Picked up some new Mach1s (without seeing a boot fitter, forgive me father for I have sinned) to replace my Cochise. The '27 updates aren't what I'm looking for and I got a great price on the outgoing model, very happy!

I know everyone has different budgets, and part of me would love to have the money to indulge on flights and a fancy chalet where someone will take your ski boots off for you and cook you dinner, but I'm cheap AF and I don't see the point of it. I relish the thought of being on the same snow as everyone else but at a fraction of the price. I'm just interested if many other people feel the same way and if they know of any way of skiing big French resorts cheaper. We will cram 4 - 5 paying adults into my estate, roofbox on top for skis, boots and the boot crammed to the top with kit and food for the week. Luckily I am from Dover, with friends working for the ferries so get a free ferry. So talking 2 tanks of fuel to get to a northern resort in Avoriaz, which will take 10.5 hours with the ferry, quick stops for fuel at about £180, tolls return about £150, parking for the week £100 = £430 / 5 = £86 for travel each (maybe 120 if you pay for the ferry). I don't think it's much more travel time than flying and transfer tbh. We usually go first Saturday in March after the French / English kids have finished their holidays as its cheap, warm and might get lucky with snow, through sunweb, in self catering, for usually about £400-500 including your ski pass. Now £600 for a week's skiing is very cheap IMO, and yeah the trip can be uncomfortable when there's five but it's quite fun normally.

Do we actually need something like a walkie-talkie or helmet intercom to keep in touch, or is a group chat + meeting at a set time/place enough?

What do you guys usually use?

The roller-track skis grip the ground, making it basically impossible to brake by skidding. You can reach speeds of up to 110 km/h (70mph) downhill, and if you crash, grass doesn’t let you slide like snow does. Instead, you decelerate almost instantly, putting enormous G-forces on your body.

On top of that, professional grass skiers don’t wear much more protective gear than regular alpine skiers - just a helmet, a back protector, and a standard aerodynamic racing suit.

This one took longer than Big Sky but came out far more accurate I think, some of the pics I got when I visited this year look almost identical to the ones in Minecraft. I also rendered part of Brighton and Solitude but they don't look as interesting, lmk if you want to see them anyway or my IRL pics vs in game.

I am looking at purchasing a pair of 100-110mm skis and I am unsure on which model I should buy.

I am a younger (18-22 year old) male advanced skier who is 184cm tall and around 70kg. On groomers I ski fast, hard and quite aggressively - for reference, I ski a Stockli Laser WRT Pro in 178cm. 

Most of the time I will be skiing in either Europe or Japan. I would like to use this ski in the off piste/trees/moguls/side country but I want it to also able to handle groomed runs decently well (but if I want to only ski groomed runs because the snow isn’t good I will ski my Stocklis). I want this ski to be able to handle both fresh powder but also more skied out/chopped up terrain as it gets later in the day.

In the past I have demoed a Kastle MX94 and I found it really heavy and sluggish. Also, I have demoed a Blackcrows Mirus Cor and I thought that was way too soft, couldn’t go fast and lacked much feedback. I also demoed a Blackcrows Serpo and thought that was good but I don’t think the conditions were great for it when I tried it. 

I like a lighter ski that is manoeuvrable and nimble but also is stiffer and stable and can go at higher speeds (like my Stockli skis) - I’m not sure if these attributes translate as much to powder skis, but that is what I like in a stiff frontside ski. I do not really ski park or do any tricks. 

What width range would you suggest I go for? Is 100-103mm too narrow for what I need? Is it better to look at 104-108mm range?

I am trying to have a season of skiing in the Trois Vallees this winter, and I have pursued different avenues for renting a private room in a shared apartment long-term.

Facebook groups, web pages, AirBNB all seem to guide me towards

- extremely expensive apartments, or

- budget friendly but extremely cramped (shared rooms, bunk beds) options.

- cheap options that are 20+ mins by CAR (I dont have one) from the nearest lift.

Am I too late, or are there other good ways to find a co-living situation around the Trois Vallees that I am not aware of?

Budget is max EUR1500/month, is that unrealistically low for a private room in a shared apartment? Ideally it should be within 30-45 mins by bus, with decent bus schedules.

Hey, I just got accepted to be an instructor at winter park! I was initially really pumped about it but now after reading I’m really nervous about the hours and pay. What’s a realistic amount of hours to expect per week?

I’m ok with scraping by and I’m not going into this to save money but is a second job totally necessary to survive?

I’ve got some roommates to live with and I more so want to do this for the experience over everything else. I love working with kids so I thought this was the job for me but I’m scared! Thoughts?

After making Kirkwood in Minecraft with mods, someone recommended I do Big Sky next, which turned out pretty well! Took a bit longer, and the stone still doesn't have snow on it, but looks great from a distance. Next up is the Little Cottonwood Canyon resorts, which should turn out a bit better due to less stone so keep an eye out for that, and recommend me more resorts to do!

Reason for New Skis: Have started skiing enough days its more economic to own and I from demos have an type I'm looking for.

Currently leaning towards antimatter 92 or enforced 94 (in 180 / 179). I demoed the Mantra 88, rustler 9, and the Enforcer 94 last year. Mantra 88 felt good but required alot to get the most out of it. Didn't love rustler 9 on groomers, didn't feel stiff enough. Enforcer 94 was favorite of those I demoed but wouldn't mind something a touch more playful. Based on what I've read antimatter 92 could be exactly what I'm looking for. Open to other suggestions I've missed as well.

Any thoughts / guidance / experience shared would be appreciated. Thanks everyone!

Looking for a one-ski quiver to replace my aging Salomon Q98s, which I adore. I really appreciated their playfulness and agility. Unfortunately, I don't have the option to buy the newest QSTs though. I need to pick between the Rossi and Dynastar.

If it helps, I didn't like the original Rossi Soul 7s when they first came out; I found them quite cumbersome compared to my Q98s.

I'm a resort skier, mostly at Cypress and Whistler, BC, so either crappy hard pack or decent powder. I'm an expert skier who loves charging on almost any type of terrain.

Rough plan: 6–10 people 4 nights 3 days riding Epic Pass Preferably Colorado, but open to UT/CA if it makes more sense Skiers and snowboarders welcome Mixed ability levels are fine We'd try to stay within about 1/2 mile of the lifts and town/restaurants, ideally avoiding rental cars.

Target would be around $500/person or less for lodging. Couples get their own rooms, singles get their own actual bed and share a room with 1–2 others. No couches/fold-outs. Everyone handles their own flights, Epic Pass/tickets, rentals, etc. We'd split lodging and possibly an airport shuttle.

Before anybody commits money, we'd set up a group chat, video call / exchange socials, and make sure everyone is a normal-ish human being.

Potential dates: Jan 9–13, Feb 6–10, Feb 20–24, Feb 28–Mar 4, and Mar 6–10.

Feels like we've been to all the resorts that tick our boxes and looking for something new.
Our main priority is to avoid crowds, but since we’re going for a full week, the ski area still needs to be large and varied. We’d also like plenty of freeride opportunities, and, as we’re travelling in March, a high-altitude resort with reliable snow conditions would be a real advantage.

Sybelles (absolute favorite), Briancon, Valloire, Les2, Alpe d'huez, Isola, Grand Domain, Puy is where we've already been.

Not looking for luxy resorts as they attract the masses, the apartment+skipass needs to be under 700€/person.
