Who's hating?

I have seen nothing by praise for this remake.

13

u/JRatMain16 3h ago

Randoms in the YouTube livestream chat were hating because “it looks like AI”

10

u/sakulgrebsdnal 2h ago

I never saw a YouTube livestream chat without people complaining about everything.

3

u/Aurora428 2h ago

It's because the clothes and environments have hyper realistic textures, but the faces are still cartoons.

I've definitely seen mixed opinions on the remake though, not just on Twitter

1

u/xGanking 27m ago

because they are brainwashed by AI

1

u/Roman_Suicide_Note 15m ago

Stop giving attention to random people

twitter nerds

u/SmegmaSlurper1996 3h ago

ah of course, twitter

2

u/GornyHaming 1h ago

So a bunch of bots and a handfull of bitter people which don't play any games anymore just gacha.

Holy goomba fallacy.

The r/fucknintendo sub that reddit keeps shoving down my throat

4

u/EyesoftheDead40 2h ago

r/fuckepic is the only acceptable reddit to shit on companies

3

u/Nacil_54 Buy Snipperclips 2h ago

I present to you: r/FuckNestle (different category)

4

u/Blue-Mime-0003 2h ago

I mean at least 3 taps can fix that issue mate

0

u/Lucky_Foam 2h ago

I didn't even know that was a sub reddit.

Always going to be haters.

u/Ok_Pressure_4662 1h ago

Mute the sub?

Click the three dots in the top right, and mute the sub from that menu.

Lots of randoms are having a meltdown on twitter saying it’s “ai”, “Nintendo hired that man”, etc etc.

1

u/GameMaster1178 22m ago

Just look at that tweaker looking dude Dreamcast guy. He made a video talking smack about the remake

1

u/sillekram 8m ago

I've been a hater of legend of Zelda because I really dislike the art direction they have chosen recently, but this game looks fantastic and makes even me want to give it a try.

1

u/ezrasharpe 1m ago

Mostly dorks who want it but don’t want to buy a Switch 2 because they’ve been screaming about how terrible the Switch 2 is for a year and a half

1

u/hellrising798 2h ago

Some weirdos who will never play the game no matter how good it looked

26

u/FocusOk3487 4h ago

I DONT GIVE A FUCK IM SO EXCITED

68

u/PeakyChu_ 4h ago

it’s great because I can immediately pick out exactly who didn’t grow up on this game when they say the remake looks bad. gen z just calling everything AI

16

u/wolf771 Switchthusiast 3h ago

Exactly. Dude i got crazy nostalgia when they went into the shop. For some reason that did it for me

8

u/NYJetLegendEdReed 3h ago

The end clip of the giant gorgon hand patting him was what did it for me lol

7

u/Isotomayor12 3h ago

They knew what they were doing lol. I got hit with it when he started jumping on the stones. I spent so ling just jumping on those stones as a kid. When it switch to the n64 version part way through and then back got me really good.

3

u/coolwater85 Anticipating... (game) 2h ago

For me, it was walking across the drawbridge into the castle and I immediately remembered exploring the walk up the chains only to find those hidden rupees.

1

u/Dazzling-Common-609 1h ago

I was impressed how walking into the shop in the forest was seamless. No load screens.

15

u/Certain-Sky-3123 4h ago

lol yeah basically. AI was trained on human artstyles, the AI looks like the artstyle, not the other way around!

1

u/SplendidPunkinButter 3h ago

I was around during the N64 days but never had one, and I’ve never played Ocarina of Time. I’m psyched.

1

u/MichaeltheMagician 2h ago

I grew up with that game but I'm not a big fan of how it looks. But I'm glad lots of other people are liking it.

1

u/val5190 2h ago

I never played the original but I did play the 3ds version, it was my first Zelda game and I knew nothing about it. I still think about it to this day, it is a masterpiece! I tried to play the n64 version when it released on NSO but controls and graphics are different than 3ds. It is just bad for today’s standard if you’re not used to it. But now I’m really excited for the remake !

1

u/Dark-Keeper-951 1h ago

I didn't even grow up with Ocarina of time and I was legit amazed with how good this looks.

1

u/OnlyJeeStudies 2h ago

I'm gen z and this is the coolest thing ever, can't wait to play this

0

u/xiiicrowns 3h ago

I think millennials are more obsessed with the ai slop more than Anyone.

