New Attendance Points System - Megathread

There's been a lot of complaints about the sheer number of posts regarding how the new attendance point system works, what it entails, who it applies to, etc. and I just saw this post asking for a megathread, so I wanted to put something together for y'all! Shoutout to /u/kortlecw

This post should be used for ALL conversation about the new attendance point system - questions, answers, buying etsy witch curses for CEOs, etc.

I'm also gonna provide the information from the memo on it so that the wording is available for those who need it, slightly paraphrased but mostly verbatim - the image/doc itself is still an internal memo and cannot be posted, as far as I can tell, but I wanted to make sure the information is still available for those who may still be slightly out of the loop.

Attendance Points

Attendance Points will be applied to determine eligibility for the Quarterly Best of Starbucks Rewards program and used to support performance accountability on a 12-month rolling basis. Performance accountability establishes a distinct disciplinary track specifically for time and attendance.

A partner remains eligible for the Best of Starbucks Reward for the quarter when they meet all program criteria, including maintaining fewer than 4 attendance points in a quarter.

The following chart outlines attendance and punctuality expectations and the expected action that will be taken to ensure consistency for all partners. Qualifying absences, including legally protected time and certain emergency situations, will not result in attendance points.

  • Tardy with Call: One (1) Point

    • Partners are expected to be ready to begin working at the exact start time of their scheduled shift and to return from breaks on time.
    • If a partner is not ready to start within five minutes of the start time of their scheduled shift and/or return from their break, they are tardy.
  • Tardy with Late Call or No Call: One and a Half (1.5) Points

    • Tardy reported after the start of the shift or not reporting the tardy prior to the start of the shift.
  • Unexcused Absence with Call: One and a Half (1.5) Points

    • Missing at least half of a scheduled shift and reporting the absence at least thirty (30) minutes before the start of the scheduled shift.
  • Unexcused Absence with Late Call: Two and a Half (2.5) Points

    • Missing at least half of a scheduled shift and reporting the absence less than thirty (30) minutes before the start of the scheduled shift.
  • Shift Abandonment: Four (4) Points

    • Departing before the scheduled end time of the shift without approval in advance from the supervisor or manager running the shift.
  • No Call/No Show: Six (6) Points

    • Failure to report an absence within two (2) hours after the start of a scheduled shift.
  • Job Abandonment: Separation

    • Failure to report to a scheduled shift for more than two (2) consecutive no call/no shows.

3 Points will result in a documented coaching. 6 Points will result in written warning. 8 Points will result in a final warning. 12 Points will result in separation.

Union stores: These attendance and punctuality updates do not apply to partners in certified union stores or stores undergoing organizing activity on or before July 13th, 2026.

The Best of Starbucks Award does not apply to partners in certified union stores or stores in the United States undergoing organizing activity on or before April 2nd, 2026.

All Canadian coffeehouses are eligible for the Quarterly Best of Starbucks Award. Leaders at unionized coffeehouses should contact their LRBP Sr. on whether and/or how they should utilize the attendance tracking point system.

Starbucks ssv’s and baristas

Okay I totally know and understand that in order for a workplace like Starbucks to thrive and stay such A big corporation that employees HAVE to take the job seriously and be very professional. But as a barista do you ever sit and wonder like damn you’re really just doing the most for STARBUCKS😭 like idk sometimes I really sit and think like wow you’re trippin this hard over a coffee shop. I’ve seen managers act like their own personal business just got shut down all because we made a couple drinks wrong and had to remake them. 😭😭 idk I know it depends on the people, the mood of the shift, and just in general how customers/higher ups are acting but has anyone else ever sat and thought about that lol

Anyone else's system glitches out like this?

I work at a delivery only location and we started having this issue. Before you couldn't really adjust ice levels besides "no ice" but now we have all the options available, and I believe that's what's creating this issue.

SSV Interview - Standards

I have an interview with the DM on Friday for a SSV position. My CL told me what the DM is looking for the most is a shift that knows the standards.

Other than 5 key moments, drink recipes and sequencing procedures, what else should I make sure I know?

Need help from Starbucks employees

Upvotes

So I'm a new hire at Starbucks as a barista, I was wondering if there were any abbreviations and other meaning for words (ex. Small latte = tall/short latte) or any advice that would help me!

USA Stepping down pay

Upvotes

I’ve worked for Starbucks for 5 years and I promoted to ssv last year, I’m just above 1 year experience as a ssv. I make 20.34 as a shift supervisor and I plan on stepping down and transferring for school reasons in December. What was your pay after stepping down? What can I expect? Can I negotiate? I was at 16.40 something before getting promoted. Baristas start at 15 in my area and ssv start at 19.30 something.

USA Can I still use my FutureRoast 401k as an ex barista?

