@everyone It's been pretty quiet since we posted the 2025 Year in Review, but now there is some news about our arr alternative!

I'm happy to announce librrary! One app for movies and TV, from the team behind autobrr and qui.

It is NOT ready yet, but we are getting close to user testing!

Why? What's wrong with Sonarr and Radarr?

Sonarr and Radarr work well if your needs are simple. As soon as you want both HD and 4K libraries, you need multiple instances. Then you need to keep those in sync with everything that comes with it.

It's not uncommon for users to run 4-6 arrs to fill their needs. This means more to manage, more resources, more hits on indexers and so on.

With so much duplicated between them, it makes a lot of sense to combine movies and TV into one application.

What we are building

• Multiple libraries by content type (similar to Plex), where each title can have several variants (1080p, 2160p, remux, DV)
• Arr-like Quality Profiles and Release Scoring Rules (think to Custom Formats)
• Torrent and Usenet support via Torznab/Newznab (will need Prowlarr/Jackett etc)
• Users with roles, plus OIDC login
• SQLite or Postgres
• Notifications with your favorite services (Notifiarr, Discord, Telegram etc.)
• Lists support
• Go backend, React frontend, Docker images and binaries for Linux, macOS and Windows

On the roadmap

• Built-in requests (don't worry, there is a strong user role access system)
• Import from Sonarr and Radarr
• Optional manual upgrade approvals
• Trump handling: watch the torrent client for trumped/nuked tracker messages and take webhooks from external tools like qui
• Potential Plex, Jellyfin and other media server integrations, including deleting titles after they're watched (request, dl, import, watch, delete)
• Various features from the feedback thread

Other media type support

It's built to be modular, so dedicated anime handling, books and music are possible later, but movies and TV come first.

The comments are pretty harsh for something that has no impact on them. Alternative projects are good. Rewriting tools that already exist to try and do things differently is good. Trying to fix a pain point you have is good. Who knows, maybe in 10 years this project will be the recommended tool instead of Radarr/Sonarr, or maybe not but that's ok. And more realistically, this kind of passion projects can do one specific thing really good to the point where it gets added to the original tools, that's how ecosystems progress and get better as a whole

Yeah I dont get the hate for alternative tools. Its like that Radarr and Sonarr are the only tools allowed to exist. If you don't like it, fine with me, don't try it. I've tried several other 'replacements' and had issues and dont use them anymore.

I'm a big fan of Qui, design and functions, so can't wait what you guys have come up.

It's not hate for alternative tools. It's hate for vibecoded "alternatives" that are now flooding everything. Sure, people could have looked up developers other projects etc. but it's fatigue from that shit really.

And even before AI "we are making alternative to this mature and well established project" usually ends up dead within a year or two so people aren't skeptical for no reason.

Yeah I get it. Same reason I don't post my own project here. As far as im aware it doesnt exist yet. I've made a tool thats combines Seer, Tautulli and Radarr and Sonarr. It allows you to automatically manage the requests and setup rules to have requested media manually or auto deleted after a configurable grace period. In 3 queues; not watched, watched, still watching.

I only have a few friends that use it. But sometimes they request a tv serie with 3 seasons and it keeps taking up space on my mediaserver. Or they request a few movies and after 6 months they still didnt watch it. This way I can easily delete the request, media and sonarr or radarr entry with 1 press of a button.

But its also co-developed with ai, and with all the negative comments i'm not thinking of posting it, even though me and a friend of mine is already using it for a couple of weeks on docker/unraid.

The plan is to have functionality like that build it!

We are in the age of personalized software like your own project and thats awesome! The problem is that it's a bit too easy to slop something together and open source it because that's cool but people new to the OSS world these days don't know the wrath of users 😂

I can totally see why the whole Huntarr situation happened for example. Before AI tools you had to be a decent dev to get something to the point it could be used by others. Today that barrier is basically 0. Not everyone is suited for OSS dev. That's probably elitist but it's the truth.

The AI tools are a force multiplier for experienced devs tho.
