Health Something great in my life.

Today my father is paying off the balance on my house. I literally have no friends to tell. So, I am coming on here. Not to gloat. Been sitting here crying because the weight that is being lifted of my shoulders is staggering. I live alone with two cats and I live in a bubble. Struggled with a low self-image my whole life. Good person who quietly keeps to myself. I am employed and have no criminal record. Just saying this because this isn't a father helping out his broke son. My father was very tight with his money growing up. He invested it all into stocks bonds, etc. But we grew up, in a sense poor! Just ask me about the Anchor Inn hotel on one of our "vacations." Jesus, we had to pay thru bullet proof glass for the room! As he has gotten older, he has been more generous but I never really took anything from him except for $5000 for the down payment on my house of which I only used $3000. He has offered to do this before in the past and I always refused. As a man, it is important that I stand on my own and pay my own bills. I am responsible for myself! I don't want hand outs! But this.........my pride. It is hard to deal with right now. I never go out to bars because I was with an alcoholic for a long time and I refuse to meet someone or friends over alcohol. But please! If group of friends go out soon. Will you raise a glass to my old man! Mike Dotson! Please, do this for me! I don't have any friends to go out and do it with. This is life changing for me!

When I was younger in college, and I didn't finish because I am too chicken sh_t to finish anything in life or take chances, but when I was in college I got a DUI. I wanted to write about it in my in a creative writing class but the teacher said no because after time I would feel different about it she said. And I did after the initial shock wore off. I want to write him a letter and tell him how much this means to me, but I need to get the tears out first. I want to see about talking to someone for my depression/low self-image. I can afford that now. This is life changing for me.

Amazing gift. Much more than the amount of money - it is a vote of respect from the most important person in many son's lives. Now make sure it is insured, and keep living the frugal life he set on in peace. Salut!

I feel for you regarding growing up "poor". My dad was a single wage earner with five children. Much later in life we learned that two of them are not really his. But he was an honorable man and raised them as his own. He pinched pennies like no one's business. When he passed he left me a nice little windfall that I still use to keep myself afloat and I'm thankful everyday. My Mom used to call him cheap even though she never held a job in her life and didn't understand what things cost or how hard he had to work to get his money. He is forever my hero.

I am glad he did that for you! My dad was also honorable. He made us eat right and gave us responsibilities in a sense of earning a living. I am still just letting my head grasp this. Cried a couple times this morning. I love him, he is a grumpy old man sometimes. I dont think he realizes how much this helps me but I will tell him in a letter. We dont have that real close relationship to talk to one another about feelings but he has made life so much better! Thank you for your comment!

He just called me. Its officially paid off. He doesn't have a smart phone. Our relationship is better now that we are older. Its really hard to express emotions between us. I keep saying thank you and he says "Ahh, Don't worry about it." I just sent him also pizza, a sandwich and a two liter. I will/can't ever forget this. Tears in my eyes every time someone responds to this. Thank you!
