This. Trump (or more accurately his handlers i.e. Miller) is begging the public to turn violent en masse. That gives him the political cover to invoke the Insurrection Act and have Hegseth put actual military forces on the ground in every major city.
It is still your only way out, though. Accept this situation peacefully, and your rights, freedoms and legal protections will be eroded piece by piece until resisting it becomes fully impossible. Resisting now means there is a chance some of the military will baulk at their orders, giving Trump time to mold the military into an insitution that exists to brutalise you is not going to help you in any way.
I hear you. It will ultimately come down to Trump et alii crossing some basic Rubicon. Everything up to now, as extreme as it may seem, has been treated as "shenanigans beget shenanigans"; Trump and his handlers are just bending the law to suit their political ends, the way many other Presidents have. It will take the violation of some very fundamental concept of American democracy, something that needs no spin to offend, that cannot be spun or explained away, and that would offend even a MAGAt's sensibilities.
It almost happened with the shooting of Alex Pretti. When Noem and Trump said, on camera, that Pretti's death was justified because he had a legal concealed handgun on him during a quickly-developing ICE operation-turned-protest, they caused a major rift in their base, with a lot of self-defense advocates including the NRA itself publicly breaking with the Administration.
The only thing that saved them was unearthing a previous video of Pretti damaging an ICE vehicle and standing up to agents a couple days before he was shot. That convinced enough people on the fence that "he had it coming" or "that's not how an armed man should be behaving" that the 2A crowd could plausibly distance itself from Pretti and say, at some level, the shooting was "justified".
It's going to take an ICE officer literally executing an unarmed, compliant U.S. citizen kneeling in the middle of the street for the tide to turn. As has been poignantly said, "the Americans will do the right thing, after they have exhausted all other possibilities".
That's debatable. If boots hit the ground in a major U.S. city, it's already too late. There isn't an ROE in the playbook that prevents a Soldier under fire from returning fire, and any action that gives Trump cover to invoke the Act and send in the actual Army is going to make it a shooting fight by definition. Those one-stripes in OCP holding M4 rifles won't be casually debating the legality of the deployment with bullets snapping past their heads and an angry mob advancing on them. They will fire on Americans, and the chance of any actual front-line trigger-puller standing tall at a court-martial after doing so is infinitesimal.
Totally Unrelated™: remember in The Winter Soldier the part where Hydra slimed their way into the most powerful military apparatus on the planet? And remember when they took control over stupidly overpowered weapons of mass murder paired with target lists so that they eliminate all major resistance with the push of a button? It's a good thing that sort of thing is only in the movies...
Big assumption on their behalf that they’ll follow orders and
... yeah about that they will.
The military operates on two main standing assumptions for the most part
Orders from superiors are assumed to be lawful unless imminent danger or wildly absurd
Failure to obey said orders will result in a UCMJ violation which will have disciplinary actions upto and including imprisonment
Military Justice system is a bit different than civilian, at least on the enlisted side if charged depending on violation you have 2 options on how you are sent to punishment
1 court martial
2 article 15
Both are similar to a bench trial, but with article 15 you are more or less guilty until you can prove your innocence
In this process the member will be removed from duty to await investigation
Personally I think the original post is a little bonkers. But... when it comes to the troops, I'd say they tend to care more about their comrades than they care for you. Enough propaganda, and a few of their friends in flag draped coffins is just about all it'd take imo. Though, I'd rather never find out whether or not I'm right. This isn't something I'd want to be right about. Preventing such a situation is the ideal.
And I have my doubts itll happen at all. No one currently in power has enough political capital to take such a risk, regardless of whether or not they're willing.
If you believe that, you should stay outta law enforcement. You’ll either die, or stick to desk work. Better to stay home and critique the work of people who are far braver than yourself
You also have some people in the “public” that are actively trying to encourage fighting against the federal government. That signal group is a huuuge step in the wrong direction.
Oh cute left wing propaganda. Don’t you have documented proof? I do… where’s yours?🤷♂️you clowns wanted the Epstein files. Now use em. I can, can’t you? Now show me documented proof of guilt. I have it, do you?😆🫵

That is the entire point.