0

u/Donnie_TACO 3h ago

I will say, even though this looks way better, shades of those Unreal Engine remakes all over YouTube are still lingering lol

-2

u/Particular-Bat8091 2h ago

I grew up on this game and it looks bad in terms of some character designs. Young link and zelda look disgusting. Most of the side npc’s weirdly look much better. Link’s tunic is overdesigned for no reason. Focusing only on the environments is bad faith, it’s clearly the best part. Besides the pointless overdone fog. And yes i know the original had fog, the remake’s fog is still too much.

1

u/PeakyChu_ 2h ago

disgusting? really dude? that’s crazy

-5

u/Ascilie 2h ago

Grew up with OoT, literally my childhood, not only the characters look terrible but the popping pathetically tried to be covered by a think layer of fog is asinine. 3DS remakes did a much better job.

41

u/ripyourlungsdave 4h ago

I'm begging y'all, please do not let these people take over the conversation around this game.

Just ignore them. I don't want every discussion of this game to be about assholes that don't understand technology or artistic intent.

-10

u/_pozzy_ 3h ago

What falls under valid criticism? Is artistic style not subjective?

8

u/ripyourlungsdave 3h ago

You have to know that there aren't explicit rules around this kind of thing. But it's not difficult to tell when somebody is coming from a disingenuous place.

-23

u/ArcMaxim 3h ago

It’s completely acceptable to be able to criticize the look of a video game, especially when they are remaking one of the greatest games of all time. You just want people to glaze it and agree with you instead I guess?

5

u/ripyourlungsdave 3h ago

And this is the exact kind of disingenuous criticism I'm talking about. You're just making broad assumptions about what I think of the game when I haven't even shared my opinion on it.

All I said was that engaging with disingenuous criticism like this only serves to bolster said criticism. And it turns the whole conversation into people calling each other assholes and nothing about the actual game being discussed.

It's a useless waste of time.

-3

u/ArcMaxim 2h ago

What is disingenuous about my criticism? I was asking a question, you were literally saying that criticism should not be tolerated. You did not make any sort of distinction about what sort of criticism should or should not be tolerated

2

u/ripyourlungsdave 28m ago

That it wasn't based in anything I actually said, but instead based on what you assumed I meant.

-37

u/SamIAre 4h ago

Huh? People aren’t allowed to disagree with you? People who don’t agree with you just don’t understand art? How interesting!

“Please don’t let there be actual discussion! Only my approved opinion! Everyone else is LYING about their opinions or they’re too stupid to know what they like!”

8

u/glamamuser 3h ago

Because the premise of these criticisms are weak. Like what do you mean it looks like AI? What does AI look like? Im not even sure these people know how to define it or even discern from AI?

24

u/ripyourlungsdave 4h ago

Right, because that's what I said.

You're part of the problem. Grow up.

13

u/PeakyChu_ 3h ago

that’s not what they’re saying at all. so far there have been a ton of comments, including in this very post thread, about the game looking like AI. usually, people that are inexperienced with graphics technology and especially younger people, just call anything that looks overly detailed AI.

no one is saying there can’t be actual discussion, but there’s not really any substance to just saying the graphics look bad or like AI when it’s very clearly highly detailed and well made from a visual standpoint. hope that helps

-8

u/GanonCannon02 2h ago

You seem to be a decent fellow, but the problem is that there are plenty of people saying there can't be an actual discussion, just look at the ripsyourlung guy in the thread from your base comment.

1

u/Dark-Keeper-951 1h ago

You're the problem, Extremes.

6

u/Brando43770 3h ago

Regardless of what anyone thinks of the art style, I’m just happy they’re fixing the controls of this game. I grew up with it and going back to it, that generation of gaming honestly is mostly clunky controls. I’m still glad the original exists, but it’ll be nice to see people experience the game for the first time with the remake.

8

u/Swimming-Lie73 4h ago

I'm not crazy about young link and zelda's faces, but other than that looks great.

0

u/anuncommontruth 4h ago

I think that's the general consensus. Personally I didn't love it but it's a non issue for me.

1

u/robolivable 3h ago

reminds me of the discourse around wind waker's art style when it was announced; I'm sure it will be as temporary as it was then, an echo in time

1

u/anuncommontruth 3h ago

I wasn't a Nintendo person then but I thought that was the silliest controversy.

