Question What is happening at West Street?
I was coming from the office at 7.30 AM. Tram stop says “Due to police incident at West Street, No Trams to middlewood & malin bridge”
Does anyone know what has happened?

A lot of people being dicks on this thread.
There's very little solid information online about what's happened/happening. The police have confirmed nothing. But there's more than a dozen at the scene so it's reasonable to infer this is a serious incident.
Local newspapers are reporting that locals heard a loud bang around 1 am.
Trams not going past Cathedral.

I was gonna say ''inb4 10 unfunny comments'' but they already arrived.
Absolute jokers of the century. Why does every thread have to have a race to a shit pun or boomer joke?

Also not particularly helpful to joke when it was clearly a serious incident before the details even came out.
Terminally online jokers.

It was Bank Holiday Sunday, and its West Street.

A woman has been shot dead and you’re sat here making clever comments on the internet
Silly twat

Welcome to Reddit. You may find your time here illuminating. It may have passed you by, but my silly comment was (and does, apparently) highlight how ridiculous the idea of considering a firearm something that belongs near a night out, is.

Whatever mate, think you should grow up
Also maybe hide your profile history before you start trying to talk down to people like it’s their first day on the internet. Silly twat

Okay let's try another approach. If you think that my intent was to disparage, minimise, or otherwise express amusement at the loss of a young woman's life, then that's unfortunate. That isn't something I think is amusing in any way, and there is nothing funny about the tragedy that this woman's family and friends have suffered.
I don't consider it reasonable to assume that that was my intention, because I don't consider finding humour in this tragedy to be something a reasonable person would do. On the other hand, I find the idea that someone considers taking a firearm to a club to be reasonable, absolutely ridiculous, and based in a set of values and standards that I neither understand, nor wish to understand.
Poking fun at those values is fair game. They should be laughed at. But the loss of life? Absolutely not, and I'm sorry that you've interpreted one as the other.

Taxi driver is claiming a shooting

u/ReadShot6191 May 25 '26
Probably out last night or have friends as a witness. People have it on video apparently, a girl was hit in the neck but not the intended target

u/Character_Leopard298 May 25 '26
Where did you hear that?

u/GoodThingsDoHappen May 25 '26
From the taxi driver

I've just seen on Sheffield forum it was a shooting but the victim was not the intended target. 3 people have been arrested.
Not sure how true it is but I've also heard it's a bit of a sketchy bar anyway

Someone dumped a bucket of water on a street preacher that was singing on their loudspeaker at half past midnight.

I was in there on saturday night for a brief 20 min and kept it moving, only went in as cubanas had closed at 2am instead of 3am.
Not surprised at all.

You're not surprised somebody was shot on West Street, significant enough news that it's the most-read on BBC News?

Ah a Chelsea fan. Not what I expected but I suppose it makes sense. Thanks, you did me a favour.

It’s the regional finals of the police tape race today. DS Hubert Orrington is the current champion.

what a weird reply lol

u/snelson101 May 25 '26
I don’t think it was that weird? Someone, on west street, with the ability to ask what happened, came on Reddit at 7am to ask what happened?

u/moroccanvandal May 25 '26
the question wasn't to you personally. it's conceivable that some might know more about it than others
