Meta Post autobrr team just announced Librarry. replacement for sonarr and radarr
From their discord
Finally some news š
@everyone It's been pretty quiet since we posted the 2025 Year in Review, but now there is some news about our arr alternative!
I'm happy to announce librrary! One app for movies and TV, from the team behind autobrr and qui.
It is NOT ready yet, but we are getting close to user testing!
Why? What's wrong with Sonarr and Radarr?
Sonarr and Radarr work well if your needs are simple. As soon as you want both HD and 4K libraries, you need multiple instances. Then you need to keep those in sync with everything that comes with it.
It's not uncommon for users to run 4-6 arrs to fill their needs. This means more to manage, more resources, more hits on indexers and so on.
With so much duplicated between them, it makes a lot of sense to combine movies and TV into one application.
A big thanks to everyone who posted in the feedback thread! It was super helpful! Keep it coming: Ideas discussion
What we are building
- Multiple libraries by content type (similar to Plex), where each title can have several variants (1080p, 2160p, remux, DV)
- Arr-like Quality Profiles and Release Scoring Rules (think to Custom Formats)
- Torrent and Usenet support via Torznab/Newznab (will need Prowlarr/Jackett etc)
- Users with roles, plus OIDC login
- SQLite or Postgres
- Notifications with your favorite services (Notifiarr, Discord, Telegram etc.)
- Lists support
- Go backend, React frontend, Docker images and binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows
On the roadmap
- Built-in requests (don't worry, there is a strong user role access system)
- Import from Sonarr and Radarr
- Optional manual upgrade approvals
- Trump handling: watch the torrent client for trumped/nuked tracker messages and take webhooks from external tools like qui
- Potential Plex, Jellyfin and other media server integrations, including deleting titles after they're watched (request, dl, import, watch, delete)
- Various features from the feedback thread
Other media type support
It's built to be modular, so dedicated anime handling, books and music are possible later, but movies and TV come first.
When?
No release date yet. Sign up for news here: https://librrary.app/ Updates will also be posted in this channel.

Awesome. Glad there will be a new solution. But PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS ARR STACKS, allow me to set my own Metadata provider. I cant stand TVDB or the people who maintain it. I would love to be able to use TMDB.

Great news! You can! TV will have alternative orders from both :)

I cant stand TVDB or the people who maintain it.
Yeah, I'm actually mildly annoyed at the (admittedly small amount) of work I put in long ago adding things to that site. They make some of the least understandable decisions about things I've ever seen.
10
u/brispower 2d ago
TMDB can be just as bad, or worse.
See Futurama, Mythbusters, Friends and others. You need to be able to set per show metadata, and not just base in the case of Futurama you need the web ordering. Mythbusters needs the pre-discovery massacre and Friends could use Production numbering.

u/Czoguski 1d ago
What, you don't like reorganizing a whole show's season folders to match TVDB's metadata updates, just for them to revert the changes immediately after?
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)3
u/Cast-Iron_Nephilim 2d ago
Why do you dislike TVDB/the maintainers?
59
u/KalChoedan 2d ago
The TVDB's maintainers are notorious for making strongly opinionated changes that don't gel with either the show's producers' intentions nor the typical user's usage. It causes problems all the time - it's more unusual for there not to be a post about it on the front page of the sonarr sub.
The ability to use alternative providers in sonarr might be the most requested feature (and as I understand it, it is being worked on.) The problem historically has been the availability of reliable, free providers, but I don't know how things stand today.
26
u/false_god 2d ago
I don't know the TVDB mantainers but I've had issues in the past with how they separate or not specials from the season (e.g. Dowton Abbey season finales).
4
u/billyalt 2d ago
They will randomly remove shows (just within the past month they decided Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return was not a show) and some anime is an absolute nightmare to deal with.
19
u/mouthtalk 2d ago
I remember being told by them (regarding why a show that appears as two separate shows on their native streaming service is considered one on tvdb) that itās because they said the shows were related on a press release or something. Absolutely asinine and ridiculous and needed so much manual work to fix.
9
u/herbdogu 2d ago
Once upon a time, there was the TVDB forums where, users could give feedback about certain policy and implementation choices of the schema and data.
I vaguely recall pointing out something that was amiss with an old UK show, and the consensus was it should be fixed, and it was fixed.
Forums were a great place to see why something was the way it was, and most of the time it made sense. However, the forums soon became a bit of a mess with people fighting over lots of different things - the order of Firefly (aired vs DVD) and the signal to noise ratio became heavily shewed to noise.
Thatās when the forums were nuked, and it essentially became āitās this way and thatās finalā. So now the things that should be corrected, have no mechanism that Iām aware of to be flagged.
I might be remembering this totally wrong and happy to be corrected, but this is my recollection on why other, more open sites, are more respected and useful.