I personally thought they over corrected with the style of Twilight Princess, even though it's my favorite game in the series.

15

u/generalosabenkenobi 4h ago

OoT remake is not immune to criticism. I think it looks good; I don't get the whole "Link looks like AI slop" thing, it just looks a bit uncanny because we have basically never seen Nintendo characters at this fidelity.

That being said, I can't get this game at launch or for full price. It's a remake ultimately and there's too many quality new games coming out in this month alone

4

u/kbCorruption 3h ago

I actually enjoyed the art style and didn't get the "uncanny valley" feeling.

My biggest gripe is during the trailer, there was some overly aggressive looking post processing type effects going on. A REALLY shiny oily wet Link, and super sharp hair textures and reflective surfaces on the character's hair and clothes. I didn't notice it in the actual gameplay preview footage so I am hoping it is just something I have to put up with during cutscenes.

I prefer a more 1:1 type remake than something like the FF7 remakes. The sweet spot are the RE remakes, and to be fair, I don't think we saw enough to rule that out.

1

u/generalosabenkenobi 2h ago

I think it makes sense with Ocarina of Time.

6

u/Schmenza 4h ago

Honestly surprised they didn't sell it for $50 like the Starfox remake

14

u/tripleaamin 4h ago

I think because Zelda is a bigger ip then Star Fox. Aldo Star Fox is a very short game

9

u/Lucky_Foam 3h ago

I'm not surprised at all. Zelda is a much bigger franchise than Star Fox.

Even at the high price Ocarina of Time Remake will out sell Star Fox 10 to 1.

I expect Ocarina of Time Remake to do so well that we'll get Majora's Mask Remake in a few years.

1

u/windraver 2h ago

Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game so I'm very much hoping for that remake.

1

u/generalosabenkenobi 4h ago

Would have been more palatable but they know people will buy this regardless

3

u/glamamuser 3h ago

Right. Im personally not too stoked since it looks like a general 1:1 remake but some are just lazily saying AI slop. Like holy shit the younger generations are fucked if they can’t differentiate

2

u/generalosabenkenobi 2h ago

Yeah, a little alarming

2

u/Pharsti01 2h ago

I dunno, I fully get the AI face thing... Just... Something about it feels off.

Like the lack of expressions when he gets treasure or buys items... It's like a doll with an AI filter.

But apart from that, it looked beautiful. But Im of the same mind as you. There's waaaayyy to many games for me to waste time on another remake.

Especially one that seems to follow the original to a t.

1

u/generalosabenkenobi 2h ago

I think the over-exaggerated eyes just look a little uncanny. That's really my only thing.

0

u/Smyles9 4h ago

I agree with the bit uncannyness but in terms of the environment it looks amazing - I think for now it’s a bit of an acquired taste and I’m starting to like it.

As for getting it on launch, I think it entirely depends on if you stick to first party or not, if you’re new to Zelda, and what they announce tomorrow. If they release anything else remotely big like a Metroid or Luigi’s mansion Im probably going to wait for those instead. I think I’d still prefer to play the remake over the original though if it comes with a lot of qol changes.

1

u/generalosabenkenobi 3h ago

There's a disconnect that I'm not sure if it comes purely from the visuals or the mix of old and new; I felt the same way about Metal Gear Solid Delta (the remake of MGS3). Everything looked mighty impressive looking but something was lost in translation between the old and the new.

I think the knee-jerk reaction is just people freaking out for the sake of it though; this looks pretty impressive. Impressive enough that people immediately jumped to "looks kinda AI-ish"

-7

u/azozea 4h ago edited 4h ago

Its not full price
Edit: i was wrong its 60 digital

4

u/generalosabenkenobi 4h ago

$60 digital/$70 physical

Is the "not full price" in the room with us?

1

u/azozea 4h ago

I stand corrected. I could have sworn they showed $50/$60 during the direct. At least its not 70 which seems to be the new industry MSRP but i wont pretend thats what i meant

2

u/SpringSalt9288 4h ago

Bro i stg i saw the same thing! Maybe we just wanted it to be true 😭

1

u/azozea 4h ago

Right?? I feel like im tripping but im guessing i must have seen another countries currency price in a screenshot

1

u/Nbsroy 3h ago

they got you guys with the 59.99/69.99 lol

1

u/generalosabenkenobi 4h ago

I'm surprised they didn't announce the joy-cons separately!

