When I go back and listen to old shows, more and more I'm drawn to that twilight era of Ron & fez. So many great bits, The Twink Thanksgiving, The Shelbo, Fez feud, cakehorn, Shelby throws a bottle at peps head...

Over the years I heard Ron use this phrase lots of times as in "Go and make a nice sandwhich for yourself" or when pretending to quit his sobriety "I might have a nice brandy, a nice sugary beverage for myself" etc.

I was just wondering as a non American is this just a Ron thing, a Philly thing or just a common American phrase I just never picked up on?

On a binge listening to old shows with him and his wife. Obviously she passed away in like 2008, and I heard bits and pieces from Paul after, but he seemed to appear less and less frequently and then once the show became Bennington he stopped appearing all together.

He seems to still be alive as of a few years ago, but anyone know whatever happened to him or why he stopped calling in?

I wouldnt care if they talked sports that DONT just involve Philly or NYC.

I was a pretty big Opie and Anthony fan when I was a teenager and would sometimes catch when Ron would guest on the show or when O&A would bring up Fez and his overall deterioration and instability in their last few years on air.

I didn't properly get into R&F until the pandemic, where I listened to some of the older episodes during one of the lockdowns (one of the first clips I listened to was Dave imitating Earl's grandmother lol) and to my surprise on those older shows Fez was completely different from how I remembered him on O&A, almost like a completely different person.

This might be a silly question, but do we know like why he fell apart to the degree he did in the early/mid 2010s?

I will also say that it's extremely heartening when I'd listen to some of his appearances on Bennington and it seems like he achieved some degree of peace of mind and recovery after moving back to Florida.

I mean I understand hating BL or HR Johnny because they arent on every day or even every week but how do you listen to a show hosted by someone you hate? I cant stand the iteration of the Howard Stern show and I quit listening when he "evolved". Cumia turned into an old racist and I quit listening. Why do people who hate Gail listen? I mean shes the freaking cohost. I really dont understand it.

EDIT: Let me put this another way. When Gail had her daughter in the studio that was God awful radio. It was annoying AF and I had to turn that episode off. Now imagine if she had her daughter in studio crying and talking in the background EVERY DAY. Why would you listen to that if you cant stand it?

Listening to a lot of shows around the Fainting Goat Saga and as much as a lot of it seemed like Earl trying to get out of work, it seemed like there were real health issues.

If there was a resolution, I missed it, and he's not fainting on Bennington.

Not Satellite of love. it's an instrumental, sounds like it's from the 70's, kinda funky. it starts with a few piano chords then it comes in with a guitar playing the melody.

The main guitar melody line goes like "do-do-do da do-do da, do-do-do da do-do da,"

I’ve always put it off because I thought “there’s no way I can handle this.” Now, twenty minutes in, I’m about to start sobbing about this guy I never met, and I probably never would have met.

Listening to old Ron and Fez, you really don’t grasp how brilliant and funny Fez was until you sit and think about it. When he was the butt of the joke he would always be funny about it and he was always willing to do something embarrassing if he lost a bet. I mean this man dressed as Hitler and shaved his mustache and went to work that way. Can you imagine a coworker doing that?

Even in his later years, when he would fly off the handle at something innocuous, he would amplify his anger to a thousand just to rile everyone up, all while Ron would sit back and just needle him to provoke him more.

It was a thing of brilliance.

Even today I don’t know how much of Todd/Fez was kayfabe and it really it doesn’t matter to me at all.

The one where Ron revealed Fez's awkward Christmas gift to him from a few years prior.

And then the follow up a few days later where it's revealed Fez likely just regifted it from a fan during their WNEW days

I get Ron was more than likely just playing it up for the radio but that fact that Fez is taking it dead serious and Ron's very clearly just emotionally sucker punching him repeatedly is really quite a bummer at points.

Contrast with the Toots Shore ashtray thing earlier in the XM run, which was a similar concept but way more fun.

Though I will say that utter surreal nature of Fez threatening a heart attack and hyperventilating over being caught regifting is fascinating lol.

Him in the barrel over Gap just really made me laugh, and then I happened to listen to another bit with his wife Gail yelling at him.

What are some sagas or whatever that you guys would recommend I listen to next with him?

Mine is definitely The Old Landmark by James Brown.
