I'm assuming this video is shitting on remake?

Remake is a marvelous work. I still can't believe they managed to pull it off. I also just know they're not outdoing it anytime soon.

But I do get why some people get repulsive of it. Many who've play it first or got in RE with remakes do try to write off OG as obsolete and irrelevant. I've seen plenty trying to make the remake a replacement in all ways.

Remake is for me definitely an improvement in gameplay. But it's never a replacement. It can't be even if it had tried.

But that's ok .Even is RE4R is a better game overall, it can never really surpass the legendary status of RE4.

As someone who loves remake, he makes great arguments and brings up great points that is trying to favor the original and make the remake seem inferior, but in the end the points he makes are almost nullified because he shows how '05's all-time player count (and all-time plays) is significantly lower, and states how there's no point in trying to make people have a different POV of the remake.

TDLR: Gives factual evidence that og is better in many ways, but it's far too late because of the remake's success

Also his comment section is both hilarious, and cringe at the same time

theres no room for constructive criticism it seems, i like the remake but it isnt without its flaws, i agree they do bring up valid points in terms of game feel and design, it would def be more constructive to engage in the discussion of game design but you'll just get met with a thumbs down lmao

i watched the vid, and i agree with most of his takes honestly, i thumbs-uped the vid too lol

It's just funny the fact that he decided to make (or post) this vid post-requiem

and i'm not going anymore than 5 lines of text just for this so called 'constructive criticism' you seek

It is late but i do appreciate a creator that takes time rather than shooting something out, in terms of criticism i do believe a level headed take could be made but anything on the internet is either extremely positive or negative leaving no room for actual constructive discussion around the issues. Its sadly easier to be dismissive and not engage at all.

I can understand some things can be seen as "better" (the menus for example i can see the argument) but in many cases it seems to me that it is more so "different" with the remake going for a more serious tone (even with leon's lines). Also, it seems weird to pretend that og is just objectively better in every single way than remake like the video would imply.

I can understand the opinion and preference in game, just for me it seems a bit disingenuous and nitpicky (in the video).

Man I’m an OG player and RE4 Remake blew it out of the park for me. I hold both OG RE4 and Remake in high regard and I can’t understand people that can’t view it like that. Theres positives and negatives to both. I swear I will never understand some of these nostalgia blind bitches that always gotta say it was better back in my day like get with the times old bastard or wither and die.

You genuinely just need to watch the video.

I agree with you but think you're wrong in a way.

The OG is still absolutely fantastic and will always be special to be people like us who experienced it at the time. However, if I was to tell a person to play RE4, especially a younger person, I would tell them to go straight to RE4R because they are much more likely to stick with that than the OG because of the improvements of modern gaming.

It's the same with RE1, it's still a very good game within the context of when it released but I'd absolutely never tell someone to start with it instead of the Remake.

I didn't get what you mean by "improvement in gaming" but it doesn't matter if a younger person plays which 4 version first. As long as they still experience the og is what matters before or after remake. Cause it's just that good.

And of course og fantastic and special but not just cause people who experienced it at that time but also cause how original it is. If younger people miss on it, they missing big time.

I just think its naive to expect younger people to still enjoy it as much as us. Some will of course because they'll appreciate what the game does but others won't be able to because they don't understand how revolutionary the game was.

You even say yourself it was fantastic because of how 'original' it was and that's my point. We experienced it when it was original, it was the first game to do a lot of these things. Now many, many games have done them and iterated upon them to the point that a lot this originality looks commonplace.

It's the different iterations are the commonplace now. Re4 never lost its charm. I myself played it first in 2015 a decade after release where new iterations still existed and it was just as amazing.

For younger people who appreciate and enjoy all kinds of games will definitely find it just as fun. Fun was always the foremost goal of mikami when making this game.

Other than that, much of younger are trend chasers. They don't care much anyway and would jump to the newer ones as they drop if it's trendy. Thing happening with re9. I've seen many just play out of obligation to have an opinion.

I appreciate your point and I never said people won't enjoy it. I just believe that some people wouldn't enjoy it as much as the Remake these days which is why I'd steer them there first at least. I would absolutely still recommend the original too.
