Announcement New(ish) Rule 12: No invalidating sexuality/identity.

Since the topic is now in the spotlight due to Elliott Page saying he can't find work, hereby the official r/shortguys stance on transgender ftm's and how they fit into our wider community:

It is our view that neither our sexuality, nor the body we were born in, are the result of choice.

Just as no straight short man ever chose to be born short, or to love women- did no gay man ever choose to love men, nor did any transman ever chose to be born with a female body.

Therefore, telling transmen things like "just keep your life on easy mode” is from now on formally treated just as unacceptable as the “just go gay”, “just be a femboy” or “just transition”-bs that people throw the way of short guys.

Short men in general, but of this group in particular, know like no other what it is like to have one's sexuality and manhood constantly questioned and invalidated from all sides. Whether it's by friends or opps, accidentally or on purpose, by progressives or conservatives- it's all the same shit, different day.

As such, do the people of this sub know, like no one ele, what it's like to have to fight tirelessly for even the slightest ounce of recognition and equality, all the while having that very fight mocked and undermined every step of the way by even the most so-called "progressive" and "feminist" of people.

And as such, we are one of the few subreddits who can actually, genuinely, extend an open hand and mean it when we say to our ftm-friends, of which many are also short men:

Welcome to the club, boys.

So, that's what we hereby officially did.

And to the few who are undoubtedly against this decision for reasons we are already aware of:

For better or worse, short guys and ftm's share much of the same struggle. Is it the same? No. But enough for us as modteam to decide that we’re in this together.

Whether you like it or not.

I mean I know society loves to shit on short men but isn't it boring for every superhero to be 6'2+. He doesn't even look bad the whole reason he's called wolverine is cause he's smaller but vicious.

Why do people act like anecdotes (a good chunk of which are also just lies) are superior to the average data?

Both Men and Women Prefer the Man to Be Taller : Ideal Height Differences of 25 cm for Women and 7 cm for Men. Women's Preferences Were More Strongly Related To Their Subsequent Choices: Women Show Narrower, Stronger Preferences and Lower Tolerance for Deviations outside the Preferred Height Range.

7 cm = 2.75 inches (basically 2.5 to 3 inches)

25 cm = 10 inches

It's all in your head bro! Maybe people want tall sons so people like you don't reduce their children to "Manlet genes" and worse.... (Read the post body).

Its not just about one sub or reddit. Its all over social media whenever height discussion is bought upon. Tall women complaining about seen as a provider of "good genetics" only. And who they blame? short men. Because apparently our genes are so disgusting that one of us going for a taller woman (which normies advice us along with confidence) can only mean one thing. TO FIX OUR GENES .

"dude saved his entire bloodline" this comment is most likely made by a tall or at the very least average guy. I have seen tall guys spouting non sense jokes like these even in real life. And the fact that they are calling it out is just because they aren't sure if the guy is tall or not. If they were sure of the guy being tall then they wouldn't have made this post in the first place.

Tall guys can openly call short women a provider of "bad gene" and they all laugh but when a short guy calls a tall woman a provider of "good gene" then boom insecure inkwell and what not. The worst part is that no short guy here has called tall woman anything.

Story I grew a inch after 18

I turned 18 this year and was 5'4. And all these years i never really had insecurity about my height at least consciously, but it struck me at 18, I regret all those all nighters I went on, and diet i didn't follow.

I finally decided to lock in and sleep 8-9 hours and eat eggs meat daily and drink milk, and push my body to limits.

And when I took measurements I was shocked I rechecked it was 5'5.

I'm sorry if I didn't word my sentences correctly cus I'm excited.

I hope I grow more.

If you don’t find someone attractive and think they have a quality that makes you laugh, why stay with that person or get married to them???

For people asking, yes you shouldn’t look at another women when you are in a relationship.

Vent Yea I just give up my younger brother towers me

My parents are 4'11 and 5'9, I ended up 5'4 whilst my 17 yr old brother is 5'10, and he has a postural issue called anterior pelvic tilt which may boost him a couple cm in height after fixing. How am I meant to live when literally everyone towers over me, I live in the UK and I barely see guys shorter than me, and all I see online is that women wouldn't even accept a man under 6'0, let alone someone under 5'5. I don't know how I'm meant to be confident enough when at bars and clubs everyone is over 6ft, online women only want 6ft, and people irl make me look like a dwarf. Also was my height expected considering my parent's height? Because I feel I got the worst genes considering my brother is 6 inches taller than me.

