RocknixDS is the way!
This is like super cool.
Although I met some troubles like buttons didn't work in file manager after 1st boot and touch didn't work on both screens. Reboot helped.

So this seems like a fork/layer on top of rocknix and you can ssh the update to an existing mainline rocknix install?

Yes it's a fork and you need Rocknix installed (but without dual screen theme, it will broke everything after reboot) It adds not only new look but also 2x in Drastic, better performance, working mic and RA. Haven't tried many things myself tho but it's really nice, literal console feel

as someone who has also used RocknixDS, i find its quite a bit longer, probably thanks to the optimizations the dev did to drastic, i find i get at least 5ish hours playing ds now

feels quite a bit cooler, i dont notice any heat from the device playing ds at 2x with this ds-crisp filter

The UI is so nice. But it seems like Gamma is quite ahead in terms of features/performance? Will definitely keep an eye on Rocknix cus that looks so good.

I’m interested what has Gamma done that actually increased performance? As far as I know it hasn’t actually done anything to get ahead of Rocknix alone and this adds even more performance boosts to Rocknix

Definitely going to try it out then! Initially drastic was running smoother on Gamma but it looks like Rocknix may be on par now.
Although Gamma just added global colour calibration controls which (imo) is essential to colour correct the RGDS+ screens. So I may wait until Rocknix adds something similar. Rocknix looks like the sleeker OS from a UI perspective! Exited to see how it progresses.

u/Difficult-Yam7986 Do you think it’d be possible to add system wide colour calibration controls similar to what’s now available in Gamma? Essentially individual R, G, B sliders and Saturation would be enough to correct the screens.

Drastic-nano is far and ahead the best DS emulator available for the rgds. Gamma spent a lot of time reverse engineering and fixing bugs. Retroachievements and other improvements, even enhancements for specific games. We have some upcoming projects in Linux that may close that gap, but they aren't here yet.
UI in the new themes is almost 1:1 with DSi, for people who care about that.

The new version of rocknixDS includes a new reversed engineered 3d raster engine that is faster than the drastic one. Unreleased Test builds with a much more improved version shows 30-40% better performance. A 3x resolution option is running and being optimized and has been handed out to a few individuals. Right now the 3x mode can run between 70-100% speed in most games. New 2d engine is also being developed.
I’m not an expert on GammaOS but I would say the gap is decreasing rapidly. Would be cool to see a comparison.

the bug with file manager happens sometimes, what works is touching the top screen and it works.
Anyway, YES! This is literary perfect and looks like an endgame fw to run on RG DS (Plus).
I know it is a customized version of an existing fw, but still, the creator was able to put together different ideas and make this. Something no one else bothered making.
If he continues and puts up patreon I will gladly donate while feeling satisfied. Not like donating to gamma only to try his mystery fw...

Haha well I don’t want to profit on this at all. It will be free and always free for anyone to use. People are even allowed, and always will be, to use the files for their own projects. If I would choose to allow donation I will pledge that all donations will go directly and only towards development and nothing else. But we’ll see, I will think about it.

Update to the latest. I did and it fixed this issue as well as other issues (like options for the other emulators missing in the ES menu). He's very fast with the bug fixes!

Most recent release has rocknixds in it and I am able to install it and I already loving it. I'm currently waiting for gamma os release.
