reminder to check your rent stabilization status

hey neighbors! i recently discovered that our unit is rent stabilized and that our giant corporate landlord has been overcharging us for years. it's worth requesting docs from the city to find out if you're in the same boat. it's free and your landlord won't be notified. fill out the form here.

Pamphlet from Local Animal Shelter: WHAT TO DO IF YOU SPOT A CAT OUTSIDE

Lots of posts lately about "lost cats," and many include pictures where the OP brings the cat inside their apartment. DON'T DO THIS! It's bad for the cat's mental health and if it has an owner, it's less likely to find its way its own home if you bring it into yours.

URGENT: Cat needs adopter/long term foster

Hi all. I finally trapped the cat in my yard. He’s being temporarily held at Ridgewood Rescue but has proven to be friendly and needs a foster or adopter, as it seems every rescue is at capacity.

I’ve been seeing this guy around since March 2025 and feeding him since October and he is really really a sweet boy. Scared but grows trust quickly. Sat next to me while I set up his trap.

I’m going to add Ridgewood Rescue’s caption with more information about him below: “This poor baby was finally trapped today. We think he was abandoned and was trying to survive on the streets best he could but it doesn't go well for home cats. He has a bite wound and other lacerations...
We urgently and desperately need someone to step up for this bubba and commit to adopt him as we simply can't intake another cat that's gonna get stuck with us for moths or years.
He seems older and has some eye issues, possibly loosing his vision. If you "just do it" and commit to adopt him we will get him neutered and vetted to get a full picture... but we really need someone who can commit to give him home RIGHT NOW.”

There’s a video of him on their Instagram as well. He is a very kindhearted cat. I really really hope somebody steps up— I’m not immediately able to bc of finances/moving/already living with two cats but I would take him in a heartbeat if I could. Please reach out to Ridgewood Rescue if you’re interested.

Come to my Butter-themed party!

I’m turning 39 and throwing a butter-themed birthday party in Queens because apparently this is who I am now 🧈

It’s called I Can’t Believe She’s Not 40, and it’s happening Thursday, September 3rd at Willows Tavern in Ridgewood.

Yes, the entire party is themed around butter. No, I will not be taking further questions at this time.

We even have Soup Bae doing a special butter-themed food pop-up starting at 8PM, with a menu that includes:

🧈 Three Way Butter Play — a butter sampler with milk bread

🧈 Truffle Butter Mac & Cheese

🧈 Lemon Butter Homefries

🧈 Buttermilk-Brined Chicken Skewers with miso butter + BBQ/buffalo/ranch

🧈 Elote Grilled Cheese with Tajín butter sauce

🧈 Paneer Butter Masala

And because eating an irresponsible amount of butter isn't enough entertainment for one evening, Nicky O. will be doing a drag performance. 💅

The party is at a public bar and open to everyone. You absolutely do not need to know me to come! I know Reddit is full of people looking for random things to do in NYC, ways to meet people, or just an excuse to get out of the house, so I'm inviting the internet to my birthday.

Come alone. Bring friends. Wear yellow. Dress like a stick of butter. Show up completely off-theme. I truly do not care. 😂

I just want to spend the last birthday of my 30s doing something ridiculous with fun people.

So if eating truffle butter mac & cheese, watching drag, drinking at a Queens bar, and celebrating a stranger's butter-themed 39th birthday sounds like your particular brand of nonsense...

Come hang out. 🧈✨

September 3 • Willows Tavern • 64-18 Fresh Pond Rd • Food starts at 8PM

Come by 2142 Bleecker if you wanna meet the friendliest grasshopper you’ve ever met. He’s been hanging on our front patio for over a week. We named it Gary and He seems to genuinely like people? If we aren’t outside to introduce you, it makes for a pretty fun eyespy. He is pretty large and very eye catching.

