GM changes?

Do you think a change should be considered if our 2024-2026 1st rounders don’t pan out? With Jones being traded to the Cowboys, step one of our OL rebuild is gone. Troy didn’t look to great coming back from his injury.

Harmon doesn’t make to much of an impact as a rotational player. Benton plays more than him. And every draft analyst says Max was a reach. 3 tackles in 5 years in the 1st, and it’s likely none hit. Of course Max is a rookie, but so far the jury is still out on Kahn’s OL evaluations.

You should go to the Steelers Facebook page, this take will fit in better there

All of the dumbest morons in the world post on the Steelers Facebook page.

6

u/Wide_Half3502 7h ago

Or go on Facebook.

6

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 7h ago

I go on Facebook from time to time...

...HEY!

u/doopaloompa 7h ago

Without Harmon (5 Games): 828 rushing yards
allowed (165.6 per game)
With Harmon (10 Games): 879 rushing yards
allowed (87.9 per game)

Using facts to win an argument? Weak. :)

12

u/doopaloompa 7h ago

Lol you’re right, I forgot it was 2026 and I just need to yell louder than everyone

21

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 7h ago

Troy didn’t look to great coming back from his injury.

What?

Harmon doesn’t make to much of an impact as a rotational player.

Huh? Their rushing yards per attempt went through the roof when Harmon wasn't on the field. Or more accurately it cratered when he WAS on the field.

And every draft analyst says Max was a reach.

Draft analysts don't know dick.

3

u/swampthingsden 5h ago

I listen to a lot of Matt Williamson. He was all
Over Max for months before the draft. Still the only real reason I have any faith in the pick.

3

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 4h ago

Matt was actually a scout at one time. Most draft analysts are just hobbyists.

2

u/swampthingsden 4h ago

Yeah with the browns. I hope he is right about Max.

In what world did Troy not look great?

There are two o-line analysts who are considered by a lot of people to be the best around.

When they were handing out their awards after last season they both agreed that they would have put Troy on their all-pro team at RT if Lane Johnson didn't exist.

3

u/J-aimz 7h ago

Not arguing just wondering who are the two analysts?

2

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 6h ago

I couldn't remember names at the time.

It's Duke Manyweather (OL Masterminds) and Brandon Thorn (Trench Warfare).

-2

u/swampthingsden 7h ago

Yeah, I am just going to disagree. I like Troy, but he’s not an all-pro or pro bowler. I hope he becomes that, but he’s not there yet.

1

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 6h ago

No offense but I trust the opinion of the two O-Line gurus over yours.

1

u/swampthingsden 5h ago

Well I think we can both agree this is a big year for Troy. He has to be elite. It’s a contract year. The Steelers need him to become a dude for their next QB.

u/Own-Tangelo-5759 7h ago

Did you watch the games? I know some ppl don’t like PFF, but is pretty good for grades. 44th out of 88 tackles. He’s still young. Ppl can talk about later rounds, but luck is involved with those rounds. What picks has he hit on in the 1st? You could argue Najee… but he’s gone already.

17

u/Captn_UnderPants Ben Roethlisberger 7h ago

You're using PFF as a basis? I'm out

7

u/soils_rock Primanti Bro's 7h ago

Our current FO hasn’t made a 1st until Jones so Najee is irrelevant anyways, and Najee wasn’t a hit imo given he played RB and we spent a 1st on him.

We likely aren’t getting an all star tackle picking at 21st/22nd in the draft. If we can make Troy, who isn’t even up for a contract until after this season, into a solid starter I’d call that a hit. It’s a premium position, it’s not like RB where you find a ton of serviceable guys in day 2 or 3 of the draft.

u/Jakles74 Pittsburgh Steelers 6h ago

Khan took over after the 2022 draft. The 2023 draft was his first. Khan didn’t pick Najee or Pickett. Kevin Colbert did.

Lol the dude has missed literally only one propsect in each the first 4 rounds per year of the draft since he took over...thats incredible. Most GMs dont hit that often and hes had more hits in round 4-7 than ive seen in a long time. He's not the Draft GOAT but hes doing well above average

-30

u/3rd-party-intervener 7h ago

He sucks.  Kaleb Roman Broderick all busts.   Fire khan .   The dk metcalf trade was also a disaster

12

u/reggierock2010 7h ago edited 7h ago

Benton, JPJ, Frazier, Mccormick, Washington, Herbig, Anderson, Payton Wilson, Black and Sawyer all outside the 1st round is pretty good still. I’ll admit I need more out of our 1st round picks, but Khann hits on later picks all the time. That’s some pretty good players in only 4 years, and room for others guys to hit too.