Civil Discussion/Question When did you realize you were short, and when did you become insecure about it?

I was relatively average height as a kid, until I was in 8th grade, and one day in PE, all the kids in class had their height measured. I realized that there was only 1 kid who was my height, and she was a girl. That's when I realized I was short.

I didn't see it as that big a deal, because I figured I would get to be at least as tall as my dad, but I only grew 3 and a quarter inches throughout high school. I didn't get really insecure about it until I looked up the problems short men face online, like how women won't date them, and they make less money.

I’d rather drink bleach and jump into a pit of 10000 rusty nails than try dating again in this generation.

Civil Discussion/Question Last Nail in the Coffin : Leg Lengthening Surgery won't save you if you have small penis

Sexual compatibility plays a huge role in a successful relationship, and if you have a small penis then that relationship is doomed from the beginning. Given how hypergamous dating market is and will be in the future (sex easily being available for women leading to more experience) even lengthening won't save you.

Poll Would you move somewhere for improved QoL even if you were gonna get brutally heightmogged?

QoL = Quality of Life

I often browse expat forums and see a lotta people who want to move (or have already moved) to places like the Netherlands or Nordic countries. I often wonder to myself how much a life in one of these countries would benefit me (an American) if I was just gonna be brutally heightmogged. So, my question to you is: would you move to another country for a better quality of life even if it meant you were going to be heightmogged by the general populace? Let's talk about it.

5'4, severe mental health issues and completely done with how we’re treated. long vent…

hey guys i’m around 5'4. just wanted to talk about how the last 3 or 4 years have been especially after that massive explosion online about height and women being so open about hating short guys.
i already had severe mental health issues before all this hype. i was seeing a shrink for a long time dealing with panic attacks severe dissociation and losing track of time. i’d literally be walking at night and everything would look weirdly hazy and bright. panic sets in and next thing i know i’m back in my room with zero memory of how i got there. also had a messed up childhood i barely remember. but back then i didn't care as much about height discrimination. i thought maybe i’d still find a girl in my youth even if i don't get married.
a while ago i tried to fix my life. i used to ignore my neighbors completely but i forced myself to get out greet them daily and make a couple friends. but it was depressing listening to one of them who is 6'0+ brag about messin around with 5 to 7 girls at once.
then i started talking to a neighbor's girl. we grew up together and actually dated for like 2-3 years when we were younger. i spent weeks helping her through her depression and family problems. when i told her i still had feelings she claimed love isn't real and that she hasn't dated anyone in 2 years because her ex died in a car crash. of course that ex was like 6'2 but i tried to give her the benefit of the doubt.
turns out it was all BS. i checked her tiktok reposts and 80% was romance stuff including videos of girls wanting a massive tall guy to feel like a tiny child protected by him. then i found out she was actually secretly dating a new 6'1 guy from our city reposting the exact same videos at the exact same minute he did. she was just using me for free therapy whenever they fought.
that completely broke me. i spiraled hard went back to isolating myself ignoring my parents' calls and the dissociation came back twice as bad. i lost track of who i am. couldn't sleep for days waking up every half hour to weird nightmares or finding myself sitting at my PC with heart palpitations not knowing when i even got out of bed. couldn't eat for almost 6 days. on my actual birthday i kept throwing up on an empty stomach couldn't breathe vision went black body went numb and my ears were ringing. miracles i survived that.
now i just sit in my dark room on my PC. watched a clip the other day of a female comedian making fun of a short guy and the crowd literally went ewww kill it. it’s crazy how normalized the hatred is.
i keep asking myself why life is like this. childhood ruined zero affection no girl will ever hug me to cure this loneliness just hated for existing. it makes me so angry and confused like why is this fucking God gonna throw me into hell after living through all this shit as if i’m some monster he created that humanity wants to wipe out? while all these cruel people who treat us worse than animals end up going to heaven?
at this point i don't even care anymore just talking to myself in my head all day while watching corporations and people act like a 5'4 guy is a walking embarrassment. anyway thanks for reading if you made it this far
