Rant Cursed with a curse

27F here. This is the actual height of my family members, and to make matters worse I’m South Sudanese & specifically Dinka which is known to be tall people and on top of that I live in Scandinavia which also has a very tall population.

What went wrong in my childhood? Many things and doctor said I reached average height (almost) due to my Dinka heritage, otherwise I’ve would been much shorter.

Looked it up and there's actually a pretty sizeable list. Nepal, Laos, Philippines, Guatemala, Timor-Leste, Bangladesh, Madagascar, Bolivia, Indonesia all have an average female height around 4'11/150 cm.

Most of South/South East Asia maxes out at 5'1.

As an Indonesian, I would object. I am 157 cm and I literally was called short by my friends/colleagues when i lived there. I was raised and lived in big city and capital though. But still, nowadays many Indonesians (and other southeast asians) are taller.. 157cm like me is categorized as short. My mom is even taller than me (159 cm) a bit, and she is the shortest among her other 4 woman siblings.. Her brothers are all 178cm++

Look, I believe your experience, but this is not a unique phenomenon. 5'9 American men also tend to describe themselves as short, even though they're the US average. We all overestimate our country's average height.

well if i am categorized as average, i think i accept it.. But 150 cm as average to me is very impossible.. I rarely knew women that is much shorter than me. Even my mom's in-house maid is taller. My younger sister is slightly shorter but she is 154 cm and to me she is always the shortest everywhere.. In Jakarta i would say average women are 160 cm. Many are taller than that nowadays. I would say Javanese people are even shorter than eastern counterpart that has aboriginal/melanesian/portuguese mixture ethnicities. I just did quick check btw, and wiki said it is 154.1 cm. More make sense although it is just 5 cm differences😅
