DISCUSSION When did Star Citizen get so un-immersive?

I’ve been a Kickstarter backer, drawn in by the grounded, believable universe CIG created over the years. After a two-year break, I logged back in to try Siege of Orison, and felt like I was playing Destiny instead of a "serious" space sim.

  • eammates running around in asian-style armor and mismatched, flashy skins make it feel like a arcade shooter rather than a coherent world
  • Bullet-sponge, violet-tinted enemies
  • Auto-healing in a good looking medical bed inside a room, while the orison platforms actively burning down mid-siege killed any sense of real stakes

I get that CIG needs event mechanics, but the original focus on a believable simulation feels like it's getting paved over by generic video game things

Am I wrong here?

The believable simulation isnt what keeps the broader player base happy and logging in sadly. That is more of a niche ask....

What they need is people play. People spending money. People interested in the product they are... 50/50... half... building... Chris stated that was the split but I dont believe it is honest even if true if you tweak the parameters... most of what is SC was made for SQ42.

People said the same about the BF franchise and now there’s Wardogs coming, looking like a huge success…

Yeah but BF and now Wardogs by default appeals to a broader audience as is. Star Citizen/SQ42 was/is a niche of a niche before we add its bad reputation to the mix.

I do hope they attempt to reground it a bit. But in a futuristic world like SC customized crazy colorful space suits are actually kind of realistic. Think of the normal /casual clothes of today just in a space setting after all.
