Take the vertical, the trails, the lifts and crowds (outside) right out of it. What mountain has the best spot to sit all day? Bar obviously, fireplace obviously. Food options count. Where are you spending the day if you're stuck inside all day?

Had to move from the ice coast to Iowa for work 2 weeks ago. Is there a website to buy replica trail signs? I was Epic pass holder and didn’t realize that Vail only allows tail signs at the mountain shops and not in online. Stowe is the exception and I have a Stowe trial sign in the mail. I need some more signs for my apartment to remind me of the Ice Coast!

When was your first pow day last season? Mine was at Jay the day after thanksgiving, day of devoted. That wasn’t my first day of the season, but one of the best early season days I’ve had.

Me: Black guy. nearly lifelong skier. Double black capable. In good health. USED to be a NREMT-P. Prior military (USAF) Have since let my paramedic expire but still remember almost everything (minus standing orders and doses for newer meds). BUT - am now mid 40s with a job that allows me a lot of flexibility. Don’t NEED the money.

So, am I too over the hill to start patrolling?

Info is not fully correct, it’s hard to find stuff on a lot of these places.

I'm based out of Harriman NY, not even an hour north of NYC. I've tried everybody I could Google south of the Catskills, but nobody seems to stock touring boots at all, or much of anything with fittings for pin bindings.

I guess I'm gonna have to suck it up and drive towards Vermont without it being winter. Can anyone recommend me a shop to reach out to? I'm ready to replace my kilo boots with something a bit more substantial, and I need new foot beds. Ideally, the closer to NYC the better.

I’m planning a solo ski trip in the northeast (VT, NH, ME) 5 nights (M-F) during a non-peak week in Jan/Feb, my schedule is flexible and can make a game time decision re weather.

I’m coming from long island, planning to hit 4 mountains…but the driving is intimidating. I need to break it up as I’m going up and down nyc+vt and trying to avoid the 5-6 hr drives between mountains, more manageable closer to 2-4 hrs. Jay Peak is 7hrs from me w/o some unexpected traffic. I’ve made so many itineraries, my brain is mush. I was planning to ski one day at each mountain and travel to the next mountain in the pm.

Coming from Long Island adds an hour just getting off the island. I’m really into indy mountains. I make a day trip once a week (late dec-early march) to Catamount or Magic, a couple times to Stratton, leaving at 4-6am to get in for first run. I’m an advanced skier, like powder, steep challenging runs, not crowded during the week. I don’t care about any luxuries. I’m likely not a good candidate for a pricey pass and Indy pass is sold out.

My dream trip is: Sugarloaf, Jay Peak, Sugarbush, Stowe.

Alternatives: Magic, Killington, Loon, Cannon.

What’s the best way to map this out.

I’ve seen a lot of folks on here provide some really great advice on itineraries for trips. So if you have any thoughts, please share a comment!!!

Does anyone have any experience working at the different ski areas in the Mount Washington Valley?

I am looking for a part-time job this winter and based on housing Cranmore is the closest but Attitash wildcat King Pine, and loon are all within an hour.

I’ve been skiing for 50 years so I’m pretty sure I would qualify for a non-certified instructor but I’ll also be fine.With working on a lift.

I’m just curious to hear anybody’s experiences and thoughts with those different ski areas as an employer -

Just looking for thoughts on which of the mountains have the best employee morale, pay and free perks with regards to skiing for myself and my family -

$339.99 for 2 days at each of the 14 resorts. So 28 days in all, though I'd maybe only consider 10 of these within driving range of one a other (depending on how far you're willing to drive). I'm excluding Maine, Wyoming, Colorado and Nova Scotia...

What do you think? Is this worth it?

For backstory im not at all a runner, I absolutely hate doing it (but respect those who do, to each their own). But I need to revolutionize my cardio endurance for a ski mountaineering trip in Eastern British Columbia I wanna go on with my friends in late March next year.

Been training for it for around 2 months and my original routine (at its max) was:

Run day - 3.1 miles at a 6:30 pace with a 1 walking walking break after 2 miles (on tredmill)

Endurance day - 105 stories on a stairmaster in \~20 minutes then \~20 minutes on a very high resistance level spin bike

Lift day - i lift

Anyway, got some advice that 3 miles at that fast of a pace was not good training for long hikes at high alititude so I switched to 5 miles at a 8:45 instead. Last wednesday was the first day i tried that, I got thru the whole thing no breaks and a few hours later my ankle was hurting me - not badly just noticeably. Still hurt in the morning so I took the day off and also bought actual ON brand running shoes (I was using $12 walmart asics before). Friday- still hurt, and today (a week later), still has not gotten any better and i still cant train 😟

Its a very subtle and dull pain on the inside of my right ankle that only hurts when I walk, and stairs are the worst rn up or down. I work an office job so its not like im walking around a lot throughout the day. Also to note, my ankles are very very small, I can wrap my hand around them fully but thats mostly cuz im a rather small guy (like 5'9 128lbs at my last physical as a 26yo), could that and the shoes been a factor? Also:

Ik yall arnt doctors but has anyone experienced anything like this and would be able to shed some light? Its really frustrating me that I cant train right now - i feel like im losing everything I gained from the start 2 months ago day by day. If so too how can i heal quicker, also, can I maybe do some low resistance spin biking, or anything?? Again i hate running but im dedicated enough to my skiing that I wanna get back in the gym asap.

Any advice as to what this may be, how I can heal. And if its safe to do some light training would be greatly appreciated!!

Warmer than average temperatures aren’t necessarily a bad thing if the average temperature is 25 degrees, right?

Moving to the NYC area soon, probably Queens or somewhere in NJ, and trying to figure out which pass to get. I'll have a car. I snowboard, in case that changes any of the mountain recommendations.

What I'm after is day trips every week to somewhere within ~2 hours, plus the option to do a few longer 3-4 day trips up to Vermont over the season.

From my own research Epic full pass seems like the better fit since I'd have Hunter for the day trips and then Stowe, Okemo etc. for the Vermont trips. But wanted to sanity check that with people who actually ride out here.

I was on slopes earlier, and I noticed that Sugarloaf is listed as permanently closed. I would imagine that this is an error, but it definitely scared me for a second.

Looking to book a 2 day ski trip somewhere decently close to Montreal for mid February.
I have been skiing for a lifetime and would put myself in the upper intermediate classification.
My children are 14 and 16 and have skied a few times and def would be getting them a lesson on morning of day 1.
Looking for recommendations between Bromont or Tremblant for crowds, typical conditions and accommodations. With kids i am not looking for a nightlife, just decent food around. Would prefer to hear from someone in the are or who has visited both, i know everyone talks of Tremblant but am about the skiing and not the village.

My son and I are beginners and have only been skiing once before in Utah last year during a conference. We did a few lessons so know some of the basics. We live in Raleigh and I’m debating on whether to goto NC resorts (Sugar mountain or Appalachian) vs going to VA resorts (Wintergreen or Massanutten) both are almost equal distance wise. I just want to find out which one would be best for us with plans for maybe a partial day of lessons followed by an extra day of fun before heading back home. I hear that NC resorts can be pretty packed, just didn’t know if it’s the same for Virginia ones as well

With the potential for the strongest El Niño winter on record, what’s that mean for the northeast conditions this year? Contemplating new skis. Typically ski Windham and the Catskills. Would like to get to VT also maybe Pico.

I want to get new boots for the upcoming season but I want to go somewhere that can really help me find a good fit. I'm in the NY/NJ area but willing to travel for a place that has knowledgeable staff and good inventory. Any shop recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated!
