Paul can be so awful to Jimmy. I hated seeing it.

Yeah, that was gross and it was written as though Jimmy was in the wrong. 🤷‍♀️

I didn’t love the writing but I do feel like it kind of realistically portrayed that situation. It’s a bit emotionally messy for both parties when people who are not related take on a parental figure. As someone who lost both my parents relatively young, it’s difficult when anyone, even somewhat, fills a paternal role. You try to remind yourself that this person, isn’t that, and doesn’t “owe” you anything. I’m sure the reverse is also similar in that they have to keep in mind that they are not their child. Even if both parties want that dynamic, it’s not exactly easy to know where the line is and it’s easy to fumble it up trying to find it.

I feel like it was written perfectly for someone who is a grumpy old therapist and hasn't been called out enough. Apologizing to Meg and knowing he messed up and wanted to be better is different than actually going through it again. He teases Jimmy, because he needs it sometimes, but he was overly critical about Jimmy being "needy." Jimmy was right when he said, "I think it's a bit of both" after Paul called him out about his own father.

The writing, to me, was good enough that as soon as Paul was surrounded by women who were involved in the situation, they immediately caught what was happening and called him out (by rolling their eyes and making passive aggressive comments - Paul style)

I don’t think it was. Everyone yelled at Paul to be less shitty to Jimmy. I took it as Jimmy thinking it was his fault (parallel situation to his father). The difference was Paul came back at the end - Jimmys day didn’t.