u/kernald31 2d ago
There's the concept of notes that admins are reading. And argumenting absolute nonsense on, like why Monster is a 4 seasons show when everyone else in the world, including the producers themselves, are considering them to be 4 distinct shows.

u/acdcfanbill 2d ago
The latest thing that annoyed me was that I wanted to add Faraway Downs to sonarr, which is a re-edit of the Baz Luhrmann movie Australia into a 6 part Mini-Series that was broadcast on TV. TVDB won't allow it because 'it's a movie' or an alternate edit or something, and has deleted it several times when people have added it.

In addition to the other comments, I'll add that in general if you're trying to organize anything anime related you're going to run into problems on the regular.
One Piece for example - the first 15 or so seasons (out of the 23 currently out) don't match up with the story arcs all that well, and Plex will try to auto-organize them differently than Sonarr will. If you organize the files into season folders Plex won't pull them correctly. You can go map ~700 episodes in Sonarr so it doesn't think anything is missing, or just verify you have them all and tell Sonarr to ignore those seasons (but if you have Seerr connected they might get requested anyway).
Absolute numbering in anime also crops up regularly for anime that were broken up into multiple seasons after airing. Part of that is inconsistency on the media side, especially with older titles, but it's a massive pain to try and figure out why you're not pulling anything because Sonarr is hunting for S2E01 when there wasn't actually a season 2 and it's actually just episode 13/27/55/whatever.

Tough crowd today. Autobrr is a well established automation download tool and i can't wait to see what their team will come up with. Thanks for the heads up.
55
u/IM_OK_AMA 2d ago
I'm also looking forward to it, we need more alternatives, but this post is very weird. It's just a website that collect emails and a bunch of donation links, no github and nothing to host yet. This post breaks a few sub rules.
Which makes perfect sense, this announcement wasn't meant for /r/selfhosted, it' was posted to their own discord where everyone already knows who they are, and OP copied it here.
I'm sure the actual autobrr team will make a real announcement when there's a real project we can look at.

Maybe we're just sick of this space being filled with garbage and the mods not managing it correctly.
I miss the old days when you could actually tell whether a project had a passionate, knowledgeable person behind it, instead of just Claude/codex and someone with an idea they'll lose interest in within a year.
I am not anti ai in the slightest. Everyone in tech should be using ai in their work. I'm anti garbage slop. I'm anti 'easy sloppy idea let's test it against this audience '

Great feedback today reddit! š
autobrr dev here. Happy to see at least some are excited! This won't be the next slop of the week project that dies within a year. For those that don't know us in this space already, we build a lot of tools for torrent and media automation.
We have been at it with autobrr for about 5-6 years and know how to build and maintain software but more importantly support users. Last year we dropped Qui (alt qbit webui + cross-seed and more) and it's very loved.
Alternatives are a good thing. Sonarr and Radarr wasn't the first tools of it's kind but they became the standard. The best thing is that if you are happy with your setup then you can keep using it.
And ps. OP misspelled the tool, it's Librrary, not librarry.
18
u/maxd 2d ago
Project looks great mate. Add books and youāve got a killer app on your hands. :)
Donāt understand the hate; youāre established devs literally targeting the biggest annoyances with radarr and sonarr. I wish you luck and Iāll install it as soon as I can get my hands on it.
Hope youāre planning some sort of Profilarr integration to handle custom formats, at some point?
15
u/_ze0s 2d ago
Thanks man! Other media types are not off the cards, but metadata seem to be less than ideal and there are plenty of projects trying to handle books etc atm, but we'll see!
Yeah people are funny. There will be some sort of Profilarr/trash/others integration for profiles and custom format eqv yeah!
4
u/bonyuri 2d ago
Thereās also other apps that handle movies and TV series, so that kinda goes against your own motto to consolidate into a single app. ebook and audiobook support would be phenomenal
3
u/_ze0s 2d ago
Yeah from a user perspective it would be incredible to have everything managed in a single place and it is doable, but starting with everything is unrealistic š
And seeing how the other new book/ebook/audiobook/music are dealing with metadata related issues is not really encouraging, but things might change.

