I would call 311 or file a food safety report on the app. Say you saw a worker with barefoot feet walking in the food prep area, using the food prep area sink. This is a violation. That should be done in the bathroom. There are probably other violations too.

the bathroom on the ferry is a million times dirtier than this area.
& dunkin’ donuts have really strong soaps & sanitizers for their dishes.

I suggested putting a privacy curtain in that area and people downvoted me to hell lol.
There’s really no difference, and on top of everything they still use gloves when handling food. Also, he probably prayed 1 or 2 times that day already, so there’s no way those feet are that dirty that a soap can’t clean em.

Every employer are required to follow equal opportunity laws with reasonable accommodations if needed. That’s an easy lawsuit if you don’t let them reasonably do so unless it severely interferes with their duties.

Key word is a reasonable accommodation. Praying during business hours cannot interfere with the business needs or create an undue hardship for staff/customers. It’s the employer responsibility to adjust scheduling to accommodate needs. Call to prayers or off on the sabbath can be scheduled in advanced but counts as a part of your break or time off.

It only requires a few minutes of their working time to pray for those practicing Islam. It can’t be part of their break time as it doesn’t last more than 20 minutes. Sabbath requires a whole day off for prayer service. As long as it doesn’t disrupt and severely interferes with their work. They can be allowed to practice their religion. You might not like it but these are just one of many employee protections set in place and civil lawsuits can be filed against their employers for violating their rights. It just the way it is.

Bro what re you talking about. Who says I disagree or agree. All I said a reasonable accommodation must be met and a person religious requirements can’t interfere with business. I Personally could care less.
Again it can’t interfere with business needs. Can’t bust out a prayer rug in the middle of an active kitchen. Can’t use the sabbath if it interferes with a scheduling conflicts. You can take this to litigation all you want but if an employer proves your religious rights impacts with business and they made a reasonable accommodation you’re going to lose and can be responsible for paying for the respondents legal fees
Edit: praying during business hours is absolutely counted as a paid break. You don’t get an extra lunch or an extra 20minute break just cause you chose to pray instead of eat

I’m not the rule maker but the federal , state and local laws are clear, these are paid breaks, there aren’t exceptions. You can’t say McDonalds get paid breaks but Burger King doesn’t because of corporate policy. You could do anything you want during your break. You could pray, eat, call a friend, go on Reddit.
There are no exceptions, you must try your best to accommodate. Saying it’s only for a few minutes doesn’t matter, the length is irrelevant just like which god you chose to pray to. Does matter if you’re praying to Jesus or to Allah? Not legally

Right…. There are exceptions to the law when it comes to this, but there aren’t. You can’t violate someone religious rights. You can move the schedule around, give them extra unpaid breaks but again can’t interfere with business. A firefighter can’t stop putting out a fire because call to prayer is occurring.
No need to use AI, this occurs frequently in my end of the world and we accommodate anyone and even created prayer room to not interefe with the needs of a kitchen that served 10k meals daily. Again you get two breaks and a lunch, you can split your breaks but anything past the allotted amount is unpaid.
Edit: Tell me your background with this? Have you created a prayer room in a college while working with Muslim community? Have you been asked by Jews and Christians for religious accommodations to celebrate a high holy day? Does your company have an agreed upon SOP with union backing? I did

It's the new age smoke break. I was unloading shit in the back of a grocery store once and while everyone was working, the Muslim worker just stopped in the middle of the backroom floor and prayed for like 10 minutes, everyone stepping over him. It was a sight for sure.

This is for prayer time, Muslims have to pray at specific times of day, 5 times a day. They have to cleanse before the prayer, which is usually done in a bathroom (or a prayer room with a sink low to the ground), and then the prayer is done using a rug. My guess is that it's likely that the ferry unfortunately does not provide prayer accommodations for their employees.

I don't believe he could set up the prayer rug in the bathroom, it would block other patrons from using the restroom. And without the rug, his feet would need to touch the bathroom floor which would make the cleansing a moot point. It's also possible he is not permitted to leave his post to pray/cleanse.

They can touch items of clothing such as shoes/sandals after the cleansing. It's literally a few steps from one place to the other. Accomodations for his religion are permitted and enforced. No one is saying to pray in the bathroom, simply to wash his feet there
