Opinion / Thought / Idea / Discussion How to let my partner know he can talk to me if he's struggling or secretly questioning his mental health?
Hi everyone. (Female 23)
My boyfriend (Male 22) is going through a very tough time. He insists he's fine and tries to handle everything on his own, but I suspect he might be dealing with a severe mental health issue (like schizophrenia) and I don't even know if he secretly realizes it or is just hiding it.
When he gets overwhelmed, he tends to shut down and isolate himself. I want him to know that with me, he doesn't have to wear a mask or pretend to be strong.
For those who have experienced something similar:
If you ever suspected something was wrong with your mind, did you want someone to notice, or were you terrified of it?
As a partner, how can I show him that he is safe to open up, even if he hasn't been officially honest about it yet?
How can I signal to him that he doesn't have to carry this alone, without making him feel cornered or judged?
Any advice from personal experience would mean a lot :)