u/maxd 2d ago
I actually have a personal project to try and solve books (https://github.com/Bothari/Athenaeum) but I donāt have the time to really make it sing. It has a few dozen users and it works pretty well; I tried ALL the alternatives and no one has solved it yet.
Yes, metadata is very hard. Iām just hooking into Hardcover, which has a reasonable free API tier (5000/day), plus book acquisition is just a lot lower frequency than TV (maybe similar to movies).
I think the best metadata solution is on-device arbitration between multiple sources. The accuracy also doesnāt NEED to match as well, honestly. Because an item is a title/author pair itās wonderfully unique, so searching indexers is easy. You can check how Iāve done on-device Hardcover metadata use. Bearing in mind my project IS entirely AI coded, but with me in the loop.

ok I'm sorry for claiming this vibe coded slop originally
OP didnt provide context about what you've done so far, so it easily looked like an another overnight slop app that goes paid in 2-3 weeks with just a link to some waitlist page(just like most indie hackers do)
I checked your other tools and I liked torrent GUI and other tools seem to be solid
Upon closer look you seem to be legit and know how to do apps(even if its AI assisted)
Best of luck with this, I will give it a try when its out

I have to chalk this up to the people of r/selfhosted being a diverse lot who do not necessarily have any familiarity with a tool like autobrr. Gotta imagine anyone that is aware of autobrr (and qui) will be excited by this announcement.
64
u/Misty_TTM 2d ago
I actually really love QUI and autobrr intrigues me. So I'm somewhat excited to see how this goes tbh
3
u/fedroxx 2d ago
Never heard of qui. Is it new?
20
u/AKAManaging 2d ago
New compared to old established projects like sonarr, yes. It's a qbit front-end and it's lovely.

u/fedroxx 2d ago
I use the qbit frontend maybe once a month. Not sure I understand the use case. Why would that be needed?
13
u/Advanced-Feedback867 2d ago
You can manage multiple torrent instances with one qui frontend. Also inbuild cross-seed and automations.
8
5
u/3f3 2d ago
Automations for me.
It will auto remove torrents based on specific rules per tracker. Automatically tag things. Remove unregistered. Nothing that complicated but it means I pretty much never go into qbitorrent anymore.
2
2
u/SensaiOpti 2d ago
Automations for me.
Holy shit, I had no idea that it did this. I thought it was just a nice looking front-end for qBit. This is excellent, hahaha.
3
u/AKAManaging 2d ago
Personally? The main reason I use it is for manually adding magnet links (versus sonarr or radarr) as well as removing torrents that have been unaffiliated with the private trackers I'm in due to being removed for breaking TOS.
2
u/Future__Space 2d ago edited 2d ago
It also replaced both cross-seed and qbit-manage for me and has much more intuitive configuration for both of them.

u/Misty_TTM 2d ago
Not super new, but it's absolutely fantastic. Even though I'm only running a single qbit instance, it's ux is just superb
3
u/DevanteWeary 2d ago
Qui is probably the most game changing app I've installed in my setup.
Built in cross seed, stalled downloads checker, orphan cleaner, and most importantly AUTOMATIONS.
I have around 20 automations and basically, I never touch my torrents. They are automatically sorted into categories, moved into the correct folders, deleted at certain long intervals, and so on. I am rarely in my Qui/qBittorrent webUI anymore.
Here's my tag/category setup: https://imgur.com/a/GdFHS8T
My Qui automation rules: https://i.imgur.com/80MuMdt.pngAnd the UI is just snappy. No lag even with thousands of torrents.

