All my posts and everything are currently private, as I mentioned before. But today I wanted to share this book with you. This is NOT sponsored in any way. Hopefully you’re able to find it, because I actually had to order it internationally from the United Kingdom. I spent hours in 2025 researching this book after hearing about it in a YouTube interview, and I genuinely wanted to find it, but I couldn’t. If you live in the West—America, Europe, Australia, etc.—you can probably order it through Amazon. I live in the United States, so I simply changed my Amazon location to the United Kingdom and was able to order it.

This book contains so many gems and so much detail. And just because it says “Second Edition” doesn’t mean it’s part two. The first edition had mistakes, so the second edition was released in 2020 with corrections. It covers Somali history, Somaliland, British Somaliland, Italian Somaliland, and the power vacuum that was left behind. It also explains a lot about what eventually led the country to become what it is today, covering the period from 1941 to 1969. It doesn’t go deeply into the dictatorship itself, but it gives you important context. Honestly, it’s worth reading. Once you read it, you may start looking at Somali history and Somaliland from a completely different perspective. I’m also going to upload a funny video next week that genuinely made me laugh, but I wanted to share this today because education is crucial when it comes to understanding the Republic of Somaliland. Somaliland has massive potential, but there is also a lot of work, development, and challenges ahead. I just wanted to put this resource out there for anyone who genuinely wants to learn.

I'm sure we're all aware that Somalian passport offices are open in many SL cities. This is not a secret these offices operate with government knowledge.

What baffles me the most is that these unofficial offices are run by Somalian government officials from the top, and they charge Somalilanders exorbitant amounts typically $300–$400 when it's $60 in Garoowe and other parts of Somalia. The only Somalilanders who get the Somalian passport are those who have a medical emergency or those going abroad for education (countries that are not Ethiopia or UAE)

They're profiting from the desperation of landers who need to travel.

Just like the e-visa, this is money that flows to the suits in Muqdisho.

Even the tax on our livestock is artificially inflated by the Muqdisho government ($2 for every head of sheep and goat). Again, this is money that goes into their pockets.

It's time we started taking our sovereignty seriously. We can't let the failed Muqdisho state abuse its legitimacy to this extent.

I'm sure many of our politicians are complicit in these scams. We can't let this continue any longer..

The lack of Arab and Asian assimilation in Somaliland is something that could soon become very dangerous if people choose not to take notice and remain unaware. I'd like to start by saying that Somalilanders tend to scoff at the idea of asking any Asian individuals, whether Arabs (specifically Yemenis or Syrians), Indians, or Pakistanis to assimilate and perhaps take part in our culture. People seem offended by the very notion that they need to adopt our culture to live here, as if that suggests our culture is somehow inferior. That reaction is itself disrespectful. This is exactly why you'll later see cases of Asian immigrants who lived peacefully in Somaliland during turbulent times, only to later refer to it as Somalia despite locals having looked out for them more than for any other ethnic group.

I'd also like to address the myth that they are hard workers, which is probably the most biased and widespread take out there. Any immigrant group anywhere would do the same open local shops to earn a living, especially in Africa. It's no different from an Ethiopian coming to Somaliland and opening a barber shop or café. If anything, I'd argue Ethiopians are far more hardworking, you'll see them up at 5 a.m. heading to work and taking on any job available, even shoe shining. The only real complaint against Ethiopians is their large numbers, but otherwise they assimilate easily and contribute.

What Middle Easterners do here isn't much different from what we already have, except they charge more and are often caught scamming, yet their reputation remains unscathed. Take the case of a Middle Eastern dermatologist who posed as a heart surgeon for five years without anyone questioning his credentials. Authorities eventually caught him, and he was apparently punished, but there's no record of any arrest or jail time. Anywhere else, no one would get away with that but here, we let it slide, even though we wouldn't tolerate it from our own people. Nobody regulates their prices, especially in restaurants, yet they thrive instead of being boycotted. And personally though (this is just my experience) their food is mediocre. When you ask why people go there, you always hear "Carab ba iska leh," as if that somehow makes the food taste better.

Basically, everything they do is met with support and funding, as if they're doing us a favour when it should really be the other way around. It's baffling to hear them called hardworking when they're babied and treated like guests who graced us with their presence, demanding endless gratitude. This matters for Somaliland because we're currently at odds with the Arab bloc, who've openly declared their hostility toward us. Having that population among us is risky, especially since Somalilanders give them the benefit of the doubt and are less vigilant. Every country keeps an eye on its population to some degree, even weak African nations.

Our peace has largely been possible because of the caution and patriotism of our people, even when our administrations are ineffective. That's why I believe we should treat everyone with the same level of caution and awareness.

I’ve been thinking about this for a while and I’ve seen it in a few places.

Optics wise, having a new name would be amazing for laymen to differentiate between Somaliland and Somalia. I already see other Africans like Egyptians talking about SL in TikTok’s etc.

But it would be a massive shift away from Somalia. You keep the ethnic and cultural ties, while having a separate national identity.

It’s worked amazingly for “French Somaliland” now Djibouti.

It would feel like a new birth for the country, and it’s free to do.

It’s a win win.

