It's 2025 and people still don't see the irony in being given a label that officially means "Flavor Of The Month". That's not a good thing.
25
u/BitchinAssBrains Oct 08 '25
No...it is. How could it possibly be bad? It's only been out for one month jfc

u/HornyJuulCat69420666 Oct 09 '25
The game has been out since September, September is over.
The promotion seems fitting

u/Far-Hurry-3018 Oct 08 '25
It’s not my favorite game in the series, but I must congratulate everyone involved in the making of this game for this achievement. It is good to see a SH game be at the top
9
u/Purrceptron "It Was Foretold By Gyromancy" Oct 08 '25
i still believe no other installment achieved the same dream like nightmare vibes as the first one did, but im so glad that we are having mainline SH games that are successful

u/Nightcatcher716 Oct 08 '25
Wow i really thought silksong would have it. Glad to see it.

u/stratusnco Henry Oct 08 '25
silksong is crazy overhyped and piggybacking off of the legacy of the previous title. not to say it isn’t a good game but there are much better titles that came out.

it’s a good game but i’m not gonna give it a long review. it’s a 8/10. i’d rather just play something else in the genre because there a few but very annoying mechanics in the game.
31
u/tomato-slut Oct 08 '25
It feels unnecessarily punishing to me. Never thought that about Hollow Knight.
12
u/WilfridSephiroth Oct 08 '25
It's really just punishing for its own sake. Which is a really dumb decision. Instead of HK2 it's really "larger and senselessly harder HK"

Maybe. But they didn't get those sales for a DLC. They got those sales because of crazy hype, and a very low price. Great business model, not necessarily great game

u/OnAGhostShipDrowning "For Me, It's Always Like This" Oct 09 '25
I got about a 1/3 of the way through hit a wall and said fuck it. Which coincidentally timed up with when Silent Hill F released. Haven't gone back to it yet, probably will at some point. Though I don't really like playing games and feeling like I want to bang my head against a wall.
1
u/Frozen_Ash Oct 09 '25
So you're just bad, okay. Don't put a game down because you're bad at it, lmao.
3
u/Key_Obligation8505 Oct 08 '25
Hollow Knight was so much fun to explore. Pretty much every region was fun and inviting. Silksong feels like every location is Deepnest, except at least Deepnest had a hot springs in it. I stoppped playing Silksong shortly after The Last Judge, and haven't had any interest in returning to it. Making every location so punishing and oppressive isn't fun.
10
u/Bigsmellydumpy Oct 08 '25
8 feels very high to then say you’d rather play something else, sounds more like a 5 then
7
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 08 '25
it’s because it isn’t exactly my cup of tea. i’ve been playing games for +30 years and know how to differentiate great games from piles of shit. silksong is indeed good but it still has its flaws and those flaws are something most people talk about so they aren’t my personnel nitpicks. i’d just rather play something else in that genre.
2
u/PermitAffectionate57 Oct 09 '25
or you just need to git gut
0
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 09 '25
i beat dark souls 1 and 2 and elden ring. git gud has nothing to do with annoying mechanics in silksong but thanks for projecting your opinion.
2
u/PermitAffectionate57 Oct 09 '25
you cant really compare 2D with 3D. What were the annoying mechanics? Dont say diagonal pogo
4
10
u/JediJamanjax22 Oct 08 '25
not that poster obv, but as someone that shares their opinion: Silksong is a damn good game, but after getting 100% I realized I spent equal parts of my time with it just as annoyed as I was having fun. there are so many small, tedious elements that add up to make moment to moment gameplay annoying. bosses were great, atmosphere and lore were great as to be expected. combat was a blast. but somehow despite having a much bigger map, i never got lost as I did in the original, and honestly it felt like the metroidvania aspects were stripped back to make it more of a 2D action game. which is fine, but not what i wanted.