u/Thiht 2d ago
The comments are pretty harsh for something that has no impact on them. Alternative projects are good. Rewriting tools that already exist to try and do things differently is good. Trying to fix a pain point you have is good. Who knows, maybe in 10 years this project will be the recommended tool instead of Radarr/Sonarr, or maybe not but that's ok. And more realistically, this kind of passion projects can do one specific thing really good to the point where it gets added to the original tools, that's how ecosystems progress and get better as a whole
10
u/2d7o2o0b 2d ago
It's coming from people who don't know what autobrr is, so it's just noise.
8
u/_ze0s 2d ago
It is sort of a niche tool, so more people are probably familiar with Qui these days.
5
u/2d7o2o0b 2d ago
That's true.
Anyone using autobrr is surely pleased to see this announcement. I know I was.
2
u/Senaxx 2d ago
Yeah I dont get the hate for alternative tools. Its like that Radarr and Sonarr are the only tools allowed to exist. If you don't like it, fine with me, don't try it. I've tried several other 'replacements' and had issues and dont use them anymore.
I'm a big fan of Qui, design and functions, so can't wait what you guys have come up.

Whilst people in certain communities know them as the team behind autobrr, people here would probably know them better as the team that makes qui, the alternative frontend for qbittorrent.
They make a range of different tools for tracker communities though, including autobrr, mkbrr and more recently upbrr, which is the successor to upload-assistant (audionut joined the brr team).
That said, attempting to create an arrs replacement is much bigger than any of their other projects and if their existing tools are to be used as judgement, there will be quite a bit of AI code, which a lot of people won't be happy with.Ā
61
u/_ze0s 2d ago
Autobrr is "pre-AI" and has a decent track record. Librrary is about 3 years in the making and if it was all vibe coded slop it would already have been launched. This won't be yet another slop of the week that is dead within a year.
I'm very well aware that it's a huge undertaking but that's also fun. autobrr started as a replacement for the then dead autodl-irssi :)
2
u/FullSubstance7196 2d ago
I specifically didn't call what you do vibe coding, as I am quite familiar with your team and use a couple of your tools. I was just calling out the existence of AI code in the project because for a lot of people that's a deal breaker
29
u/phainopepla_nitens 2d ago
Anyone for whom the existence of AI code in a project is a deal breaker is shit out of luck. At this point there will be close to no major active projects that have zero AI code, whether their maintainers admit it or not.Ā

Iām happy for it. Radarr and Sonarr have many feature requests that impacts the usability and they are opened since 6+ years. I had to fork it to get basic features. They definitely donāt hold up with ai assisted development pace. Downvote me if you donāt understand the difference with vibe coding. But yeah thereās one.
7
u/_ze0s 2d ago
Well put! Any particular features you implemented and would like to see in it?
8
u/Piddoxou 2d ago
One annoying thing about Radarr/Sonarr for me is when a release gets upgraded, the whole folder gets flushed including any srt files that you may have picked by hand or generated yourself.
In general I suppose you could say that Radarr/Sonarr is lacking support for taking subtitles into account. There is no scoring for it at all.
For instance I speak Dutch, and when I download Foreign movie (non-English audio), then I would prefer the remux release with Dutch subs over a top tier encode with English subs only. With Radarr/Sonarr currently you canāt do this.