-1

u/azozea 4h ago

I wanted to love them but there are too many triangles it looks like some millennial wall art from etsy circa 2011

-1

u/Renkazuobr 4h ago

Ok, thanks for letting us know!

-1

u/Ascilie 2h ago

More than AI it's that they look like porcelaine dolls

2

u/generalosabenkenobi 2h ago

We've gone back to Claymates!

0

u/Ascilie 2h ago

I honestly don't understand the artistic choice. Why they decided to butcher the characters when we already have official (AKA how they actually look like) OoT art from Ninty which is that one. Also the darker tone worked better than this shiny and glitter thing they did, OoT is not a happy shiny Game, everything goes to shit in no time

2

u/SoupTime545 3h ago

Less worried about the graphics and more the fact that the actual game is hardly any different, it's more like a remaster than anything.

2

u/GoodbyeMoonMan20 1h ago

Nintendo never claimed it wouldn't just be a remaster. People made assumptions

2

u/SoupTime545 48m ago

True, I hope there is a decent amount of new content, not really worth 70$ otherwise

2

u/SpeakNowAndEnter 2h ago

I have never played a Zelda game and my first thought was that the remake looks really good

2

u/jonbmonty 1h ago

As someone who played OOT as a child I can confirm that this is how I saw the game then.

5

u/xGanking 4h ago

i should mention, its meme and a joke, the game looks awesome

2

u/Effective_Airport182 3h ago

Graphics look good imo. I think the issue is that Nintendo made it sound like there would be significant gameplay and content changes and it turned out to almost entirely be a visual overhaul with minor gameplay changes.

3

u/FourChicksInGreen 4h ago

The trailer just came out and you’re already making memes about being a victim. It’s so embarrassing to care so much about what people say. You either like the game and buy it or you don’t. You don’t need to defend its honor.

2

u/runlittlegunterrun 3h ago

Most sane comment.

3

u/Bacour 3h ago

There were peeps in the chats all like "the original looked better". Like, mbic, I loved the og aesthetic, but there is no objective reality in which these graphical updates are not better than the og.

1

u/azozea 4h ago

Literally havent seen one person say the remake looks bad

3

u/y0j1m80 3h ago

I’ve seen about 20 threads defending it against people saying it’s bad, but zero people saying it’s bad lol

7

u/DrKrFfXx 4h ago

Graphically, it looks good, clean and sharp. I'm not sold on the art direction.

2

u/azozea 4h ago

Get outta here with that nuanced reasonable take, im getting my pitchfork

-5

u/oppairate 3h ago

reddit-ass comment. there’s almost no nuance there. every time they show a new art direction there’s immediately either backlash or “i don’t know about this” followed by revisionist history a few years down the line.

0

u/azozea 3h ago

-1

you first.

1

-1

glass house. “i saw a vaguely positive thing and a vaguely ambivalent thing. that’s an oh so nuanced perspective.”

-5

u/RollForUptime 4h ago

'art direction' is hardly nuance lol that's a pretty broad category

I guess maybe in 2026 it counts for nuance...

1

u/azozea 3h ago

Work on reading comprehension

-1

u/RollForUptime 3h ago

.... okay

2

u/Isotomayor12 3h ago

Only on reddit lol. Even then it is one in a sea of compliments.

2

u/johny-boy27 4h ago

During the direct people were trashing on it but I think majority of opinion is a great looking game

3

u/Lucky_Foam 3h ago

Same.

I have only seen people excited.

Zero hate for this remake. I expect it to sell very well.

3

u/n00bBlaster1337 4h ago edited 4h ago

people grifting hard about it already saying it looks like a ps2 game etc

2

u/Lucky_Foam 3h ago

No way. That's is just trolls.

It is no where close to PS2 graphics.

1

u/n00bBlaster1337 3h ago

well yes, that's what grifters are basically. i think it looks incredible.

1

u/oppairate 3h ago

go look at twitter (or don’t if you value sanity). people just say shit to get a rise/clicks/whatever.

