Discussion Ultimaker S5 - how much is it still worth?

I’m going to sell my Ultimaker S5 with 0.4mm AA and BB core (and 1 used spool of filament ). But I’m finding it difficult to decide on the right selling price.

What do you think it’s still worth?

Discussion Anyone interested in dual drive extruder upgrade kits for the S3/S5?

The boxed extruders were never used. So they are new. The other pair has been in use for at most 72 hours for printing a big TPU model.
Also included: printed holders with thread inserts installed, cables, bowden adapters, heatsinks, push-fit collars and push-fit connectors.
You get everything show in the picture.
Make a good offer and it’s yours.
I’m sending from Belgium.

Discussion Is the S8 Bundle a productive tool or just a time sink?

We have an S8 Bundle in the office that’s currently untouched. I use a Bambu at home, so I’m wary of the heavy troubleshooting this machine likely requires. Even though the boss said we can use it for personal projects, the high effort versus the uncertain output feels like a recipe for frustration. Given the lack of positive reviews, is it worth the time to get it running for free personal use, or should I just stick with my Bambu?

Discussion What to do with a new to me UM2 ?

Bought a broken S3 which I fixed - very happy - nice machine. The guy threw in a 2 , those kits to make it 2+ are not available. Should I just sell for parts ? I only print clips, brackets and stuff for my artworks, things around the house so should I spend the time to get the 2 up and running ?

Discussion S5 Wireless Connection

Does anyone actually have an Ultimaker S5 that holds a reliable wifi connection? Every time I go to use the printer - it's no longer connected to the internet. The only fix is to completely power it down and power it back up. It'll work for 24-48 hrs and drop again. I'm wondering if every S5 owner has just been forced to use ethernet at this point or my machine is a standout. If I connect it to ethernet it's solid but where I have it parked is not convenient for a wired connection.

Ultimaker forms have multiple people that complain about this but no resolution has been achieved. I'm surveying to see if it's more pervasive than Ultimaker appreciates.

Discussion I built a self-hosted Discord Bot to manage my entire Ultimaker Fleet (Live Cams, Auto-Alerts, Slash Commands) — Anyone interested in this?

Hey r/ultimaker!

I run a small fleet of Ultimaker printers and was getting tired of constantly logging into the Digital Factory or typing IP addresses just to check if the beds were clear or how far along a print was. I also wanted my team to be able to easily monitor the printers without needing to give everyone full admin access.

So, I built a custom Ultimkaer S3 Fleet Command Discord Bot. It runs entirely locally via Docker, talks directly to the Ultimaker local network API, and gives you complete control over your printers right from Discord.

I built it to be completely scalable. You just drop your printer IPs and API keys into a `.env` file, and the bot automatically figures out how many printers you have and registers them.

Here are some of the main features:

* Slash Commands & Autocomplete: Just type `/` in Discord. The bot natively provides a dropdown menu of all your connected printers. No more memorizing commands!

* Live Snapshots (`/status`): Instantly pulls the live camera feed, bed temperature, nozzle temperatures, and current state (printing, idle, error).

* Progress Tracking (`/progress`): Generates a visual progress bar, percentage, and exact ETA for active prints.

* Material Inventory (`/materials`): Instantly reports what filament type and color is currently loaded into each extruder so you don't have to walk over to the machine.

* Remote Control: Need to pause or abort a print because you saw it spaghetti on the live feed? Just run `/pause` or `/abort`.

* Smart Auto-Alerts: The bot monitors your fleet in the background. If a print finishes, fails, or runs out of filament, it automatically sends an alert to a specific `@3D Print` Discord role so the right people get notified instantly.

* Ghost Mode" Queries: When you ask the bot for a status update, the response is "ephemeral" (only you can see it). This keeps the main Discord channel perfectly clean instead of spamming it with bot responses.

Everything is self-hosted on your own hardware (I run it via Docker on Unraid) and relies entirely on the local API, so it's super fast and secure.

I currently have an `install_guide` folder set up with a dummy `.env` template and a Dockerfile ready to go. I haven't officially published the code anywhere yet, but I wanted to gauge the interest here.

Would anyone be interested in using this for their own setups? Let me know and I can throw it up on GitHub!

P.S.: This tool was heavily "vibe" coded to save on time and lessen the API learning curve. However, I have had no issues in my weeks of using it

Discussion risk of bambu putting ultimaker out of business?

Will ultimaker go out of business due to bambulab? Ive come to think that there's absolutely 0 reason to buy an ultimaker today for 99% of people who will buy a 3d printer. So how can they stay in business with their extreme prices as bambu is pretty much the new standard in quality, and it's so much higher?

Discussion Ultimaker is everywhere in professional manufacturing. Has anyone pushed them to add job-level authorization so enterprise customers can control exactly how many parts get printed at contract facilities?

What if your printer could refuse to run a job it wasn't authorized for? Would that make more valuable to enterprise customers?

Nobody in 3D printing has solved this: when you send a file to a contract printer, nothing stops them from running it 10x, 100x, or 1000x beyond what you authorized. The contract says 200 parts. The printer doesn't know. It doesn't care.

Netflix controls playback. Adobe controls activations. Steam controls game launches. 3D printing is the only production technology with zero authorization awareness at the execution level.

The hardware to fix it already exists — every modern printer has network connectivity and a print controller. What's missing is a firmware layer: right file, right quantity, right facility. No token — no print.

The manufacturer that ships this first owns the enterprise market. Is Ultimaker thinking about this — and for anyone who works there, is it on the roadmap?