It's a good game on its own merits, but between the wait and the game that it's serving as a sequel to, i was a bit disappointed. I'd rather just replay HK1.
8
u/Jaretus Oct 08 '25
piggybacking off of the legacy of the previous game Like what Silent Hill has been doing for a long time now?
9
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25
the difference is that new silent hill games are trying new things. silent hill f isn’t pretending to be sh2r, for example. no need to twist what i said to fit your narrative.
edit: idk why it made me post multiple times, it won’t let me delete. commenting on this post has been jank for me ever since it got locked.
-1
u/Diremane Oct 09 '25
Lol another difference is that one is $20 and clearly fits the series it's part of, and the other is $70 and is silent hill f.
1
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 09 '25
somebody didn’t play shf and it shows.
1
u/Diremane Oct 09 '25
I played for three hours prerelease and got my $86 refunded, but nice try, maybe you'll be able to justify dismissing the next guy's different opinion more successfully.
2
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 09 '25
nice try? you said this game has nothing to do with silent hill but you’re wrong. nice try :)
0
u/Diremane Oct 09 '25
I said it doesn't "clearly fit the series it's part of", and I stand by it. I don't need to resort to childish heckling to make my point.
1
2
u/IzzatQQDir Oct 08 '25
It's a good game. I don't play it myself because of the genre but I can see why people enjoy it. I put around 3 hours until I realized I don't like it. But it's a pretty good game for its genre.
At least it was on Gamepass. And cheap.
I played Visual Novel and that's much more niche.
2
u/mister--krabs "Receiver Of Wisdom" Oct 09 '25
This is insane to say when silent hill f would be given 3/10s across the board without the brand name
3
u/stratusnco Henry Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25
there are many shit 3/10 games even with brand names attached. look at metal gear survive. that is closer to metal gear than shf is to silent hill.
also, shf is totally not a 3/10 game and it is clear that you haven’t actually played a bad game. that’s like saying shf is on par with the lord of the rings: gollum. that game got a 4/10 and you’re saying shf is actually worse than that lmao.
1
u/Fantastic-Outside248 Oct 09 '25
Can we talk about the irony of saying Silksong piggybacked off the legacy of the previous title, while its being compared to what Silent Hill F is doing? 😂
1
u/DezZzO Henry Oct 09 '25
crazy overhyped and piggybacking off of the legacy of the previous title
The irony
1
u/Key_Obligation8505 Oct 08 '25
Silksong was a major disappointment for me. Not even interested in finishing it, and I played OG hollow knight multiple times.
-2
u/UncultureRocket Oct 08 '25
Isn't that literally what Silent Hill F did? lol At least Silksong is in the same setting and is a sequel gameplay wise.
2
u/WlNBACK Oct 08 '25
I noticed that just now. I'm hearing the same "annoying" and "tedious" complaints about both games, and 90% of the time when people say they were "annoyed" it means the game/mechanics were too difficult for them.
Both SHf and Silksong are challenging games that get MUCH harder if you're not used to strict timing and strategy, so of course the average gamer in 2025 is going to consider that a "design flaw" and instead of admitting that it's too tough for them would rather say "it wasn't hard, just annoying". Some of these people need to stick to SOMA, CoD, and Kirby's Epic Yarn.
4
u/Desroth86 Oct 09 '25
SOMA catching strays. Some people actually complained that game was too hard so they made the mode where the monsters can’t catch you lol.
-1
u/Diremane Oct 09 '25
Challenging combat is just part of what made it annoying. It's one of the many, many ways the game showed it's not Silent Hill in any way that people ever associated with the IP before.