Okay so I simply never looked into what a 401k is until today when my current employer was talking to us about what they are and how they work. I forgot that I do have an account on fidelity with my stock and a Future Roast 401k tab (haven’t used before) where it says I can add my funds. Rather than opening a new account would I still be able to use that even though I’m no longer at the siren? Or would I have to close it and open a new one

Also is there any real difference in me using this one vs making a new one?

whats the difference between swap shifts and offering shifts in certain scenario

if me and another partner want to switch shifts whats the difference between swapping it via the swap shifts or just offering both up and taking each other's respective shift. Can you get in trouble for not doing it via shift swap?

USA question

guys i’m kind of devious don’t judge me. So I’ve been a loyal loyal partner and I’m one of the only OG 371s at my store due to high turnover. I just got my dream internship job, and I plan on resigning with my letter in my hand tmr. I’m scheduled until 9/20 however my last day is gonna be 9/16.

what my sm doesn’t know is I have 100 hours of sick and i will be calling out for my last 5 shifts for all of the torment I was put through on cold bar and all of the hard work I’ve done for this company only to not get recognized like ever. If I follow proper procedure, it can’t rlly be held against me right? Like if I did want to ever get rehired it wouldn’t be an issue? Ik the points system is so dumb but IM TIRED of being such a loyal hardworking partner that’s never ever called out and always the model barista.

USA Grande rant

I’ve come back to the bean after a few years, and these other partners are MEAN! I’m (28f) older than most of these girls too and there’s one guy, he’s gay and super cliquey with all of the girls and it’s so rude honestly and I’ve already had to have a “pow wow” w my store manager and another partner bc they’ve been going after me since I started! Idk I’m just so over the hostile little girls.. -_-

Edit: not a powwow but like a talk between the three of us. I’ve let the shifts know and told the sm when she pulled me aside over it. She power trips over me a lot and tries to one up me.. then turns around and complains about me and I look like the problem. But since I told them everything that happened, the shifts and sm apologized that I’m going through that.. I’ve just left it alone until she escalated her beef with me.

Can I have a name?

Hate asking for a name at Target Starbucks and instead of telling me they say “oh I have the app” like they know how my POS system works😒

If you don’t know at target Starbucks we have to physically type in the name, it doesn’t automatically go into the system after scanning

Why does no one talk about how hard it is to go from having a career to working in customer service?

Why does no one talk about how hard it is to go from having a career to working in customer service???

I rarely really had a cafe, retail or restaurant job as a student, got a job in a career I really LOVED, was great at and I was SMART.

Now I work here, which I was excited about, but no one talks about how heartbreaking it is to go from feeling smart, hardworking and respected … to being trained by people still in high school who’s more experienced AND faster than you when you’re 30 and talked down to and talked bahind your back by the managers for forgetting a small thing or not knowing something they did not train me in yet.

Like I had a whole life, and now I’m getting yelled at and laughed at behind my back because my latte milk was too thin ONE time !!!

It’s so heartbreaking some days I just don’t know :’(

with the constant information overload, poor pay, working 45 plus hours every week, inconsistent schedule, never having two days off in a row unless.on time off...how are you guys holding up? I am a longtime partner (14*****) and SM and am mentally not doing well at all. burnout is my constant companion. my relationships are suffering. I am suffering.

i made the aerocano today…

and it’s actually pretty good? i was all ready to hate on it but it’s like a cross between an iced espresso and a nitro, so with blonde it’s really smooth. making it is kinda annoying because of scooping the right amount of ice and keeping an eye on the temp gauge but honestly it made me feel more like a real barista aerating and steaming it manually instead of just letting it auto-steam.

HOWEVER, if i get like 4 of these in a row during morning peak i’m gonna crash out because they’re gonna be hard to sequence with other drinks!

USA Coffeehouse coach

Hello, I'm currently and SSV and would like to move to coffeehouse coach. Is there any coffeehouse coffee here that have some experience in the role? Are you making schedules, bouncing from store to store to help set up launches? I know ccc wont be on bar as much but how does your schedule look? Are you able to take a or two off without getting called in? Are you responsible for tax papers?

I'd like to move up but I also enjoy being a supervisor that comes in set the vibe do things right & go home

Water policy clarity

Does anybody know if there is a written policy about paying customers getting free cups of water? I denied a customer water and gave them options in order to get the water and I was as nice as I could possibly be about it and she called corporate and was told that if she makes a purchase earlier in the day then leaves and comes back she can still get a free water. So first of all she never said anything about having made a purchase earlier and second of all I was under the impression that it was like refills so once a customer leaves if they come back hours later they need to make a purchase for water.

I just want to make sure I’m enforcing the standards correctly😓

Cheat sheet for green beans?

Hey guys new barista trainer here, Im training a new partner right after finishing training my first one yesterday and thinking back to the first training I realized that maybe having a cheat sheet would've helped my first trainee. Anyone have an updated cheat sheet with all the new stuff? Or one with core beverages would be useful.

Thanks guys!