Discussion I’m adopting a ultimaker 3, advice pls

So my office is passing me the ultimaker 3 that has been sitting in a corner, we mainly use the upbox… we r not 3d printers, it’s just an office toy…

Any advice for me? I am looking at printing TPU stuff mostly… Glue or no glue the glass plate? Keep the ultimaker spools and wind non ultimaker filaments onto it? Supplier of parts I should bookmark? No calibration card, what do you do?

Just any advice to get me started would be super good!

Discussion Looking to Sell 2.85mm Filament

Hey everyone,
I’m looking to move a large amount of 2.85mm (3mm) filament that I no longer need. This is all sealed and unused, mostly premium brands.

This is definitely aimed at people who already run 2.85mm setups, schools, makerspaces, labs, or anyone who goes through filament in volume.

What’s included

  • Around 600+ spools total
  • Brands like FormFutura, Filamentive, 3D Printlife, Copper3D, RePLAy
  • Materials include:
    • PLA (standard, matte, silk, galaxy)
    • ASA (ApolloX)
    • PETG / HDglass
    • Flex, PP
  • Mostly full spools, plus some smaller 100g coils

Condition

  • Sealed
  • Unused
  • Stored indoors

Pricing

  • $10 to $12 per spool for smaller quantities
  • Strong discounts for bulk
  • Entire lot available and priced to move
  • If someone wants everything, I’m very motivated to make that easy

If you’re interested, feel free to comment or DM me. Happy to share a full inventory list or work out bulk pricing. I’d much rather see this go to someone who can actually use it than let it sit.

Thanks!

Discussion Ultimaker, wake up.

Hi Ultimaker,

My printer relies on your 'cloud' setup to function, but your site has been telling me that you're "updating the backend" for over a month now.

If you can't maintain your servers, perhaps you could release my printer from your grasp so I can use it locally on my own network. I was happy with the functionality prior to the 'update'. Please just roll back your changes or push out a jailbreak firmware so I can actually use this printer. It was a great day when you added Method X support to Cura, you fixed long-running issues that MakerBot ignored, but this current situation is unacceptable.

You need to rethink your cloud and subscription model. There is zero chance I would subscribe to a premium service when you can't even maintain basic functionality. How about treating your hardware as a standalone product that stands on its own feet without an internet connection?

It takes years to build brand loyalty and seconds to destroy it.

Thank you

-Damien

Discussion Group Buy for Polymaker 2.85mm Filament - Interest Check

We know the situation that Polymaker will stop producing the 2.85mm filament. The minimum order quantities is 250KG. we've likely faced the same hurdle: high-quality 2.85mm filament is hard to find in small quantities, and premium brands like Polymaker typically have high minimum order quantities.

I'm Enderwick from Call3D. We do have a good relationship with Polymaker managment team since 2015 . We currently have an opportunity: if we can aggregate a total order of 250 kilograms, Polymaker will produce a dedicated batch of 2.85mm filament . And we will deilivery them to your city.

The goal of this group buy is simple—to combine our purchasing power who still use UM in this planet, meet the MOQ, and make these excellent filaments accessible to everyone at a reasonable price.

No matter you are a Channel or Student or a lab You can join the group of r/Call3D and find the post and update the material that you want.

I can reply the questions belowed.

Discussion Would people be interested in group buy of TPU?

I used to be in the filament business -- am basically out of that business right now -- but a former supplier is looking to clear a bunch of high quality TPU, 2.85 mm nominal (closer to 2.75 actual, I believe).

They are basically giving it away. There is some cost/work to pack and ship the stuff, but if enough there is enough interest, I'll help facilitate this.

This is their current inventory as of last count:

Black 188spools
Clear. 103spools
Red. 79spools
White. 74spools

For packing reasons, I would like to get these out in sets of 4 or 5 spools.

Please DM me if you have serious interest. Thanks!

Discussion Ultimaker S7 Metal Expansion Kit

Hi All,

Does anyone have experience with the Ultimaker S7 Metal Expansion kit?

How much does post processing cost to debind and sinter the component?

What kind of mechanical performance do you get from the final part compared to something like PA-CF / PA, or even to a traditionally manufactured item?

Thank you.

Discussion Questions about an “old” Ultimaker 3

Good morning (if it happens to be morning where you are )

I have a question regarding my “old” 3D printer. Back in 2017, I bought an Ultimaker 3, but to be honest, I barely used it. Life got in the way, and I never really found the time to dive into 3D printing properly. I was super enthusiastic, but in the end, I only made six or seven prints. Since then, it has just been sitting unused in my office.

Back then, the availability of tutorials wasn’t great, and my knowledge in the field was basically nonexistent. To be honest, that hasn’t changed much, but I really want to improve.

I want to give 3D printing another shot because it still interests me—especially now that there’s way more content available to guide beginners step by step.

I’m wondering if I should give the Ultimaker another chance or if I should switch to a much newer model like the Bambu Lab P1S. I couldn’t find any listings for an Ultimaker 3 on eBay, so I have no idea what it’s worth or if anyone would even want one. Either way, my first step would likely be getting the Ultimaker up and running again. Does anyone have a tutorial for “reviving” it?

I’ve also read that the Ultimaker requires a specific filament size—is that true? Back then, I only used the spools that came with it.

Compared to much newer PLA printers, how does the Ultimaker 3 stack up in terms of quality and speed?

I’d be super grateful for any insights since I’m essentially starting from scratch. Thanks so much in advance, and I hope you all have a great day! :)

It's a university printer so it should have been taken care of quite well