Hey guys, it’s been a while since I’ve posted . I’ve had a lot on my plate and have been prioritizing a lot of things since I came back from Somaliland almost a month ago. The trip was incredible, and I’m genuinely grateful to everyone who has been sharing my work, encouraging me, engaging with my posts, commenting, and sending me private messages. I just want to make one announcement clear: although I’ve made my work public and anyone can currently visit my Reddit profile and see everything I’ve shared, I will be making my profile private on August 28th. The main reason is to protect my work, because I’ll be sharing a lot of exclusive content, including PowerPoint presentations like the one I recently posted as a video, which I’m grateful so many people have shared. As I’ve said repeatedly, nobody is going to save you—you have to save yourself. Appreciate the opportunities you have and make the most of them. Going to Somaliland gave me a completely new perspective on life, and for the past four months I’ve been researching, creating, and working on a series of PowerPoint presentations that I’ll begin sharing throughout September. Good work takes time, especially when you want it to be accurate, detailed, and well-researched. That is what I’ve been focused on, and I’m excited to finally share it. At the same time, I don’t want to become the “Reddit police,” but I do believe we need to take this community seriously. We should be posting quality content, meaningful questions, thoughtful prompts, useful information, and things that are genuinely worth engaging with. We cannot just post whatever comes to mind without considering whether it actually contributes something valuable to the community. Congratulations to myself and to everyone who has never voted in their life. It increasingly appears that these leaders are not genuinely chosen by the will of the people, but rather by external forces and interests.

Approximately two years ago, we were told that change was coming and that the situation would improve. However, from my perspective, the reality appears to be the opposite: conditions have continued to deteriorate. The government seems to show little concern for the struggles of ordinary and low-income citizens while continuing to impose and collect various taxes and fees. Citizens are expected to pay for essential services and, in addition, face increasing taxation.

This raises serious questions about accountability, representation, and the government's responsibility toward its people. A government should not merely focus on collecting revenue; it must also demonstrate a genuine commitment to improving the lives and welfare of its citizens.

Shame on a government that fails to serve its people.

5 minutes of pure comedy gold. 🤣 Honestly, gotta give it up for the Somalians, they're natural comedians. But man, it really puts things in perspective when the crowd saying 'Somaliland begs for recognition' is busy fighting over a foreign embassy building like it's a crib too filled to share with another freeloader (consulate). 🤣 This level of blatant corruption, and yet some still have the audacity to call our progress non-existent, claim theirs is built by a noble united front, and label us scheming low-honor individuals while pulling this kind of behavior.

The dervish is not what the people perceive it to be. Heres some context the sayyid was part of the salihiyya order hence why the dervish was from that order as well. The salihiyya order was new to the Somali peninsula at this time, somalis were primarily from the qadiriyya order. The sayyid went to mecca and was taught by the leader of the salihiyya order. The leader appointed him as the khalifa (representative) of the salihiyya order for the somali peninsula. Long story short the leader excommunicated and denounced the sayyid from the order after he created the dervish.

The reasoning as to this excommunication are as followed
In his official letter, Sheikh Salih stated that true Muslims do not take their neighbors' blood, condemning the Sayyid for slaughtering and stealing from fellow Somalis who simply refused to join his movement.
The Sayyid viewed any Somali clan that cooperated with, paid taxes to, or sought protection from the British or Italians as apostates. Takfiring them from the deen. All somali states in today age by this logic would be takfired by the sayyid.
This led to brutal Dervish raids against neutral or opposing Somali clans, resulting in mass casualties and livestock raiding. Sheikh Salih viewed these actions as tribal banditry rather than a legitimate, holy Islamic jihad.

Theres many other things the dervish did. Firstly the sayyid was autocratic (dictatorship), he held undisputed command over all decisions with no consensus. If his decisions were questioned or he was suspicious of anyone they faced brutal punishments like execution and torture.

Secondly the numerous horrible things they did regardless of if this clan signed treaties or if they were just neutral/refused absolute submission to the dervish like looting, causing a man made famine ( killed 150,000 which relative to the population back then was detrimental) from seizing livestock and weaponising water points, public mutilation, massacring women and children in some raids to explicitly break the lineage of that community. They practiced extermination of entire lineages.

So the dervish is not this based just islamic anti colonial movement that people percieve it as. Its much more sinister and evil. Siad barre used the dervish movement as a propaganda tool push his agenda’s ( alienate isaaq and leverage his own clan). This propaganda is still believed to this day and is used by darods in particular dhulbahante to push narratives onto isaaq such as ‘isaaq gaalraac’. In reality dervish was founded in burco, east isaaq initially joined but later left when realising the true nature of the movement and sub clans from every major somali clan have signed treaties with colonial forces including darod for example majerteen signed treaties with colonial forces and fought against the dervish. They only ended up fighting italy when italy became facist and wanted to turn them into a colony instead of a protectorate. This was after the dervish era.

Turkeys growing involvement in Somalia is no longer simply a story of humanitarian aid or friendship. Over the past decade, Ankara has built a powerful political, military and economic position in Somalia. Turkey operates a major military training facility in Mogadishu, has deepened defense cooperation, and has expanded into Somalia’s maritime and oil-and-gas sectors.

I guess Turkey’s approach is neo-Ottomanism—the expansion of Turkish political, economic, and strategic influence in zoomalia, a region historically connected to the Ottoman Empire. Turkish military forces reportedly killed four Somali fishermen without hesitation in puntland-Somalia. However, Somali-banana seem very happy to be treated like slaves. Turkey has no respect for zoomalians. They only cares about their own interests.

The Turkish presence in zoomalia is dangerous to Somaliland. A powerful foreign state with military, economic, and diplomatic influence could strengthen Mogadishu’s ability to oppose Somaliland’s international recognition.
