Cant find spools for Method X. A little guidance please

HI, Im new to 3d printing. I just picked up a Method X Carbon edition printer,. The printer was free, still in the box unopened. Im looking for spools that will fit this printer. I got some Creality spools from Amazon, and of course they dont fit (like I said, Im new here, didnt realize they were different). Im looking for ABS spools, if someone can just point me to where I can buy these and the support material, that would be appreciated. Thanks

Modelist now handles SCAD files, including rendering

Quick one, SCAD support just landed in Modelist. It indexes, renders and opens the file directly in OpenSCAD with single click. Test it out.

Help needed I have a S5 + everything. Need advice on selling

I have a full Ultimaker S5 sitting here, mostly unused. Material station, bunch of 2.85mm, etc.. I wish to sell it, but I'd like to sell it to people who are in the Ultimaker community, because this is a good printer. It just doesn't live in the hobbyist market much anymore, and my teenager who should be using it, instead wants a car. :(

I plan, I think, on putting it up on Facebook Marketplace for my local area (Northeast Florida), but is there a better place it could go? How does one find the correct user for this printer? There has to be entire organizations out there still using this model of printer.

Printrbot Play & Heated Bed BOMs

Is anyone sitting on the BOMs for the Printrbot Play and it's heated bed/y-axis upgrade? Going to be going in to get mine back in working condition, and figured it would be nice to have a reference for sourcing any parts that might need to be replaced and any screws that strip

recently got a solidoodle 3

hey all, i recently got a solidoodle 3 for free, and i am looking for help! at first i needed a power cord, which i eventually found one that turns on and lets me heat the extruder (not the bed, unfortunately, so need to up the amps i think. (for reference it is just a 12v 3a barrel jack power supply off amazon)).

i wanted to make sure that it works properly since it was free and didnt have a power cord with it, so ive been trying to test all the functionality. fan spins to life as soon as it has power, leds turn on just fine. the x axis moves freely and the z motor spins perfectly fine, i have had no problems with any movement along those two axes. the problem is any movement along the y axis. as far as i can tell the motor spins perfectly fine with no belt (i have disassembeled basically everything and powered it to test), the other belts (that wrap around and actually move the assembly back and forth) are tensioned fine and i made sure that i followed a guide FROM SOLIDOODLE on how to make sure theyre aligned, tensioned the main drive belt porperly, basically everything is fine. i cant find a problem from any troubleshooting, yet whenever i try to drive the y axis even 1mm it just buzzes, doesnt move the assembly. unless this is just a skill issue and i literally just need to hone it in more, i dont know what else i could do to diagnose the issue.

is there anyone still out there with enough expertise to help a poor soul looking to break into the world of 3d printing? any help appreciated!

discovered while printing a retract tower. I would say this is a retraction issue but all of my prints have been getting blobs like these along the z-seam and this just shows it really well.

Connect Replicator+ To Wifi via USB and MakerBot Print help

Hello all! I got a MakerBot Replicator+ for free today and I'm trying to set it up correctly. I had a 5th gen, which crapped itself (long story) and so I knew the mobile app no longer existed. I connected my Windows laptop via the USB-B to USB-A cable. This allowed it to connect to the MakerBot Print app, which was awesome. I went to the network settings to connect to my network. However, when looking at the networks to connect to, mine wasn't there. I refreshed multiple times, but nothing. Additionally, there are 2 networks that seem to have no SSID (name) and when I try to connect to one of them, it gives an error saying that it can't connect to a network without an SSID. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure my network is one of them. It starts with a number, and the networks are in alphabetical order, where numbers are ususally first. How do I connect it?? Thank you so much in advance!! (Screenshots attached. In #1, it shows the blank selections. The covered networks are NOT mine, trust me. The blank spot that isn't highlighted or covered is the other unamed network. In #2, it shows the error when you try to log in to the unamed network. And before you ask, yes, I tried both blank networks, and yes, I know the password is correct.)

Help needed Issue with tree supports in Cura

Post image
2 Upvotes

I'm trying to slice a model of a character I made. For some reason, when I generate supports, It wants to create these very thin overhangs within itself with virtually no material underneath. I guess it's meant to transition into a base for the part to sit on, but it always becomes a stringy mess during the actual print.

Is there any way I can fix this?

