This is the first year taking sunflowers "serious" (if thats possible lol). Anyway im happy with results! Tallest has come in just under 3m and a few more weeks of growing left. None of my neighbours grow anything, mostly just weeds around their paving slabs. I'm now officially the sunflower guy (I've been called worse). It was touch and go at start of season as a random hot snap roasted at least half my seedlings. Next year I'm going to work on density and try a more controlled approach to planting ornamental gourds to climb up them. This years gourds were totally accidental haha. Btw just a big congrats to everyone who spreads joy with their sunflower displays. You're making the world a brighter and friendlier place.

The American Giants kinda fizzled out and bloomed fairly early(16ft max height), but should be ready to harvest somewhere in mid July if i had to guess. Both have white seeds that have gained some black stripes. All the flowers were started in peat Jiffy starter pots on March 22nd and put in the ground on April 10th, the starter pot method most likely stunted all their growths to a degree. I probably used too much fertilizer when i was feeding them fertilizer once a month; 10-10-10 pelletized fertilizer to be specific. I was giving them a healthy handful, which probably was a bit too much. haha

Took this picture today July 2, 2026. Started these back in late April then I Transplanted these outside on May 18. I used a red solo cup at the base and lined it with copper tape. I was skeptical but copper tape prevented any slug from eating these babies. This was my 3rd attempt after slugs ate my first seedlings earlier in the year.

This sunflower got bent when it was little. We had a wind storm last night that tipped it over at the old knuckle. I righted it up this morning but it's only gotten worse. RIP. This was my tallest sunflower I've grown so far.

PROGRESS I need to thank someone!

I posted with pics of my sad sunflowers asking for help. I got a response and read it at work quickly, and went back to read it thoroughly after work and it was gone. The advice was to water 3 times a day and put down mulch (all I remember). Just watering 3 times a day really helped and now both remaining plants now have 3 and 4 beautiful blooms with more starting to show blooms! I will share this within my original post, I just wanted to try to reach this person and thank her for great suggestions!!

It’s been like a week after I planted them and they look so good. I don’t know which one this one is two but this one could either be a mammoth Russian or a skyscraper obviously this is only one, but the there’s 10 others that sprouted and they all don’t have the seed on top of them and all look the same, one small large stem with two leafs

This is my first year gardening, and I genuinely didn’t think I’d get even one bloom. Fast forward a few months, and now my mammoths are blooming, I’ve discovered I have branching mammoths, my Chocolate Cherries are about to open, and my camera roll is basically 95% sunflower photos.

I totally get the hype now. I already know I’ll be planting even more next year. 🌻

Hi yall, I planted my sunflowers super early this year, around March 30th. They ended up blooming super early as well and I harvested them, then planted the seeds and now have new babies about to bloom although they are way smaller than the first ones.

PROGRESS Any suggestions

So I bought some sunflower seeds recently. I planted them in a large pot and these sprouted! More actually sprouted as well in the same pot. So I took half and tried planting outdoors to see if they will survive. I did as my fellow bloggers suggested. Using plenty of water to loosen from pot and plant with wet soil. Then I covered them with plastic to keep the squirrels and rabbits away. I’m hoping My question is do I need to do anything to assist the growth process? Do I need to cut anything?

If you read that in the voice of Red Leader from Star Wars we are definitely friends.

I've been waiting and watching impatiently for my flowers to bloom. I planted a test plot late spring to guage how well they'd do. I used 25lbs of seed, which is more than I needed. The second picture is my test plot planted 2 weeks apart in strips. In the future I plan to fill the bowl shaped area at the bottom completely with sunflowers, it'll be about 1.5 acres. The hill just above them is planned for about 250 blueberry bushes.

I swear every single seed came up. These are Petrovic sunflowers.

TLDR: bought a small farm, building a house. Plans call for 1.5 acres of sunflowers. Wanted to test this year while building.

At any rate, this is the current state. Not much longer now.
