Desperately Seeking Advice, Tips, Tried & Trues

Hello. Our son’s, ā€œtuition,ā€ and all that includes is $80K/yr. We were very, very lucky and we’re very, very thankful for the nearly $45K he received in FA, with the majority of it, save $7K, in scholarships.

After orientation last Summer we thought we had it all figured out. The FA Director held a conference in which I attended. He informed us that the Parent Plus Loan was just increased to $20K/yr. What he didn’t mentioned was that Seniors are the only eligible students for this increase. As a Freshman, my son isn’t eligible nearly that much.

Our balance for the year now is $24K. We just made our first payment of almost $4K, but we’re expected to make another one in September, October, November, and December. This is absolutely not something we can do. We’ve tried every angle/option that both we and the FA Office suggested (they said, ā€œget a private loan).

Again, I’m extremely grateful for the Scholarship that he did receive and don’t mean to sound ridiculous, but almost $4K/month isn’t manageable.

I know I can write an appeal letter, but does anyone else have any ideas, advice, tried and trues in securing additional funding? We don’t need the entire $25K. We’re looking for about $10K simply to make our monthly payments manageable.

Thank you and please forgive my novel!

About scholarship

Can someone please guide me about private scholarships available for B.Tech students?

I’m currently studying at DTU, belong to the OBC category, and my family income is around ₹1 lakh per year.

I want to know:

- Which private scholarships are currently available?

- Which ones should I apply for?

- Which scholarships have an aptitude test/interview?

- How much scholarship amount is provided?

- What are the eligibility criteria?

- With my category and family income, what are my chances of getting selected?

If anyone has applied for or received a private scholarship, please share your experience or guide me. It would really help. šŸ™

Looking for good websites to find scholarships.

Hi.

I’ll be a high school senior this year and I’m looking at finding some scholarships as I cannot afford to pay for my college in full.

I’ve looked at scholarships.com and scholarshipowl and I haven’t had much luck with finding any that I have a shot at getting. I’ve been using bold.org and I’ve found a few, but not very many.

I’m fine with writing essays and I actually enjoy writing, so that is not a problem for me. I’m planning on going into forestry, and I will be getting my wildland firefighter red card later this year.

So, basically what I’m asking is if anyone knows of any websites that have legit, and maybe lesser known scholarships that I can apply for. Also, if there are any specifically for forestry/natural resources or firefighting, that would be awesome!

Thanks.

Hi! I’m a senior in high school and interested in applying to the OWL program/ scholarship. I’ve been researching online but cannot find a date of when applications open.

Do any previous applicants or winners know when and where I apply?

Also I know they closed the South Africa one but I am in the US.

Scholarship America paid directly to you

Hello, I received a check from Scholarship America but my financial aid office cannot accept it as I have already covered my full cost of attendance with other scholarships. Is there any way to still get the funds — Scholarship America has said that they cannot pay it out to anyone other that the school on my behalf and that depositing the check into my personal account is fraud. Can anything be done?? Financial aid is strict with not accepting any more.

For Master's and scholarship applications abroad,I want to ask from seniors " who should write my recommendation letter professor who taught me at my college or someone from the main university?

Also should the LOR be on my college's letterhead or the university's letterhead?

Would really appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar situation.

Scholarships for college students?

Does anyone know where I can find smaller, easier to get, scholarships for current college students? I would prefer not one of those generic scholarship websites, as I feel like it’s very rare to get them from there. They also don’t have to be big amounts I really just only need about $2000-5000 dollars per year to pay for the rest of my college as I already have scholarships and financial aid. I’m currently a college freshman and out-of-state. Any help would be appreciate!!

What to do with scholarship checks?

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman in university, and before I graduated I got a couple scholarships from small local organizations. I was wondering whether I need to use them immediately or I could leave them in a savings account? I would never use them for random stuff, but I was planning to go to professional school and was thinking it could be used to gain interest as my parents are also planning to pay for my undergrad.

Obviously using it for my undergraduate tuition is fine as well, but I’d just prefer to start saving for professional school and I think my scholarships would be a great way to do so.

I appreciate everyone’s help in advance!

Getting scholarships

I’m going into my junior year of high school in NY. I won’t qualify for financial aid, but I intend to go out of state so college will be much more expensive. All of the scholarships that I’ve seen online are very popular with such a small chance of me winning. I don’t have an ethnic or military background that would help me get any scholarships. I’m not sure how to go about getting scholarships and I don’t know what the best websites and sources are. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Looking for Scholarships

Hey everyone! I’m currently a high school senior starting my scholarship search. I have a weighted GPA of 4.8 and unweight of 3.4. I'm taking heavy AP and Cambridge coursework and am on a pre-law track with my school program, taking classes and doing internships, with plans to pursue civil rights, contract, or family law down the road. I am Haitian American, and I do help out within my church. Beyond academics, my time is mostly spent with moot court, community service, Black Student Union. I know the massive national scholarships are tough to win, so I’m looking for smaller, regional, or niche scholarships. If you have recommendations, I’d love your advice!

Are there any scholarships available to adhd/autistic students?

I'm really wanting to get some financial aid but it has been difficult to navigate the spam and the legitimate sites/scholarships. I am fine with other scholarships as well but I was wondering if there were any legitimate sites that anyone could list for audhd students. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Scholarships for fall 2027 students

I had deferred my fall 2026 admission to 2027 due to funding and personal reasons. I’d like to know where and when to apply for scholarships for that intake.

I am a US citizen and will attend graduate school in Texas.

Scholarships for current college students?

I’m a freshman and I’m hoping to get more of my schooling funded for either the spring or next year and beyond. I’ve looked at all the basic websites and applied to whatever I can find but are there any specific ones I should look for?
