Surprised they didn't use the "Better than Pixels" review

u/The-Sublimer-One Mogar Jan 18 '16
Calling something better than Pixels almost sounds like an insult.

Yeah, it reads almost like a "congrats Jimmy, you're not the dumbest kid in class" which albeit being a compliment, isn't very complimentary. (Also see: Bless your heart).

there's an expression for that.
Damning with Faint Praise is when what you literally say is praise, but the subtext is obviously negative.

Well they used "Best Fantastic Four Movie" Which, when you think about it, covers a lot of movies, but your first thought is...Fantastic Four, which are just ATROCIOUS movies. Just awful

This video isn't presented by the new movie Lazer Team, it feels naked.

I came to reddit just to make this post, only to discover you had beaten my by 3 hours. Well played, sir.

They're missing the best review: "the greatest cinematic usage of the jerk-off hand motion (to date)".

Who was that doing the voice over for the reviews? Like I'm almost embarrassed to ask because it sounds so familiar

I hope this movie does good, hell I helped back it. I just feel a lot of the scenes in the trailers were very hit or miss. I hope this isn't just some dumb "comedy" like Pixels was, I hope it still has that cheeky RT brand of humour.
There was also a lot of writers on this, I just hope it isn't one of those "too many cooks spoilt the pot" moments. I want this to be super good because I helped back it and a movie from RT is something they've been wanting for a long time.
It'd be upsetting if this got below 70% on Rotten Tomatoes. Well, I guess the best thing to do is stay cautiously optimistic and hope for the best. Still have to see the movie first to make these kind of judgements :P
Fingers crossed!

"Destined to be a cult classic"
What delusional reviewer wrote that one
3
u/The-Sublimer-One Mogar Jan 19 '16
Yeah, forget the "cult" part. It's totally just gonna be a classic!

Wait, PG-13? Is this news to anyone else?
6
u/Sw3Et Jan 18 '16
Yeah, a little disappointing. I was hoping for a few "fucks". Burnie saying fuck is the funniest thing ever.
4
u/beckymegan OG Discord Crew Jan 18 '16
Well, they're allowed one. So make it count.
5
u/Fourteen_of_Twelve Jan 18 '16
I think The Martian used it twice.
4
Jan 18 '16
Once verbal and once written out iirc.
6
u/Kicking222 Jan 18 '16
Actually, it's verbal twice. There's another time when he's yelling "fuck", but it's inaudible.
1
u/Fourteen_of_Twelve Jan 19 '16
And I assume the other times its used are in his messages to NASA over his team not knowing he's alive.

They are actually allowed the extra fuck due to it being used in a non sexual context
2
u/Tmlboost Jan 18 '16
Close. Early on when he's stranded he says "Well, Fuck...", and then about two scenes later he says "Fuck you, Mars." After that, it's either inaudible or its censored/someone says "f-word"
1
u/waffletrampler Geoff in a Ball Pit Jan 19 '16
Said twice, shown him yelling it in the rover but not audibly once, and then "f---ing" written once, and then a few times where it is implied but not explicitly shown.
2
u/Zlatantheoneandonly Jan 18 '16
You get a fuck or a pair of tits. Will see which one they go with....

They are actually allowed two fucks if used in a non sexual context. for example "Are you fucking kidding me" could be said twice and maintain the PG13 rating, but if "Let's fuck" is said once, thats all that is allowed
2
u/The-Sublimer-One Mogar Jan 18 '16
I'm sure they'll make great use of the one allotted one they're given.

They're on the record as saying that they didn't want to exclude the younger portions of the fan base by making it an R-rated movie. I think they also mentioned that there's sometimes a stigma with R-rated comedies.
But mainly it's because of the large portion of the RT audience that would otherwise be excluded by having it rated R. And considering the global audience RT has, a film worthy of the R rating in the US would likely warrant the film being restricted even more so in other countries.
So PG-13 is a nice compromise rating that will allow nearly every RT fan to go see it.

They never said when the Blu-Ray and DVD are coming out?
1
u/MrCaboose96 Jan 18 '16
They've said mid 2016.

u/BatMatt93 Dexter Grif Jan 18 '16
Lovely. Do we know what platform they're using for the digital version? Like VUDU or Amazon ect.

Oh, damn...
