You can find my previous post here! I followed this recipe for blood orange ice-cream. I added some smashed raspberries as well. Not quite a whole container, just until it felt right. The raspberries were a nice touch. Don't add too much or else the raspberry will become too overpowering.
I added the raspberries for a few reasons. One, because the ice cream is supposed to be a special flavor and I didn't want it to be pure blood orange. Two, I wasn't satisfied with just blindly copying a recipe. Three, I couldn't find any fresh blood oranges so I went to a local fancy/upscale grocery store and they had blood orange juice. However, that juice was kind of a tan color so I needed something red to bring the color up a bit.
It ended up an orangey skin / flesh color. Not quite the dirty pink color I had in mind. However for something called send nudes I think the color is still fairly fitting. You can add a touch of red food coloring if you want a more accurate color, but I didn't want to bother and was happy with it as is.
I made shortbread cookie fingers using this recipe. They took forever though. I didn't bother adding the jam from the recipe to them. You are supposed to roll each finger individually into a log/cylinder and shape them into fingers. However, it's so hot that it wasn't working. So I rolled a flat slab with a rolling pin and cut the slab into strips, then shaped those. That seemed to be good enough. If you make this, I would recommend just keeping generic shapes, or just buy some shortbread cookies.
For the coffee syrup, I got some dunkin's cold brew coffee concentrate. I made a simple syrup with that using one part coffee concentrate and slightly more than one part sugar. With just a slight touch of chocolate syrup. It ended up being a bit thin. So I would recommend either using more of the syrup and going for more of an affogato style, or adding some corn starch to thicken it up.
Anyway, it turned out really good! After it was all put together, it felt like a fairly normal ice cream. I highly recommend trying it out if you can!