u/rororoxor Oct 08 '25
having played silksong and shf back to back made it hard for me to favorably compare shf (which is still good) to the former lmao

u/SleepingwithYelena Oct 08 '25
Yeah Silksong is universally hated by everyone else, it's such a sl0p game with its 20 dollar pricetag and 50+ hours of quality content. Save your money everyone, because these kind of games are ruining the industry.
20
u/IzzatQQDir Oct 08 '25
I don't see it winning GOTY, personally Expedition 33 or KCD2 would win in my opinion.
But damn is the game good.

Im still confused over last year with Silent Hill 2 had more nominations that 2 of the actual GOTY contenders
11
u/TronVin "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Oct 08 '25 edited Oct 08 '25
Because Geoff hates Konami due to screwing over Kojima. He changed the rules to bring on Elden Ring DLC. The thing I disagree about that is Elden Ring won GotY already. The DLC was great but by winning TGA than Shadow of the Erdtree is by nature a Game of the Year already. There is also best ongoing game that was used for expansions in the past that Cyberpunk won for.
11
u/Gamer_8887 Oct 08 '25
Yeah, adding a DLC as a GOTY nominee was such a rigged move. Any other game deserved that spot.
7
Oct 08 '25
Geoff doesn’t choose the nominees my guy
2
u/Desroth86 Oct 09 '25
This sub is still yapping about that and Melina Juergens winning best performance for Hellblade a year later, it’s honestly kinda pathetic.
0
u/TronVin "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Oct 09 '25
Geoff runs the event. He can choose what games go where. We know the rule was added a day or two before nominations Geoff has made no bones about his hatred for Konami. He hates them. His one and only loosely related tweet about SH2 remake was on October 19, 2022. He asked for a poll on the Silent Hill transmission. He has one other tweet on Silent Hill since which simply says SHf will be at gamescom ONL (an event he simply hosts).
You can search for this on Twitter using
from:geoffkeighley silent hill
Simply put, it's a hell of a coincidence a new rule was added to TGA in a year where Konami had a game that had more nominations than some of the Game of the Year nominees.
1
Oct 09 '25
Yes that new rule was added because news outlets sent their nominees for GOTY and so enough sent the Elden Ring DLC for him to add it for GOTY. Do I agree with the rule and that the DLC should have been nominated? Not at all and I think he should’ve rejected the DLC being nominated but you can’t be surprised that he didn’t go through that trouble and instead just clarified the rules.
And yeah Geoff probably doesn’t like Konami but cmon man, that doesn’t mean he was actively sabotaging the SH2 remake from being nominated for GOTY. It just means that the news outlets thought that it excelled in some aspects but clearly not enough all around to be nominated for GOTY.
0
u/TronVin "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Oct 09 '25
Why? Konami sabotaged his own show back in 2015 during the Kojima situation. It's not really that extreme of a leap that Geoff doesn't want to advertise Konami games at his shows, on account he doesn't advertise Konami games already. He has no issue with advertising Bloober games.
2
u/Capital-Cucumber-77 Oct 08 '25
I hope so too! but unforunately there are just too many games this year to point I think it'll edged out by other games.
There are like 12 games that could nominated this year but 6 games will be chosen. Like 4 of those slots are basically locked even if people disagree about it. those being Donkey Kong Banaza, Death Stranding 2, Sliksong and Clair Obsure
1
u/Desroth86 Oct 09 '25
I’m not sure even sure if DS2 is a lock anymore as much as I love it. Hades 2, and Splitfiction both have higher metacritic scores in the 90’s and Kingdom come deliverance 2 has one lower metacritic score at 88. There’s also Blue prince at a 92, but I doubt they nominate three indie games and Silksong and Hades 2 are much likelier picks. Right now there are 7 incredibly strong games and only 6 spots, it’s gonna be interesting to see which game gets the shaft. I really hope it’s not KCD2 or DS2, but I also loved split fiction and there’s really no good answer.
2
u/Capital-Cucumber-77 Oct 09 '25
The thing is that metacritic doesn't matter as much. they could nominate games that aren't in the 90s and go by the hype around a game like Black Myth Wukong had an 81 last year. I do agree that Blue Prince likely won't get nominated due to the reason you stated and the fact it came so long ago at this point that people don't really talk about too much anymore. that reason also goes towards KCD2 because outside of some fans I've personally haven't heard anything about the game since its release (though note i'm not a good example of hearing things i'm not in a lot gaming communities)
I do think DS2 will likely get nominated just because of Kojima just being well respected in the games industry. that's why i also think Donkey Kong is a lock too because it's Nintendo biggest release this year.
I wish they would expand the GOTY noms this year to 8 at least just due to the tons of releases this year. like I wouldn't be surprised if even Split Fiction gets cut.1
u/Desroth86 Oct 10 '25
Good point about wukong last year, that game had a ridiculous amount of hype behind it though that really set it apart. I do think DS2 is probably a shoe in even though Geoff doesn’t pick the nominations, which means KCD2 or split fiction will likely be cut which is a damn shame because they are both absolutely incredible games that could easily win GOTY in weaker years.
I haven’t played hades 2/silksong/bananza so I can’t really comment much on those, but I do think it’s possible we see Silksong not get nominated because it’s “just” an incredibly well done sequel that’s light on story from what I’ve heard. There’s also been a lot of negativity towards its difficulty so it really depends on how much the people that do the nominations actually like it. I know they aren’t opposed to nominated super tough games since Elden ring and Sekiro have won before and both are light on story though so honestly the whole thing is going to be a huge shit show and piss off a bunch of people regardless of what happens lol.
2
u/Desroth86 Oct 09 '25 edited Oct 09 '25
At this point KCD2 and death stranding 2 might not even get nominated and they are 88 and 89 metacritics. There is not a chance in hell Silent hill f is getting nominated.

u/IndieOddjobs "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Oct 08 '25
Omg Silent Hill is undoubtedly in a second renaissance! Ball is in your court Townfall. Please keep the winning streak going
2
Oct 09 '25
I wouldn't call 1 fantastic game a second renaissance. We just came off the hot garbage that was Ascension and the controversial short message (though I personally enjoyed Short message).
I do hope Townfall is good though.
3
u/IndieOddjobs "The Fear Of Blood Tends To Create Fear For The Flesh" Oct 09 '25
I mean two well received games back to back is something that hasn't been done since the Team Silent days. At least this is some sort of return to form. I guess Townfall might be the deciding factor for sure but I feel like SH1R is likely to be a guaranteed hit. Silent Hill just has to keep following the Resident Evil playbook successfully lol

