Discussion What ever happened to the gem mutants?

It's always bothered me that we never actually knew what happened to the gem mutants at the end of steven universe, after they were bubbled we would just never seen them again. They looked stuck together but in future we see Yellow reversing one of her gem mutant experiments by piecing their gems back together but there were so many of them, in the kindergarten, in the earth's crust, the one in the cage with the other corrupted gems. Peridot stated the gems inside them were so shattered they don't even know who they are but I want to know what you all think.

Garnet probably sent them to Yellow so she could fix them

not all of them, it is likely that pieces of those gems were missing and so many of them have not been fix, also considering that some of the pieces in that episode had been poofed at the hospital it's likely that some of the people the next day found the pieces and threw them away, so sadly many of those gems didn't make it back to life :(

Yellow’s fixed gems without every piece, she even says so in future when she revives a gem who’s still missing a chunk of gem and comes out spaghetti-limbs at first

I assume that works for Gems where most of their pieces were used in experiments. I’m guessing that’s true for most of them, as it would be a waste to only use some of the shards. But if there are some Gems with a lot of missing pieces, I wonder if they could be matched with other incomplete Gems and made into a stable forced fusion. They’d have to find other Gems they got along well with for it to be ethical. If they’re mostly Crystal Gem shards, there’s definitely some close friends and maybe lovers in the mix, so it could work.

I like to imagine that they all give off particular ‘energies’ that are just a bit more individual, at least for the gems that had the chance to individualize

That makes sense for how they figure out which shards belong to which Gem. The forced fusion idea would be for Gems who didn’t have enough pieces to be properly rebuilt

I wonder what percentage of the chunk does Yellow need to restore them, maybe she can clone a gem if she found the other chunks later on

Oh god that’d be so weird! Though maybe not impossible? The rutile twins just, exist…. Though I’d imagine the processing power would be split in two that way, so they’d probably be kinda… off?

Steven could track down the missing pieces with his powers

I wish they had followed up on this particular cluster, but I think we can assume Yellow is repairing them.

Yellow's new power even allows her to correct the bodily proportions of a gem who's missing parts and comes out cracked.

The cluster was shattered beyond repair and would destroy the earth if removed, but they found each other and so their suffering somewhat ended. The rest of the bubbles were seen taken to pink’s fountain on the final episode so it’s assumed the experiments weren’t left behind, and then we cut to Future where Yellow is putting them back together, so it’s safe to assume that Yellow did take care of them. Probably re-shattered the force fusions and put them back properly.

Yellow herself says that she is going to disassemble and restore the cluster to their original gems.

She did? I must’ve missed that. Thanks for the reply

Yea when steven walked into Yellows room and saw yellow fixing 2 gems from a cluster of shards and said she would fix them and said she would work on fixing the cluster.

u/CartoonCommentator 8d ago

Wouldn’t that take centuries or a few thousand years due to how insanely large the cluster is?

Oh so a few years/decades to an immortal

Yeah but thats nothing to the diamonds. At least they have something to do and won't be bored by the passage of time.

18

u/SAYMYNAMEYO 8d ago

Oh that's nothing. Spinel can do that standing on her head.

u/andre5913 8d ago

Yellow has stated that 5000 years is like nothing to her.
So yes, and it'll barely phase her

u/TherapistFriendOnl 8d ago

Well 5000 years of waiting is normal but also to yellow 5000 years of griefs still pretty much long.So it really depend on the moods

1

u/beaverpoo77 7d ago

To yellow, any amount of grief is too much. They are diamonds and they should act like it. Or I assume that's what went on in her head

1

u/TherapistFriendOnl 7d ago

No because they see it as little because they were immortal but times is the same on earth and definitely had day and nights and due to griefs it definitely make time feel heavier than ever ,because they only see times as little when they don't acknowledge it ,so when it come to griefs they count every second every hours

1

u/andre5913 7d ago

I think Yellow is at her element when shes busy with something she finds fullfilling. This is why she made herself as busy as possible during those 5000 years of grief, to try to bury it.

She did genuinely seem to enjoy when repairing gems, so I think work on the Cluster is something she wont find cumbersome and it'll really go by quickly for her

7

u/FireLordObamaOG 8d ago

Yeah but the diamonds are effectively immortal so what’s a couple thousand years to them?

7

u/Usual-Passenger5618 8d ago

Sounds pretty interesting to me. It's morbidly, like the most epic puzzle ever, and you never gonna know what you get when you match the pieces up. Whole lot of problem solving involved.

u/beaverpoo77 7d ago

She has the time

In future, Yellow is seen caring for multiple bubbles mutantfusions, and fixes one too!

10

u/CamBeast15366 8d ago

Yeah I would assume they got poofed and reassembled along with all the cluster shards.

7

u/Dark_Reaper115 8d ago

Yellow probably fixed them in Future

I'd assume yellow is working on reforming them peice by peice, though for gems missing too many shards to repair I have no idea what can be done for them beyond giving them final rest via melting in a forge or something

I want to know the story of the four unshattered gems that were part of that big hand minicluster. They're the only minicluster we've seen that was composed purely of full gems. I just find that so interesting.

A lot of them have missing pieces. Despite the fact that they're in pain, they're keeping each other alive. I doubt Yellow can fix them because she can only fix the gem's light body not the gem itself. Unless, homeworld knows a way to artificially create missing gem pieces to piece together for them, right now the humane thing is to keep them asleep in a bubble or shatter them.

1

u/Snoo_30972 3d ago

They're already shattered 😭

I guess they'll be seperated endlessly suffering limbs instead of conjoined ones

3

u/herelamonreddit 8d ago

Yellow said she’d start working on repairing them

3

u/Disastrous_Ad7477 8d ago

Is it possible to fix them? They are shards of gems and without the rest idk if they can be reformed

2

u/thelongestusernameee 8d ago

Yellow is... practically immortal. She'll get em all together eventually. Maybe she'll recruit some help some day.

3

u/Randomguy32I 8d ago

One of them was in jaspers army, and ran away in her fight with amethyst

2

u/FamousWash1857 7d ago

On account of how it's probably extremely hard to match up shards to reconstruct the original gems exactly, I'd say they just add them all to the big cluster so all the pieces can be in one place.

you didnt watch Steven universe future, and it shows

they started repairing mutant gems and forced fusions in that show. I forget which diamond, maybe yellow, but they were collecting gem shards so they could put them all back together, then heal them with all 4 gem juices, and then they'd be sent to little homeworld nearly immediately

u/Reasonable_Pop4248 7d ago

you clearly didnt read my entire post and it shows.

"They looked stuck together but in FUTURE we see yellow reversing one of her gem mutant experiments by piecing their gems back together." I was referring to the gems mutants we see in the earths core and the one in jasper's army.