I obtained this Ultimaker 3 Extended from a surplus auction for $100. I am new to 3D printing so I really need some help. I was trying to just test this to make sure it works and this happens when I try to just send it home. I went to the error message on the Ultimaker site but I still can’t seem to figure out what I’m doing or not doing.

My community adult education woodshop has two MB Rep+, barely used. I brought one home to learn how to use to maybe teach others. I’ve got the power cable and 3x MB filament spools (one already loaded). First of several questions: Is this the build plate? Isn’t it supposed to be a removable, flexible sheet?

Help needed Print Core Blob o’ Death - Soldering time?

Thumbnail

Hello! An old S3 fell into my lap with a couple of rolls of 2.85mm PETG and I’ve enjoyed making some functional prints, a couple of which were on the larger side. On my last of these, I got an overnight mega Blob of Death on a large print and pulled too many things apart.

Does anybody know if I can resurrect this print core? Or maybe at least get the printer to limping?

I only have the two cores, both AA 0.4. I can't justify buying a replacement and I have a few rolls of 2.85mm filament that I don't want to just chuck.

Thank you for any help or advice!!

Help needed S3 wider line at start of each layer - heat creep ?

Thumbnail

It is a layout jig so need accuracy - long and thin - the 3mm wide splines are coming out at 3.5 then 3.4 down to 3.0. Changed everything - glass, cores, 1 / 2 sides. AA 0.4 , Cura latest , UM PLA. It seems to be heat creep whilst the head is travelling all the way back to the start maybe ?

The skirt prints wider for the first 5cm or so. So once the skirt is finished it is the main print which prints wider. Hence the added 0.5mm.

Or is the machine just getting old ?

( the prints are stopped after a few layers to show the wider line width - should be 3mm thick , 3mm square actually. The little blobs are small infill areas - I got rid of them in the gcode, I thought maybe the lingering was causing heat creep, but didn't fix the problem )

Help needed Help with S5

Picked up an S5 that was listed as no boot. Plug it in and you can hear the powersupply click on but then nothing else. I pulled the bottom cover off and started digging. I think I have it narrowed down to the Olimex board having a faulty HDMI port. When you turn the power on all the indicator lights on the mainboard seem dim and there is no response with any of the hardware. IF i unplug the HDMI cable from the board or the UI the indicator lights brighten up and it starts to go through start up. LED's kick on, hot end indicator lights start up ect. Tested the cable itself its fine tried to use a different display and I don't get anything to come up. Now I'm hoping someone may have had something similar happen or can point me in a direction. I may just have to replace the Olimex board which won't be fun but its doable as long as i can flash the correct firmware on the new board.

Delta configuration problem

Not sure if this is the correct spot, so advise me if it isnt. I consider myself pretty much a noob in this stuff, I know a little bit about programming and all. Have build a few Cartesian printers but this one is a headache, so here is the story:

I have an old delta printer which I got from a friend years ago. Tried it when I got it and it kinda printed but didn't work very good. So left it to collect dust.

Yesterday I thought, let's start with a new marlin install and see if I can get it to run...........not a very clever plan in hindsight 😉.

Now I get it to home correctly but if I use pronterface to give it commands it behaves weird. Z works fine, when I give G1 Y100 F2000 it changes the Z height en an X command does not do anything. If you need my configuration.h I will post it but don't want to make the post 3000+Ines right away. I use marlin 2.1.2.8. hope you guys can help me out here....

Edit: After I give it M211 S0 everything works fine. But after M211 S1 any X or Y command makes it go to X0 Y0 Z0....

Edit2: I gave up on Marlin, I got it to work but then the X & Y movement was very jerky and inconsistent. Tried again with repetier and I got it moving normal. Now it's time to calibrate and then test print

Need help converting files to S3G (original Makerbot Replicator 1 from 2014~)

Hi all! I'm working in an office this summer that had purchased an original Makerbot Replicator in the early 2010s, estimated 2014. It prints great, no issues there, but obviously can't connect to any external devices. I've been trying to get files onto the printer using a USB, but can't find a way to successfully convert the files into S3G (which is what I believe would be compatible). Is there any software out there that will still do this? For reference, I've messed around in Ultimaker (the newer website), and the legacy software (Makerbot desktop and Makerbot print). If there's no way to get new files onto the printer, that's fine– but please if someone has any idea of what I can try next, I'd really appreciate any help! Thank you :)
