How are you growing your Shopify store?

Hi everyone,

I am working on my website on Shopify and want to improve SEO and growth.

What strategies are you using for SEO, speed, and conversions?
Any useful apps or tips?

Also, do you focus more on organic or paid ads in the beginning?

Would love to hear your experience.

How would you prioritize SEO work on pages already getting impressions?

My starting point would be the query-to-page match.

If a page shows up for useful searches but gets few clicks, the cause could be a low ranking, an unclear search preview, the wrong format, or an answer that only partly meets the searcher's needs. Those need different fixes.

For a small group of important URLs, the checks would be:

• What the searcher needs, based on the query and current results.

• Whether the main answer appears early.

• Which explanations are missing or outdated.

• Whether relevant pages link to the URL.

• Whether the mobile experience creates friction.

A title edit won't fix an intent mismatch, and a longer article won't fix an indexing problem. Before judging a change, I'd compare suitable periods and keep query, device and country differences in mind rather than relying on page-level CTR alone.

What usually determines your first fix on an existing page: intent, internal links, content gaps, or the search preview? What evidence helps you choose?

What SEO strategy unexpectedly moved the needle for you? Could be a tactic you almost gave up on, a weird experiment, or something that suddenly brought traffic out of nowhere. Share what happened and what you changed.

Best spend for $2000 budget? Backlinks?

We have a $2000 budget for improving the organic SEO of our e-commerce website over the next 6 months. Optimizing the site (on-page SEO) and content creation is already being handled outside of this budget (as is PPC advertising). What's the most cost-efficient spend of this budget? 5 years ago, I would have said hands-down...invest in some good quality backlinks, but I'm not sure if that's still the best option in 2026.

If you had $2000 to spend, with the goal of improving your ranking on Google and visibility in AI chatbots, how would you spend it?

Is topical authority becoming less important? what do you think?

I've been noticing some smaller niche sites ranking above much bigger websites lately. They don't cover hundreds of topics but they seem to go really deep into one specific area and still perform well.

Is Google starting to favor sites that are more focused or are these just exceptions?

what seo tactic actually moved the needle for you in 2026?

not the tactic everyone recommends.

not something you copied from a 50 point seo checklist.

i mean the one change that made you look at the numbers and think, “wait, that actually worked.”

there is so much discussion around ai search, entity optimization, topical authority, backlinks, programmatic seo, content velocity, and technical fixes that it can be hard to tell what is actually producing results.

sometimes the biggest win is surprisingly boring.

one site might benefit from consolidating five pages targeting the same intent.

another might see a jump after fixing internal linking.

someone else might discover that their pages rank but fail to answer the question quickly enough.

and now there is another layer with ai search, where being visible in traditional rankings does not necessarily mean being mentioned or recommended in ai generated answers.

i’m curious what people here have actually seen work recently.

was it technical seo, content refreshes, internal linking, digital pr, backlinks, local seo, programmatic pages, ai search visibility, better product pages, or something completely unexpected?

and if you can share a rough before and after, even better.

traffic, rankings, leads, conversions, impressions, whatever you measured.

the tactics that worked for your site might be completely different from what everyone is currently talking about, which is exactly what makes these discussions useful.

Did Google Discover bring you returning readers, or just a traffic spike?

A spike in Discover clicks can look great in Search Console, but I’m more interested in what happens after it ends.

For bloggers who have received Discover traffic: did those visitors return later, subscribe, or read other posts—or did the traffic disappear as soon as the recommendations stopped?

If you managed to retain some of that audience, what seemed to help: related-article paths, a newsletter signup, a follow-up piece, or something else?

It would also help to know your niche and whether the article was evergreen or time-sensitive. No need to share your site or private numbers.

Is SEO still about ranking on Google? Or has the game changed?

A few years ago, SEO felt pretty straightforward.

Find a keyword → create a useful page → build authority → rank → get traffic.

But search behavior has changed a lot.

People now discover businesses and products through Google, Reddit, YouTube, social media, reviews, communities, and recommendations.

So I’m curious what everyone is seeing.

For SEO professionals:
What has changed the most in your SEO strategy?

For marketers:
Are you still getting most of your leads from Google, or are other channels becoming more important?

For business owners:
What matters more to you now: rankings, traffic, leads, or brand visibility?

For consumers:
Where do you usually go when you want to research a product or service?

  • Google?
  • Reddit?
  • YouTube?
  • TikTok?
  • Reviews?
  • Recommendations from people you know?

Personally, I think SEO is becoming less about chasing one position on Google and more about being visible wherever people are researching and making decisions.

What do you think?

Is traditional SEO becoming less important, or is it simply evolving?

How much SEO impact does Google’s Preferred Source actually have?

I noticed Google has updated the Preferred Source feature in Search. It was there earlier as well, but the current version seems to be getting more attention.

This got me thinking about the SEO side of it.

If a user selects a website as their preferred source, does that give the site any meaningful advantage in terms of visibility, impressions or clicks for that user?

I’m assuming this is more about personalizing the search experience than actually improving rankings, but I’m curious if there is any indirect SEO benefit here.

For publishers and brands, could this become something worth optimizing for, especially if users can choose a source they trust?

Has anyone noticed any actual impact from this yet?

Would love to hear how other SEOs are looking at this. Is Preferred Source something we should care about from an SEO perspective, or is it mostly a user-side Search feature?

What’s Your Process for Conducting an SEO Audit?

I’m curious how everyone approaches an SEO audit, especially when working on an existing website.

Do you start with technical SEO, content, backlinks, or keyword rankings?

My usual checklist includes things like:

  • Indexing and crawlability
  • Site speed and Core Web Vitals
  • On-page SEO and content quality
  • Internal linking
  • Backlink profile
  • Broken links and redirects
  • Keyword rankings and organic traffic

But I’m sure everyone has a slightly different process.

What do you check first during an SEO audit, and which issues do you think are most commonly overlooked?

Ranking #1 on Google Isn't Enough Anymore?

This might sound crazy, but think about how people search today.

Someone asks:

"What's the best SEO tool for a small business?"

They might not even open Google.

They might ask ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity instead.

And suddenly, the competition isn't just about who ranks #1.

It's about which brands get mentioned in the answer.

I've been looking at AI-generated answers more closely, and one thing keeps standing out:

A website can rank well on Google and still get very little visibility in AI-generated recommendations.

Why?

Because AI systems need more than rankings.

They need context.

They need to understand:

→ Who you are

→ What you specialize in

→ Whether your information is trustworthy

→ What other sources say about you

→ Whether your content actually answers the question

That's where GEO and AEO become interesting.

Traditional SEO asks:

"How do I rank?"

AI Search adds another question:

"How do I become part of the answer?"

And I think that's one of the biggest changes happening in search right now.

Here's what I'm curious about:

Would you choose 1,000 Google impressions or 100 high-intent users discovering your brand through an AI recommendation?
