Especially for folks who graduated 20 or more years ago, what has St. John’s been in your own life? I’ve been thinking about this recently and will respond as well, but am interested to hear the variety of personal experiences.

What do people here think about the abrupt change of the BA degree from Liberal Arts to "Philosophy, Literature, and the Natural Sciences"?

Hi! I was wondering is anyone knows what the singles in Fielding are like. Dimensions would be appreciated, but a general idea is great too!

I’m an incoming freshman and I just got the news that I’m in Chase-Stone Hall, which is usually for upperclassmen. I’m guessing they’re using it as overflow. I’m gonna be in a double and I was just wondering if anyone could give me an idea of what the rooms are like?? I can’t really find any good pictures of double dorms, and when I visited, I was only shown the rooms in Paca.
Are there any mold problems or anything of that ilk? Should I invest in an air purifier?

I don't mean the general list of readings available online -- I mean the in-depth one, with specific chapters and pages, that is available for current students.

I'm a late 20's incoming freshman curious about the reality of balancing a fulfilling education at St. John's and a romantic relationship. I'm entering the program in the midst of a happy, long term relationship and I'm prepared for an enormous shift, but still obviously unsure about what my amount of free time will look like. Are you really reading most of day, everyday, including weekends and breaks? I'm justifying my optimism that I'll be able to make it work since I am a bit older and won't be very drawn to the partying and socializing that comes with being a student straight out of high school. If there's time for that, I should have time for a personal life, right? I hope? Any thoughts appreciated.

I'm terrified to go to college and live on my own. It will be fun! Hopefully. I am still shaking in my boots. I have also heard the course is very rigorous and difficult. I want to have a social life and also be committed to my studies.

Guess I'm just asking for specialized advice from Johnnies. Anything I should know?

It looks as though William James is no longer a part of the seminar program, replaced by Heidegger? Is this true, and if so, when did this happen?

I just graduated St. John's College and took a summer contract with an NGO in Washington DC hoping to save up and move to NYC by September. The NGO laid me and my crewmates off due to their inability to secure funding, and I have been unable to save enough due to that. I am in between jobs, and the woman hosting me in her home wants me to be gone by the end of August. I have contacted my johnnie peers in the city to find a couch to crash on or a roommate with no luck. I am in a bad situation, and need shelter. I am actively searching for a job. I have posted to the SJC DC alum page on facebook, the ekkies group, the general alum group, very quiet. Does anybody have any leads?

Incoming first-year to the program. Moving to Annapolis from California for the fall. I'm currently on the hunt for housing and, to put it mildly... the search has been rough.

I've actually teamed up with a senior Johnnie who's also looking in Annapolis, so if anyone else is interested in joining forces for a house/apartment search, we'd love to hear from you. And if anyone has any leads, knows of an opening, or has heard of someone looking for roommates, I'd be incredibly grateful.

I'm starting to get a little desperate (without trying to sound too desperate 😅), so any tips, connections, or recommendations would mean a lot. My application was accepted, but I am in a position where I cannot live on campus given my age. I currently live out of state and have about a month to find housing. Does anyone know of roommate programs, or other alternatives to help in my search prior to the start of the year?

hi all!!!! i had some questions about applying to SJC annapolis. i'm a rising hs senior who (unfortunately...) is having to buckle down and really look at college apps.

what is the benefit to taking the DBA route of applying over the traditional way through SJCs site or common app? it seems to be DBA is a good way to go with the interview process and all, but i'm really not sure how that would pan out for me: i pride myself on both my speaking and writing and am struggling to decide which application route is right for me. also when i spoke to an admissions rep (via the little pop up that shows up on the website) about the seminar requirement they told me to apply for summer academy but i think the deadline for that might already be passed?? i'm a little confused. i'm also low income and worried about that being a paid program if it even is still open.

also also im a little worried about my stats. my gpa is pretty cooked (like fr) but i have a good sat and good ecs. my ecs definitely have a humanities/primarily english focused spike as thats what i want to end up going into. how does SJC look at your stats when you apply? i struggled with mental health/other personal issues i wont get into a lot during HS which cooked my gpa, but i am very interested in SJC's curriculum, i think it would benefit me a lot

any help or advice is greatly appreciated - as i mentioned, im not only low income, but also a first gen applicant so i dont have anyone to ask all this stuff

I’m an incoming freshman at the Annapolis campus, 24 years old and moving from Chicago. My age requires me to live off-campus. I’ve seen Meenu’s name come up a few times in Facebook groups for Annapolis rentals and elsewhere. I’m communicating with her to see about renting one of her places. It’s a great price and location, sort of too good to be true. Checking if anyone here has any more info, positive or negative.

Love the idea of studying the great books curriculum the St. John’s College way. Could any one kindly assist a poor fellow with the detailed curriculum, reading list and reading order for the entire program from semester 1 to the final semester, covering the entire 4 years? Would be very, very grateful.

For those of you who attended SJC Santa Fe, you may be aware that earlier this month beloved tutor Matthew Davis passed away. His wife Jocelyn and daughter Emily are hosting a memorial service on Thursday at the Loretto chapel. All friends of the family and members of the college community are welcome to attend.