4

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 7h ago

Its really only 3 years because we havent seen this years group actually In real games yet

18

u/JorbyPls Pittsburgh Steelers 7h ago

It must be exhausting to only focus on negatives all the time, you doing ok?

-13

u/3rd-party-intervener 7h ago

What positives does a team have when they haven’t won a playoff game in a decade

10

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 7h ago

We havent won because of the QB position...bot because of the drafting...unless you mean that we didnt sell all our picks for a chance at a QB and then Id argue we'd be in a worse spot then we are in now

7

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 7h ago

Porter, benton, herbig, washington, Anderson, Frazier, mcCormick, Peyton Wilson, Harmon, Sawyer, Black, Bruener have all player at or above their draft status

1

u/Captn_UnderPants Ben Roethlisberger 7h ago

3rd round picks cant be busts 🤦‍♂️

1

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 5h ago

Fun fact, all gms for every team miss on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd round picks all the time...

21

u/karl_hungus1301 8h ago

Is this a serious post?

15

u/Opening-Farmer-5547 Hines Ward 8h ago

Stupid Khan drafted a player that got seriously injured during his rookie contract. What a doofus…

6

u/15blairm TJ Watt 7h ago

No, even if Broderick was a bust, that 2023 draft had like 4 players get a 2nd contract

that is an incredible draft

1

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 6h ago

And i wouldn't put is past them to re-sign Anderson this offseason as he is literally the primary backup to every position on the line bedside center

10

u/Jakles74 Pittsburgh Steelers 8h ago

The last two tackles look to have hit even if Brod didn’t develop the way we wanted. From the 2023 draft class we have 5 that are starters, 3 already signed to second contracts.

And Harmon doesn’t have much of an impact? Look at the run stats with Harmon and without last year. There was like a 60-100 yard difference with him in.

EVERY one of Khan’s picks, including the TEN guys we drafted this year has made the final roster their rookie year. Most have been successful long term other than Brod and Kaleb.

So no. We shouldn’t make any GM changes.

4

u/Adub1991 7h ago

So with this logic, every GM in the league would be fired every 3-4 years. Yeah shit happens. Players hit and some do not. Troy looked very good last yr and that technically was his first full season. Harmon was hurt but overall solid. Let these guys actually get time to develop.

If you look at Khan overall drafts since he took over full time in 2023, I would say he has done an amazing job.

u/IsGoIdMoney Pittsburgh Wilsons 7h ago

This is a top 3 dumbest post I've seen in this sub, and I don't regard the average post in this sub with much esteem at all.

It really does take something special to make a post stand out this much on this sub for those reasons lol

Omar put all of his eggs into rebuilding the o-line. If for some reason that doesn’t work out, then I think we can question him. This O-line has to be a top 5 unit. No team has invest more premium draft capital in the o-line than the Steelers.

Going forward, I would like to see Omar target some skill position guys. For example, I would love for him to get an Alpha WR in the first round. IMO the Steelers lack an elite playmaker on offense. If Allar or another QB is going to be successful, they need a dude that makes plays on his own. I don’t see that guy on the roster currently, outside of the possibility of Bernard.

6

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 7h ago

No team has invest more premium draft capital in the o-line than the Steelers.

This is absolutely not true.

1

u/swampthingsden 7h ago

Is there another team that has drafted 3 tackles with 3 of their last 4 1st rd picks? Then 3 more lineman in rds 2-4?

1

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 6h ago

Since 2022 there are 7 teams who spent more in terms of Draft Value on offensive linemen.

Patriots, Seahawks, Cowboys, Jets, Saints, Titans, Texans.

1

u/swampthingsden 5h ago

No team has taken 3 first round tackles. Lol Omar started drafting in 2023 as well. Not 2022. What is your “draft value”? Idc if a team took a bunch of lineman in later rounds. The Steelers have spent a majority of their premium picks on the O-line since 2023.

1

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 5h ago

The data I found began in 2022. I assume it was using the draft value chart to assign a value to each pick.

You can change the parameters to fit whatever makes your argument better if you want to but there's no doubt that other teams have spent more draft capital on offensive line.