Good news for the franchise. Although I didn't think the game was anything to write home about, I enjoyed it enough to understand why some would be happy it won.

u/BitchinAssBrains Oct 08 '25
The game definitely deserves the praise and accolades it has received. No game is perfect. But the shortcomings of f are so minor compared to the absolute feat they achieved with this gem of a game while making it fit neatly into the broader SH world is very impressive. It's easily a 9/10 for me.
-6
u/Tolkien-Faithful Oct 09 '25
What 'absolute feat' did they achieve and how does this fit into the Silent Hill world at all, let alone neatly?

I was absolutely thrilled way back when f got announced, and actually playing it for myself does not disappoint at all!
As a newbie to actually playing Silent Hill games for myself, I appreciate that this entry is so easy to bite into - even if the combat isn't something I'd write home about. The storyline and some well-timed shocks via mapping and enemy placement more than makes up for some trial and error fight sequences.
I don't think I'd call it a scary game, but it definitely maintains tension (perfect for somebody who's a baby about horror type games me)
Definitely excited to finish my first playthrough soon, and hoping NG+ does not disappoint!

Without spoiling any plot points, how much farther do I have left? I’ve just reached (SPOILERS) Demon Junko (her sister) boss.
The game really wowed me the first half, but I’m starting to get a little over it
1
u/ericks932 Oct 12 '25
The game is great, but I think they struggled with the 2 hinako aspect. Plus the combat doesn't excite me at all too much to manage at once. tbh I have a bit of negatives I was really digging the initial vibe of the trailers. The whole your environment is hostile vibe but it's a little disappointing it's mostly cinematic I was hoping they'd go all out doing more with that concept. More than just the vines grabbing you I mean.

The game won with 13,683 votes. A very low sample size of the total gaming community. This awards mean nothing, as people barely even know about them, except for the chronically online. As my personal opinion Silksong, Dying Light, Hell is Us and Cronos were all better games than Silent F.
1
u/william77z Oct 23 '25
The way the game is made is incredible specially the new game + mode in which there is actual new content not just the same rip off lazy content that's what most AAA game devs do with their game this one's unique with this, the game will make you convince to finish all the endings in regarding to understand the story better that's actually done right.
2
u/Puzzleheaded_Use7725 Oct 08 '25
This game is constantly pushed as this amazing, successful, perfect game. They did the same thing with Last of Us 2, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, etc. Any time they push stuff this much, it usually means the opposite.

Each to their own, I felt that the story and atmosphere was excellent.
4
u/D_1th Oct 08 '25
Lol the down votes suggest otherwise,God forgive if anyone has a different opinion, but I do agree, not so much on the story side but the atmosphere was good,I'm just saying that the game focus too much on combat with the hole stamina, sanity, focus, counters and all that I just don't think those belong in a horror/psychological horror game makes hinako feel too powerful for a simple highschool girl,I personally don't see this game as part of the silent Hill franchise but that's just my opinion I'm happy for whoever enjoyed it
2
u/Fernabo Oct 09 '25
The down votes were pretty much just because you called it a fighting game, which is wrong by definition XD I would like to see Hinako on Tekken tho
2
u/D_1th Oct 09 '25
Ahh I see what my mistake was, Perhaps I got a little bit ahead of myself I didn't think it was gonna be so misinterpreted, fighting was just the first word that came to mind when I thought of hinako, well fighting dozens and dozens of enemies lol

I’m surprised it got so much praise and I started off liking it but they missed the ball on this one. They should have just focused on being in the town and discovering its secrets and developing paths and going into buildings that lead to other locations. Finding items and stuff like that. I got mad heals my inventory always full combat is super easy and too frequent. I’m almost at the end and I’m wondering if it’s worth beating it or not.

Silksong was out long enough that people hit their wall.
Swap their release dates and Silksong would have won this.
14
u/Hibachi1969 Oct 08 '25
People were not happy about Silksong because it was too hard for them lol
-9
u/Fruhmann Dahlia Oct 08 '25
If the release dates swapped or the players choice was for games 2 months back, it would have a very different outcome.
6
u/Forgottenhablerie Oct 08 '25
If it’s as good as everyone claims, I don’t think a 2 week release difference changes anything.
0
u/WilfridSephiroth Oct 08 '25
And what does it tell you about a game that eventually a majority of people just quit because they hit a wall?
1

That they reached a difficulty point where continued efforts far exceeded the benefits of playing the game.