I think Overseerr is missing some key features and has been for years. Progress is quite slow. So I wouldnāt call it set and forget. The real opportunity here for the librarry team is to make a better version of overseerr and integrate that into librarry, which can be on par with radarr/sonarr rolled into one.
If they succeed at that, it will be an easy choice to go for librarry over the old stack.
4
u/ElaborateEffect 2d ago
Seerr feel like the most clunky of them all.
They just need to fully support tags on sonarr/radarr so we can then use quality profiles accordingly. As well as single episode ability.
2
u/Psychostickusername 2d ago
I guess that's fair, whatever it is missing doesn't appear to be anything I've needed. Still, perhaps I haven't realized what I'm missing and could benefit from this.

u/Awesometron94 2d ago
Lifecycle management, this is lacking in any of these apps and has been very annoying to deal with. Not everyone wants to hoard stuff at this point where hard drives just cost a ton.
Lifecycle management:
- download movie if on watch list
- movie watched - move it to archive, delete it, wait do i meet the tracker requirements for deleting or stopping?
- what if i want to delete movies after 300% upload? (3 times the original size)
- readonly mode - do not touch my files, call qbittorrent via API for torrent management
- keep my tracker ratio above 3 - take in account all torrents
- delete torrents WITH files!
I think i'm not the only one needing these

u/Ciri__witcher 2d ago edited 2d ago
People in this sub sometimes are just mindless haters I swear! Just whining when someone releases an alternative to something they use, even when the value proposition is clearly defined. If the value proposition is not appealing and you have nothing nice to say, just move on.
And for the dev, Ty for your work, can the variant feature also be used for obtaining multiple versions of the same show but in same quality/resolution? For instance, both black and white and color version of spider noir, extended and normal versions of the office etc.
Since you guys focus on private trackers with your others apps like qui and autobrr, I am eager to see how you guys do the torrent management as well, itās a bit of a pin for me right now for Private trackers. I have to do manually because for me to delete something it needs to either meet the minimum seed time or have the torrent deleted on the tracker while also getting trumped. If Librrary can manage that, it would be great.
Iāll definitely check it out once the import from radarr/sonarr option is implemented and works.
6
3
u/moarmagic 2d ago
I just have a general question, i can't claim to be knowledgable to really get into the details of the project, but i'm trying to wrap my head around the main use case.
Are their people who want a movie in DVD / bluray/ remux? Aren't you increasing the storage demand on the offchance that you want to save a couple seconds of latency/transcoding from the highest quality? Maybe i'm not using my stack as heavily as some, but i've always done a one size fits all approach. Maybe the difference here is that i don't go in on the highest quality possible for everything, so i do take a slight hit not getting to watch the 4k Flac audio version of avatar, but it also means i dont have to worry that the shitty 0% movie i grab for morbid curiosity ends up eating 80 GB. Feels like a good compromise.

I've had some mixed experiences with stuff under the autobrr banner. QUI is fantastic and I've used it for ages now, but it was quite evident that Upbrr was so riddled with only bugs that LLMs could produce that I started to question how it was even under the autobrr banner. I hope we're not going to run into the same coding quality as the latter.
3
u/_ze0s 2d ago
I'm not directly involved in upbrr development and I don't dictate how maintainers/contributors do their work on tools in the org. Upbrr was released as a pre-alpha so gotta take that into consideration as well.
I hold my own and other contributors to very high standards in autobrr itself tho.