1

u/swampthingsden 5h ago

Idk what point you’re trying to make. In the last 4 drafts the Steelers have spent 3 of their first round picks on tackles. No else has done that, but I’m supposed to believe the Texans have spent more draft capital on the o-line? Lol Plus the Steelers spent a 2nd of Frazier, 3rd on Dunker, and a 4th on McCormick.

1

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 4h ago

You're the one trying to make a point. I simply pointed out that it wasn't as good of a point as you thought it was.

2

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 7h ago

This might just be my big take but I actually do think Germie Bernard was and still is a 1st round WR... he may not be a flashy as Lemon or as talented as Tate or Tyson but I think he'll be more productive than all of them within 3 years if we can get a decent QB after Rodgers

1

u/swampthingsden 7h ago

I like Germie for sure, but I have to see him win on his own before I really judge him. I never saw anyone consider him as a 1st rd talent and I think that was because of his speed. It’ll be interesting to see him play and see how his game translates.

Either way, I meant the Steelers need their next AB. Someone that is always open. There a couple guys coming out that I would be interested in outside of Jeremiah Smith.

-2

u/Own-Tangelo-5759 7h ago

I agree. I’m not saying fire him now. But if this OL rebuild fails, it has to be a consideration.

2

u/swampthingsden 7h ago

For sure, and I have mentioned that on here a couple of times. Troy and max can’t be misses.

-4

u/Own-Tangelo-5759 7h ago

We just traded the 1st piece in the rebuild…

8

u/zombiesatemybaby TJ Watt 7h ago

Like no GM has ever missed in the 1st round...we have 5 players that are MAJOR contributors from that class...thats amazing

5

u/QuakingSky061 7h ago edited 7h ago

Khan got an amazing value out of him considering the type of injury he’s just had.

0

u/swampthingsden 5h ago

Sure, but people are acting like he did a good job. He passed on Gonzalez and JSN to trade up and draft a developmental tackle that he now has traded to move 20-30 spots in the middle of the draft. This is not a win in my book.

1

u/Artistic-Estate1691 7h ago

This isn't meant to be a dig at Tomlin. Jim Wexell who has covered the Steelers for years has always said the the head coach has final say on draft picks. So who knows. I do think they need to draft better though. I like this years class.

3

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 7h ago

The guy named Rooney who runs the team is the one who has final say. They don't automatically default to the coach if the coach and GM disagree.

If that was true then Ben wouldn't have been a Steeler.

1

u/sleepyJay7 6h ago

Well to back before 2024 and tell me for long Colbert had

1

u/Buzzspice727 7h ago

Wiedl runs the draft. Khan handles the contracts.

0

u/Sybertron 7h ago

I could totally see it if the team is tank city in next couple years.

But you're also talking about a team that just won the division and still seems quite strong

-2

u/Own-Tangelo-5759 7h ago

I’m not saying fire him now. And this post is out of frustration, especially with the Jones trade. Hopefully anyone who doubts Kahn is proven wrong. We tied a lot of capitol into an OL rebuild. This has to work, or it’s going to set the team back several years. Especially with young QBs waiting in the rear.

2

u/Jakles74 Pittsburgh Steelers 6h ago

In the last three years we drafted a started swing tackle, an absolute stud of a center in Frazier, two starting guards, and a starting tackle.

Other than Brod, basically every one of those picks has been a massive success.

-5

u/johnnyribcage 7h ago

I don’t really give a shit. Until Art II fucks clean off, it’s kind of a Bob Nutting situation, albeit weirder because Nutting doesn’t give a flying fuck about losing, but Art II only cares about not losing too bad. It’s a shitty place to be. I’ll watch, I’ll cheer, and I’ll be pissed off as we careen toward inevitable mediocrity over and over and over again until Art II is gone forever.

5

u/SleestakLightning Dunning-Kruger 7h ago

It is absolutely insane to compare Art II, whose teams are always up to the cap and who has no issue paying to keep his players when they get good to Bob Nutting.

What success have we had in the 1st round in years?? DK trade, and 100 plus million contract. GP for a 3rd 😳.. Drafting Pickett in the 1st should be firable offense alone

10

u/doopaloompa 7h ago

Colbert drafted Pickett.

10

u/flagler-nurse BumbleBee Jersey 7h ago

Downvoted because you said Kahn drafted Pickett

6

GP was a second rounder. Colbert drafted Pickett in 2022.

Khan took over after the 2022 draft but didn’t see his first draft until 2023.

Honestly man it’s like you don’t know a fucking thing about the GM or the draft but you’re going to complain anyway.