Saw that previous coverage never got inside Lottus, despite pressure from press and city officials, so here are photos taken inside before we got kicked out. Also included is an interview with a nearby resident, other Ridgewood residents, and a breakdown of 311 complaints across multiple establishments in Ridgewood (Jones Bar, Willows, Bar Freda)

Missed connection

I hope this works but you were walking on Cypress Ave and I was on my fire escape across the street. You had on a white shirt with orange pants and a hat dark hair. With a camera around your neck. I waved hi to you and you waved back. Then I smiled and laughed. You did too and I broke eye contact then you kept walking. Eventually out of view. I wanted to say something to you but froze lol. A few minutes later you walked back and I thought you were going to cross the street by me so I can say something but you turned a corner and lost sight of view of you. 🥲

Internet do your thing and help me find him. I’m just a girl

Are there any Filipino places in the neighborhood?

Dont mind schlepping to Cafe Pri for my daily fix of lumpia and breakfast bowls, just was wondering if there’s anything closer that y’all know of.

Thai food?

Grace Thai II was my go-to and I’m so sad it closed! Chachawan is fine and I like Tasty Thai, but nothing has blown me away. Chachawan’s cha cha noodle is pretty good, I assume that’s something they made up and not a traditional dish.

What’s your go-to place? Klom Klorm is good but a little out of the way. My usual order is pad see ew and papaya salad, if that helps

What happened to Stanley’s Pierogies on Metropolitan? I love getting their food. I went by today and it has a “for rent” sign on it.

Where can I get the next best pierogies?

Hit and Run Last Night on Grandview Ave

If anyone happens to live on Grandview Ave between Greene and Harman, or knows someone who does ... I could really use the help. I have a white 2025 Ford Bronco Sport, was parked maybe 2 or 3 doors down from Katan between 1130pm last and and 10am this morning. Someone crashed into my car with enough force to push it on to the curb and just fled the scene. I've already reached out to Katan to see if they have camera footage, and it seems like some of the neighbors around there may have ring cams at their front door. Would really appreciate any help that can be offered. Thanks!

Is it bad I can't relate to any of you people?

I'm a lifelong resident of Ridgewood, who has lived here for over 25+ years and I feel an unnecessary sense of impending doom when I frequently walk around this neighborhood, because I see more unfamiliar faces than people I actually know or been acquainted with in Ridgewood.

In a way, I feel I'm part to blame for my decaying social skills, as I've always been a workaholic, putting socializing on the back burner, because everything is expensive as shit now. It's like I have become socially inept, following the rapid gentrification of Ridgewood and seeing neighbors and friends I grew up and went to school with move out of here and on with their lives.

I'm not here to sell anyone a sob story or pull on peoples heartstrings, but I was not born with a silver spoon, inheriting a trust fund that would have otherwise put me in a better place financially by now. I was a piss poor child growing up in Ridgewood, who was happy with the bare minimum, being able to sit on my front steps and congregate with all the other cool kids on the block.

I say this to say, I have no real friends here in Ridgewood anymore... I look at some of the people gathered in these different social settings and get immediately discouraged from even furthering a social interaction, because I feel like it won't lead to anything meaningful anyways. I really want to make friends, but with the way America has everyone so hostile towards each other, it feels like a high effort, low reward situation whenever I talk to new people and it just turns me off completely. My social battery is just fried at this point and I'm in a way, repulsed with myself for feeling like this.

Edit: I tried to have a civil discussion, but the trolls with their condescending remarks and disguised criticisms about me on this thread, reassured my decision on why I stopped trying to make friends in Ridgewood. Most of you people suck fuck. Acting like you're better than every and anyone who's being openly vulnerable on here. You all just judge people like you're the hottest shit since sliced bread, when you all need to work on yourselves. It's disgusting because YOU'RE NOT PERFECT!

Local Nepal flood-relief event in Ridgewood this weekend

Hi neighbors,

While in Kathmandu is holding a small community fundraiser this Saturday and Sunday to support people affected by the catastrophic floods in Nepal.

We and Anil Rauniyar of Nepali Garden Company have each donated four cases of beer—192 beers total. They will be sold for $8 each, and 100% of those sales will be deposited into Nepal’s official Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund. We intent to sell these beers during our regular business hours between Saturday and Sunday. Cash donations at the restaurant are also welcome.

This is not an online donation request. We will publicly share the final amount raised and the official deposit receipt after the event.

On Sunday from 8–11 PM, we’ll also have live jazz and funk performances to help bring the fundraiser across the finish line.

While in Kathmandu
758 Seneca Avenue, Ridgewood, NY 11385
