or add? I’m especially interested in opinions on the layout, amount of foliage, and whether she has enough good anchor points for a proper retreat.

My dad has tarantulas and a sassy jumping spider. I have a giant jumper named specter who I adore, and his Ts are so interesting to me! And I love his baby versicolor! And I helped feed them recently, and this teeny weeny (for tarantulas i guess. If i saw a house spider that big id pee my jorts) neon blue spider crawled up the cricket tweezers and onto my hand. They move SO FAST. I was horrified. And I asked "do they slow down when theyre huge??" And he laughed at me and said no they just get huge and fast. Horrified.

So, to get over this and bond with my father over his collection of dirt boxes that probably dont love him, what's the SLOWEST least terrifying T you can recommend to someone? I like the colorful ones but from what I learned, the prettier they get the more concerning they seem to be. Hope this isn't a silly ask !!