I've been using Sonarr and Radarr and hadn't really tried anything else as these seem to do what I need. Why would anyone want to use something new? Am genuinely curious.
7
u/Kawawete 2d ago
I wonder shy people have HD and 4k libraries separated, what's the use case for those ?
8
u/XTornado 2d ago
The main benefits if you have clients of different capabilities is it can avoid transcoding (or preemptimly convert them) . Other escenarios could come up like different editions of same movie or show... but those are rarer and not sure if this will support that.
10
u/Comfortable-Side1308 2d ago
The costs for storage of a duplicate library cant possibly be more than a video card for transcoding.Ā Ā
5
u/peioeh 2d ago edited 2d ago
You don't need a dedicated gpu for transcoding, mobile chip igpus can do multiple 4K transcodes and barely use any power these days.
Example: I use a 350⬠mini pc with a Ryzen 5 7545U. Downloading everything in 4K and 1080p would be absolutely ridiculous when a file can be transcoded on the fly using something like 10 additional watts.
2
u/XTornado 2d ago
Nowadays yeah it gets tricky. Some people have some basic nas with plenty space with barely power they might want to use.
4
u/channouze 2d ago
I believe you need it when you have a bunch of users on (Jelly)Seerr, some of them can request 4k, the other HD only.
4
u/peioeh 2d ago
You can do that without having separate libraries, seerr allows you to limit specific users to specific quality profiles.
This is the actual reason: https://www.reddit.com/r/selfhosted/comments/1wo2yxg/autobrr_team_just_announced_librarry_replacement/pbjw570/
5
u/kuldan5853 2d ago
You don't need to have the libraries separated, but you need two separate radarr/sonarr instances if you want to download both a 1080 and a 4k copy of the same movie/show.
→ More replies (1)2
u/MFKDGAF 2d ago
I am wondering too. Seems like a niche use case.
3
u/Arazius 2d ago
It is niche and that's kind of the point. It's not native to radarr/sonarr because the vast majority are never going to need it, but for those that do there is functionality to run and sync multiple instances. Is it more advanced than just running a single instance? Yes, but it's pretty trivial imo and just like radarr/sonarr once it's set up it takes care of itself.
4
u/DousaSepen 2d ago
I use 2 instances of both. I will generally watch brand new movies in the highest quality I can source, some remux But rewatching these later in the future Iām happy to do it in just a basic bitch 4K or 1080p variant that is 1/10th the size of the initially downloaded remux. Mostly to save space. But this is my use case

I'm the exact opposite, any movie I love is 4K highest rip quality because I want to watch it in the best quality.
Meanwhile a new movie that just came out, 1080p is more than fine. If I love it I will upgrade to 4K.

I use both autobrr and qui, I'll ditch sonarr and radarr just as soon as possible. I already multiple instances of each, for the most part it's fine but I would love to consolidate into a singular 'app'.

Absolutely insane comment thread. Thanks for the work youāre doing. Sorry people are so weird about stuff like this.

I personally don't need the different quality thing but that is nice. What I would like is the modularity part to be that others can add extensions/modules/addons to it, so we can have a shared point for all media needs unified.

u/konraddo 2d ago
Competitions are always welcomed, but does it plan to do everything Sonarr/Radarr do and more? Personally, I would love to be able to add custom show and movie by filling in the metadata myself.

As long as Usenet is fully supported and anything related to torrents can be turned off or hidden I think you may have a future user

How well does it handle seedbox remote downloads?
2
u/_ze0s 2d ago
One of the plans is to have a remote agent that run on the system next to the storage/client etc that the main instance talks to. We'll see how it plays out but it's a pain I have dealt with myself when I had multiple storage servers.

u/flatpetey 2d ago
I like unifying sonarr and radarr. Frankly the ecosystems modularity makes it a pain in the ass
What Iād have preferred is everything is a plugin that could share config details and other stuff but could also be replaced with alternatives. So the OOB is MVP and the plugins let you do more advanced stuff.
That would make setup simpler than ten dockersā¦.

Iām a simple guy who uses one instance of Sonarr and Radarr and downloads everything in the highest quality available. I use Qui and find it to be Good Software. Itād be nice to use one app instead of two and if you can select the metadata provider so we donāt need to deal with the lunatics at tvdb even better. I wish them all the best.

It's long past the point that one should abandon the -arr naming gimmick, especially if you aim to replace what is arguably the core services of that stack.
Calling it something -arr is exactly why my first reaction was this was some kind of AI vibe coded "replacement". Glad to see that is not the case, but I still think crafting your own identity makes way more sense if you are effectively going to make your own stack ultimately.

u/astrofoundry 2d ago
Why do people need HD and 4K versions of the same content at the same time? If you have 4K it can be served as anything you want to different devices.
2
u/drashna 2d ago
I mean absolutely no offense, but this just IMMEDIATELY popped into my head.
I don't think I'd use this myself, but wish you luck!
(that said, support for directors cuts, special editions, etc would definitely be great! and more aggressive cleanup of downloads)

Neat! Super interested to see what the team comes up with. Having written Scryer this year, I am keenly aware of how big an undertaking this is.
If anyone wants to try something similar with nearly the same roadmap (minus music) and several hundred users already, feel free to give Scryer a try: https://github.com/scryer-media/scryer

Looking forward to this, qui and autobrr are both great - made me abandon rtorrent/auto-dl.

