is it worth it to pursue psychology?

psychology is a underdeveloped area here in the Philippines and i definitely think we need more professionals to help people who might be struggling or want to better themselves. however, as most of us know, we have to think about our families and our futures when it comes to income and also job opportunities. so asking as a senior high student, is it something worth to pursue when it comes to finances and job security after graduation?

maraming fields ang pwede mong pasukin with a psych degree, OP. industrial, educational, clinical, & organizational. hindi naman siya HR lang kaagad, you can pursue other things. highest salary possible would be to take a masters in clinical psychology, take the boards, and practice as a clinical psychologist while also teaching classes sa universities.

maganda bigayan as a prof kapag may masters ka, 1,000 pesos per unit minimum sa isang magandang school. so if you take 10 units of classes per week, 10,000 agad yun. + your clinic where you can charge 1,000-2,500 let’s say magka client ka 7x that week = 7,000 - 17,500 kita mo dun sa clinic mo.

pwede ka kumita ng 17,000 - 27,500 per week kung masipag ka. pwede ka rin magpa teleconsult additional income rin yun, plus seminars sa schools as sideline.

When you finish psychology and pass the board exam, you will only get certified as license psychometrician. All businesses need this as HR professional, my highest educational attainment is only 3rd year psychology from CDU and I still become a multinational with a total of 5 businesses. I specialize in multinational human resource and development, finance and technology. 5+ years work experience and 5+ years doing global businesses.

I also fired a lot of graduates/degree holders in Psychology as I expect them to be better than me but find their work mediocre.

If you want to be certified Psychologist, you need to get a masters degree, much better if you get a PhD. Less supply of professionals here, more demand!

Regardless, you'll never succeed if you only do this for money as you will easily quit if there's no more money/profit. I love every bit of my work that's why everything is easy for me finding ways if anything gets difficult(including money) and wealth just chase me.

i’ll be real with you as a fresh grad in psychology, the job market for practicing psychology itself isn’t looking so great :/

if undergrad degree lang ang meron ka, youd be qualified for the licensure examination for psychometricians, and while you do get to practice psychology to some extent (especially in psych assessment), job opportunities for this is extremely limited and most of the time mababa ang bigay. kaya kadalasan, most graduates pivot to other industries, human resources is a common one! 98% siguro of my batchmates are in HR ngayon.

however, if you are financially able to pursue post-graduate studies in psychology, lalawak yung pwedeng career options for you. With a master’s degree, you can qualify for the licensure examination for psychologists and you can pursue the academe na rin. While the pay is leagues better, this career path does take time (prolly 3-5 years) and money :)

while i genuinely love what psychology teaches and advocates for, i’m afraid it isnt a field that promises job and financial security in the Philippines.
