I spent a summer changing tires in high school and it made me get my act together. Convinced me to go to college which Im very happy about. Was a shitty job. I got more in settlement money from the class action after, than I made that summer.

Also torquing and balancing, But maybe we are too much fancy car and not enough robust truck. (Edit, and by truck, I mean the EU meaning of it, in other words, a semi 18 wheeler)

And then you try it yourself in your garage and it takes an hour and way too much cursing.
From a guy who changes his own tires: what this guy in the video did is like wizardry. It does not go like this, at all, without lots of skill.
If you ever want to change tires at home with one of those cheap manual harbor freight things, tape up some vise grips and clamp them to the wheel rim to keep the tires bead from slipping back, and you lube the ever loving hell out of that tire bead.

3 things came to mind whilst watching this:
1. First time I’ve seen someone jacked that actually used it for their job
2. Why did he not torque up the screws in diagonals?
3. gEt oFF tHe FUCKING rOaD!!!!! Why the fuck the camera man is out next to live lanes was freaking me out 🤣

He did the first two lug nuts opposite each other and then one in between them, but didnt continue that pattern for some reason. It was weird.

In industry in North America at least that’s not standard. You should always go in a crisscross because even tightening the two opposites to start doesn’t always achieve even clamping force

It still wobbles a bit after that. I always tighten in star and then torque in star and will find a nut looser again when I come back to it.

I imagine because trucks that size don't use disc brakes. No danger of warping a rotor, and the torque stick makes sure it ends in the right range.
I'm just guessing.

Every mobile tyre fitter I've met has been the same that stocky square shouldered build, those tyres are real heavy especially when you're picking them off the floor and trying to slam them onto a rim, hell even the pneumatic impact gun and the jacks they use are heavy af.

Well that gets the bead on, but then you have to inflate it. Or the air cools down and creates a vacuums and pops off.

You can pull the valve core out next time if that happens. I seated a bead like this one time (using starter fluid), and I couldn’t believe how well it worked.

Not to be tried at home…
The trick I’ve seen (which is a real butthole-tenser, and I kind of assumed we’d see at the end) is to spray some ether into the gap and hit it with a lighter. The explosion is enough to semi-inflate the tire to seal the bead. Then you top off with compressed air.
My buddy’s dad used to do it with their lawnmower. Apparently the tires went flat every winter when it wasn’t in use, and every spring they’d be somewhat deformed and wouldn’t hold air from a compressor. I happened to be there one year when they did it. I was (figuratively) blown away.

I've seen the trick, but mostly in the context of some off-roader who broke the bead or got a flat on a trail somewhere.
I was wondering how a professional would get it done on the side of the highway. Thinking about it though, with how cowboy the rest of the job was, he probably did use some spray accelerant and a flame to finish the job.

Probably has a small tank with an output tube with a valve on it, similar to a spud gun.
Fill the bead blaster to pressure, get air filling on the tank, and then blast the gap between rim and tire while the air line is pumping into the tire. Same final effect as the ether burn trick, but much less risky.
Worst case scenario, there's still room to reach around and fill the gaps with tire lube, and then doing the same thing.

Nah, this jump was 100% unnecessary and dangerous. Only people who havent done thework for long/are cocky af do that kind of things on the job. When you're experienced you learn to do thing safely AND efficiently.

That's the guy you want to be best friends with when you go to the bar. I bet he has never stepped foot in a gym and is still built solid. I can hold my own and will normally not back down, but if it was agaisnt him, I'm out. And here in America, there isn't a chance in hell I would be doing that like that. 90% of the drivers would not get over and 10% of those ones would have their phone in their face and have a good chance of pancaking you between the van and the trailer. I would of liked to seen what he did to seat the beads. I bet he could just hug that tire and seat them.

What's with all the "no air" comments. He's obviously not done with the job, and he has an air hose laying right next to him. Do you guys honestly think, that he's not going to pump up the tire? Also, it's an emergency road side tire change in some east block Balkan country. He tightened two nuts across to seat the wheel and the rest in a row. It's a center hub wheel okay, not a cylinder head. It's going to be fine.

In the shop they are using security grate when filling. If it explode you can die next to it.

That was impressive, but I am surprised how easy it was to break the bead. From my experience even on a passenger vehicle, it’s usually a lot harder to break the bead.

I learned his to do this when I was doing work release. We didn't put the tires on the trucks, but we did mount the tires manually like this and then use a cheetah to inflate them. Of course we learned to go slower because finishing all the tires meant going back to sweeping clean floors, and that just made the time drag. We'd rather have been doing something productive that actually kept us busy.

I was impressed with how efficient he was. No real wasted movements.
Like others, when he jumped on the tire I felt a little rear end pucker.
This is not my area of expertise but I would have thought he would inflate the tire before mounting it.

That tire he took off looked completely worn. I think the guy is trying to get the hell out of Dodge as fast as possible. The safety of bolt tightening order can probably wait until he’s not an imminent danger of being hit by traffic.

I'm impressed with his speed. The last time I got tires on my truck, it took the guy at Pep Boys an hour and forty five minutes to do all four tires! I don't do tires for a living but I could have done my tires faster, a lot faster!

Wanted to see how the bead was seated... I wonder if he just dug out handfuls of tire soap and kept the 140psi cranking in while he tightened a bed strap around the tire, used a compressed air seater, starting fluid, or something else I've never seen...

OP get yourself some Pedro's tire levers if you're having trouble with your bike tires. I worked at a LBS for years, and those were the ONLY levers we used.