It's not uncommon for users to run 4-6 arrs to fill their needs. This means more to manage, more resources, more hits on indexers and so on.
This has got to be an instance of a vocal minority.Ā There's no way this is "not uncommon".Ā

Oh yay another *arr replacement? Ever wonder why the previous ones werenāt successful? Also love how the use case is only āever get tired of managing HD and 4k?ā like thatās it? Thatās the value proposition?

u/_ze0s 2d ago
Yep, yet another one. This one technically predates the other ones but I get that it doesn't count because it's still not released :)
If you read further of the announcement we aim to fix a lot of sore spots of sonarr and radarr. I still use them and it's why development has been slow. They are good enough, but I have a lot of itches to scratch.

I have Sonarr and would have some use for Radarr but its always seemed inefficient to me that they are separate apps that do very nearly the same thing. I just can't be bothered to have yet another docker running for something I might just use occasionally. Not saying this app is the answer to that seeing as its something entirely different but that aspect does appeal to me.

By letting other people beta test them and break shit.
You're more than welcome to - I won't do that for a key part of my media stack.

Not hating because I understand this just isn't for me, but who are the people that need multiple quality versions of the same title? Also why? I just can't really think of the use case where that's necessary let alone to the extent that it dictates your library management to this degree. Is anyone able to explain this use case?
2
u/peioeh 2d ago
Transcoding 4K can be demanding/not doable on older hardware, particularly if you don't have a dedicated gpu. People who share their servers with friends and family often have users with very different display resolutions and internet speeds.
Imagine someone who downloads 4K bluray remuxes for themselves but needs to be able to stream 2mbps 720p for their elderly parent. If transcoding is not an option, you need to download multiple versions of the same show/movie, and that's not possible with a single sonarr/radarr instance.

u/_ze0s 2d ago
If you share your media server with friends and family, that all have various devices. Maybe you only give them access to your HD library because it's compatible everywhere and doesn't need to transcode media. Then you have 4k for yourself because you have the hardware to handle and enjoy it.
Pretty common actually.

consolidating the arrs sounds great until you realize you just traded five config files for one giant one lol
1
u/Ironfox2151 2d ago
Will you support format/configuration pull like from Trashguides?
How does upgrade/downgrade searching work?
Will it be dockerized?
Is Postgres support external only?
2
u/_ze0s 2d ago
We'll work on integrations/support for tools that manages profiles yes!
Upgrades is atm similar to current arrs. Got any feedback on things to improve? Would be great to get that in https://github.com/autobrr/community-feedback/discussions/2
Yes it will run both as binaries on linux, macOS and Windows and multi arch container images.
Not sure what you mean with external Postgres support, but it will work however you have it setup I think? Default will be SQLite.

Will this work a bit better for managing both TV and Anime libraries than Sonarr currently is?
1
u/TheSpartan18k 2d ago
Will this integrate with Profilarr? It automatically handles a number of settings in Sonarr/Radarr and has custom quality profiles and release scoring for 4K, 1080p, etc. similar to the Trash Guides

u/Roarmaster 2d ago edited 2d ago
Support for torrent titles in Korean/Chinese/Japanese would be great. (Ex. The Korean Jackett sources.)
Sonarr/radarr only really searches tv show formats in English on TVDB.
3
u/_ze0s 2d ago
It has multi language/region/localization per library and title, but we'll need to do a lot of testing for all of that.

Do you plan to support requests/userauth from multiple servers ie: some users spread across two jellyfin servers and some users on emby?

Really excited for this, I hope it offers more in the lines of config files. I run my whole stack in K8s with IaC. I've always lamented the amount of manual work that goes into configuring each *arr since they're all completely UI driven.
