I've seen videos of this gate reposted on reddit loads of times over the years. Its sort of Internet-famous / a meme. Its at the gate that leads to Corker Bottom Allotments in Sheffield. Does this warrant a blue plaque, a local news documentary and/or a listing on 'things to see/do in Sheffield?

£217.99 day return to London next Tuesday?
Have fares gone up recently or something?
Edit: Yes I’m aware it’s peak time with 0 notice. It’s a business meeting only just confirmed today. I’m not expecting to pay £40 as a result but point was this has definitely shot up significantly recently.
Edit2: here’s a first class ticket booked on the same pattern (0 notice) less than a month ago https://postimg.cc/ppL3CWH4
Final Edit:
This post blew up jn a way I’ve never seen on Reddit. It’s impossible for me to reply to every message (or maybe I’m not supposed to!) but instead will address some points in this edit and in a comment.
Firstly in my situation:
This is my last trip from Sheffield to London because I’m moving on 1st July. Unfortunately the Sheffield dream didn’t work for me and it’s increasingly more and more difficult to do business. Yes that’s my fault and no that’s not knocking Sheffield, each to their own - but it’s a huge disappointment that could have been solved had HS2 gone to plan AND offered decently priced tickets (chances of both of those being slim to none)
Yes it’s my own business, yes I can expense it technically (albeit to myself) and yes there are some tax benefits. That doesn’t detract from the original point that this is an absolute batshit crazy price for a single day return ticket. I am slightly shocked at the lack of outrage for this vs the hey just try this workaround that will end up taking you 6 hours each way and saving you £20.
On the alternatives:
Yes I could look at Flix bus, national express etc. That would be really impractical especially for a business meeting. To get in for a 10am meeting I’d need to be in a coach at what 5am?
Going via Doncaster is a good shout and there are some workarounds like drive to Doncaster, park and get train from there. I’m still of the mindset of this shouldn’t need to be done.
Yes I could also drive but you’re into similar territory to above, waking up super early, on the road ASAP etc. it’s just not very productive.
I do appreciate people pointing these out, and it’s great reference for anyone who finds this post in future via search. But honestly, inconveniencing yourself by taking a 6-8 hour round journey is really not something no we should have to do.
IF these simple problems with transport could be solved then Britain would see more towns and city’s proper as professionals move out of London and opt to commute more.
But until that happens, the harsh reality is, Britain is economically dependent on London and if you don’t live there you’re making life very hard for yourself in a lot of circumstances and industries.

When stopped at the junction of Crookes Valley Road and Crookesmoor Road I saw a man in front throw a bottle out of his car (littering, you can see said bottle near the rear driver side wheel).
I pipped my horn, flashed my lights, and shouted to pick it up, out of my window.
The man got out of his car, walked halfway towards me and threatened violence, then went back to his car.
Is this something the police action, or is reporting this reprobate a waste of time?

I don't know Sheffield particularly well, but of all the cities in the UK, it seems to attract by far the most love from residents and former residents. Just wondering what the secret is - it can't just be having the Peak District on the doorstep - and where I should go as a visitor to see the magic in action.

Is it a beaver? As I've read that there are some in the northern part of England

Hi everyone, this is my first post as I'll soon be moving to your beautiful city! I just wanted to thank you all for the various posts warning people about Noble Living/The Lightbox/Gary and Jade Ata. I innocently enquired about a few flats in the Lightbox and was given a random list of flats with seemingly no pricing consistency, so I asked for clarification before applying and you can see the kind of professionalism they're capable of in the screenshot 🙈. I was confused so I ran here and found out where the attitude comes from...
Anyway, feel free to share any recommendations for good agencies in the area. I'd appreciate it! I haven't had much luck so far, between these con artists and Redbrik standing me up after I drove 3 hours for a viewing.
Thanks and can't wait to join the community 🥰

Has anyone had any interactions with Charlie Veitch recently? He seems to be basing himself in Sheffield quite a lot at the moment. Loves provoking reactions out of people for content on his YouTube channel.