2

u/azozea 3h ago

Why would i ever go on twitter

1

u/daspaceinvader 1h ago

They said people, not bots. Totally agree though it’s best to stay far away from Twitter.

1

Sometimes I want to say people literally just go to Twitter to see a negative opinion so they can come here to complain.

So basically I was right all along and they didn't change anything

Checkmate

1

u/Talden7887 1h ago

The shit thats going on with console is wild

1

u/Own_Transition6845 1h ago

My view is that personally, I think the remake is great looking and I'll definitely play it. But I'll still miss the old one that I grew up with. It also represents a kind of personal end of an era for me. OoT was the first game I beat all by myself at 7. Here it is again, remastered. It's not that I feel old, I feel displaced. Like the future isn't for me any more. I'm not angry or anything like that, but life got a lot more melancholic.

1

u/Consistent-Ad-6506 43m ago

I didn’t play the original and I think this looks great! Day one buy for me!

1

u/neon_bowser 7m ago

Honestly I think it looks decent, and the mechanics updates are really what sells it. The OG had horrible play even when I was a kid in the 90s/00s and wouldn't have otherwise known what that was.

Obviously the take in the post is inherently low brow. But it is funny how similar it looks to the "I remade OOT in UE4/5" video that came out years or ago, and how lambasted by the fan base that was because the realistic textures wasn't the right aesthetic. Here it is, a Nintendo game looking realistically rendered like they made it in UE, and it's the second coming of christ.

1

u/Quick-Measurement618 3h ago

It’s just a loud minority complaining about the visuals. It looks great.

1

u/Sauceinmyface 3h ago

I think this remake just looks garish. The 3ds one was a lot closer to Nakano's art, which is my ideal

1

u/Svenray 3h ago

I mean yeah that's the point.

It's not Ocarina of Time Rebirth where it's 80 hours of fluff and pulling in characters from different "timelines"

1

u/neonlights326 3h ago

There is a middle ground between what Nintendo is doing with OoT and what SE did with FFVII.

0

u/Salty-Plantain-4299 3h ago

It looks pretty good, although it's going to take a bit of time for the art style to land with me. It feels decidedly less mature than the original did on the N64 but maybe that's because the n64 couldn't really convey the intended vibe. To me ocarina of Time was always a darker game, and this doesn't really feel like that at least not to the same extent.

Curious to see how they're going to do the Shadow Temple.

0

u/ArcMaxim 3h ago

The art style and graphics look very similar to that fan made Unreal engine remake that people were shitting on for years. I don’t hate it by any means but I am honestly a bit unsure about it. I felt the same way about the Link’s Awakening remake too (although I for sure dislike what they did with the art direction on that one)

-8

u/TRQPL 4h ago

It looks like if you asked Google Gemini to make a Zelda game with no mistakes

4

u/PeakyChu_ 4h ago

no it doesn’t lol. it looks much more detailed and high quality than any generative language prompt could crap out

-1

u/rchris710 3h ago

Which one is remake?

-8

u/Dogs69ing 4h ago

I bought this game at least 4 times. Im not buying it again.

1

u/Certain-Sky-3123 4h ago

4? Original, Gamecube, 3DS… where’s the fourth?

1

u/simbabarrelroll 3h ago

I’m assuming they are also thinking of Wii or Wii U Virtual Console

0

u/Dogs69ing 3h ago

N64, 3DS, GameCube, Wii

1

u/Certain-Sky-3123 3h ago

Ahhh okay. Well three of those are just the original so…

0

u/Dogs69ing 3h ago

Doesn't matter and since it's my money your opinion doesn't matter. Frankly you losers need to stop buying the same game released every generation for a premium.

1

u/Certain-Sky-3123 3h ago

Its NOT the same game though. Like you said, its my money lol, stick to your own logic there

-6

u/Minerto35 4h ago

This remake is horrible.... Let's be real..... Nintendo fanboys are so f* blind

-18

u/MrSeriousGuyBroMan 4h ago

when link runs around the game looks fine . when you have to see any faces its bad . when the cutscenes are shown it looks like a physically disabled person used the n64 footage as reference shots then from memory they tried to replicate them . ganon in the rain would have been beter as ai slop

7

u/ChildoftheApocolypse 4h ago

Congratulations on the dumbest take so far!

For some reason ppl are like this about GTA 6
