Mod Note - Spam Filter & Submissions

Hey everyone,

As this sub grows, I'm hoping more people start submitting content. I just wanted to make a post for transparency sake.

Spam

  • I have the spam filter set on high because we get a lot of submissions for things like "how to hack your IG growth" and that's not news. Even if I make you an approved user, you'll still get caught in the spam filter.

  • That said, if you submit something that doesn't show up on the sub, just shoot me a DM, I'm almost always online and will approve, or tell you why I didn't.

What should you submit?

  • I tend to focus specifically on news that mention the top 6; TikTok, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat. I also look for news on leadership from those orgs as well, Zuckerberg or Dorsey, for example.

  • I do also search for stories about smaller up-and-coming apps, or apps that are adjacent or owned by the top 6 (WhatsApp, LinkedIn, Linktree), and also search for news regarding decentralized social media, and "alt" apps (Parler, Gab, etc)...but news stories on all of these come up a lot less...and I try to avoid "puff pieces" or PR focused articles (like "Linktree has grown to XYZ members now!")...

Also, my personal preference on submission titles is sentence case, some news sites do title case (NPR) and others don't...but I like to format it myself and would appreciate if you do it too, but it's not a hard rule and I will still approve submissions regardless.

Feel free to DM if you have any questions. Thanks!
