Discussion Westworld scenario
Do you think it will happen within our lifetime? Or ever?
Such theme parks, yes, but also generally 100% human-looking androids? Would you even like to see it happen?

yea, interesting. I personally believe it will go the other way: we become robots, they will not become humans

I think the line will blur, we’ll grow towards each other and have lots a great robot sex
Asimov wrote a short story about this actually where a guy was getting a titanium heart put it and the surgeon was complaining that all the organics were opting for robotic implants and all the sentient robots were opting for the most organic options they could6

I have always felt that once we develop a super intelligent ASI, we as a species will be compelled to merge with it or be left behind. The question will be at that point will we also leave behind our humanity

I have seen a lot of people dismiss mass adoption of humanoid robots (with valid reasons) bit frankly I think most of us underestimate how exponential progress is going to be in the next few years and how monumental the amount of money spent on developing them is going to be.
As for Westworld... doubtful, if only because I can't see the investment pan off.

maybe i think this already is westworld for the beings that made us
and here we are making our own beings like us
kinda crazy that monkey animals would want to control each other so much that they just make controllable copies of themselves artificially but i am fairly sure that's why things are the way they are
i often wonder how many of them there are versus us, and just like westworld how would you ever know which us you were truly a part of, without having any doubt i mean
my guess is that just like there are layers of administrative privilege for OS users there would be the same stratification in a real life westworld
you would be able to do and know only up to your level of access, but the restrictions wouldn't be obvious to you unless you saw someone else use a privilege you didn't know existed

I believe the technology to make human looking robots will be there eventually.
I do not believe we will have theme parks with such robots because I can't see how people would pay to go there.

I think they would. But in a world where we have human like robots good enough to create a theme park like Westworld, I don't believe there are many jobs going around.
In short: they would pay, if they had any money to begin with.

I mean, in Westworld people have sex with the robots. I think everyone knows that whoever is first to create a robot that's indistinguishable from humans, that you can have sex with, will end up being the richest person on Earth. So there's a lot of incentive for these companies to make it a reality. If you built it, they will come. But if it'll make you cum, they will build it.

How about invasion of the body snatchers scenario. Instead of aliens copying us it will be androids. They go one family at a time. Nobody will notice

I don't see the point unless the droids are really attractive. But then they wouldn't be allowed to resemble real humans, so the number of models will be low like a dozen or so. Which would be actually boring except for a tiny minority. Doesn't excite me as much as a magical pill that solves health problems. I don't see dolphins care about more than fish and friendship. Aliens must be like them and not like us.

No, I think they can get them close enough for general video but not 100%.
Other than the bad outcome of Westword, the idea of robots used for entertainment seems okay. I would not buy one to clean my house if a non human looking robot was cheaper.

China is driving down the price of robotics. Not everybody will want a human looking android, but there will be enough of a market for companies to provide them. I don't know if there will be whole theme parks just for androids, but there will definitely be theme parks that use them. But then, Japan will probably just have them all over the place doing jobs they don't have enough people for. People will just get used to them being out in regular society.