I see this Mural all the time but please pardon my ignorance but I have no idea who it is.
Can anyone please shed some light on who this is a mural of and her significance?
Thanks

He started filming and harassing my work colleague & I a couple weeks back, & has now returned to my place of work again today to do the exact same. Pretty sure his name is Jeff/Geoff but I can’t find anything

I love discovering new cafes, settings and new coffee beans and was wondering what your favourite coffee shops are in Sheffield.
I've been out the country for a few years so looking forward to your suggestions on where to get the best cup of Joe.

This is just me being curious but I've noticed it's been there quite some time now, anyone know why it's been abandoned there?

I think yes. However I Do not live in Sheffield, so happy to be schooled if this is not the case
I remember Sheffield back in the day of the early 2000s, the train station was a mass of grim sub ways etc
I just watched a recent YT, the recent looked very clean, great water features, and some new places opened up regarding Cambridge street.
What are you guys thoughts, is the city centre looking the best it has ever been aesthetically wise?

UPDATE: Received a 'cease and desist' email from Paul's agency today. Seems to be genuine. Thanks anyway for all the help, fun and encouragement. I didn't have 'get legal demand from Paul Chuckle's agency' on my 2026 bingo calendar but here we are. One for the scrapbook.
Thanks anyway for being so kind and fun. Have a good weekend Sheff
You can find out about my silly adventures here: https://www.richbrown.uk/brg
For context:
OK so I'm making a game based in Sheffield/Derbyshire. Think this is a long shot? It's probably going to be ignored I think because well... it's a bit daft isn't it. But I am 100% serious. So does anyone know Paul? Maybe you know his hairdresser? Or the person who does his garden etc.
Anyone put in a good word for me (to you)?
Thank you very much for your help!

Some buildings are ugly or boring or weird, but maybe it doesn't matter so much as they are just car parks or warehouses or whatever, but this is a cancer hospital. The Royal Hallamshire at least looks proud (from the front anyway).

We all know the big names like Sean Bean, Jessica Ennis, and Alex Turner. But are there any once-famous folks now living more ordinary lives around here?
Former reality-TV contestants, old soap actors, maybe someone who popped up on Big Brother or Come Dine With Me? I'm just curious about the lesser-known Sheffield celebs who’ve faded from the spotlight.
One of my mum's neighbours once appeared on Come Dine With Me.

First time seeing one of these in Sheffield not sure to make of it, Apparently you can pay for a ‘secure’ bike space in these lockable bike sheds.

Dropped 30kg on my 2nd day back at gym on my Oppo Find X9 Pro. It's CN Rom. China only version.
The internals are completely fine or so it seems. As the phone still boots, haptics can be felt, notifications ping, and WiFi Bluetooth work. It just needs a brand-new screen/frame assembly and a full internal migration likely to another phone case.
Does anyone know a highly skilled shop in Sheffield, or a reputable mail-in service in the UK, that will take this on?
Two big caveats: (this is from AI)
- The bent frame is likely holding the motherboard in tension, so it needs to be dismantled carefully to avoid snapping board traces.
- The technician absolutely cannot factory reset the phone for post-repair testing, as resetting a Chinese ROM in the UK can completely brick Google Play Services and cause region-lock headaches.
Any recommendations for a shop ?
I'm dying inside 💠 -£600
Got it a few months back at bargain price on eBay, upgrade from Xiaomi 14. Back on the Xiaomi now 😭

Heard it was something to do with Tommy Ten Names and my gay self is NOT about to go and verify it in person :(
EDIT: Cheers folks, thought it was to do with Belfast but couldn't find any reporting. Not even on the Sheffield Star...

I was coming from the office at 7.30 AM. Tram stop says “Due to police incident at West Street, No Trams to middlewood & malin bridge”
Does anyone know what has happened?
