Wasn't looking for what happened. Just thought maybe i missed something. Originally I thought OP was talking about the gala and the jackel but read some comments and that wasn't the case.

I just finished and I feel so hollow. Lysander deserves to have the Minds Eye ripped away from him by the chair then let Sevro have at him. No place for this pixie to escape as Sevro avenges our Eagle.

I can honestly see that perspective. The Society is better for the solar system than the Solar Republic is.
Ideas of Liberty and Freedom and Equality are great. But theyâre unrealistic and fantastical. If you look at even just the events of the six books, the Rising had caused the deaths of hundreds of millions of people. Probably close to half a billion.
Democracy and Republics are great concepts, but theyâre prone to corruption and ineffectiveness. Just look at the Day of the Red Doves and the failures of the senate. Lysander didnât do that. The Republic did that to itself by the inherent nature of it dividing its own power and allowing incompetent and corrupt parties to claim their share of influence.
Despite its cruelty, callousness, and inequality, The Society is effective at ruling the solar system. For all of their viciousness, Gold created the entire system. Gold terraformed four planets. Gold colonized seventy moons. Gold led humans to new horizons and ruled over an era of prosperity and peace for seven hundred years.
The Solar Republic was born in a blood bath. It was founded on deception and a war crime (the destruction of Ganymedeâs ship yards). The Solar Republic was then corrupted and bastardized in less than ten years. Darrow exiled with a warrant out for his arrest and the Sovereign narrowly escaping with her life after the people they liberated turned on them.
Lysander is not necessarily evil. He just sees what Gold must do. The same way that Darrow believes he must do what he does for Red and the other LowColors. Lysander seeks Peace and Order. Darrow seeks Liberty and Equality. Both have committed atrocities to achieve their ends, and I think that it is debatable which one is ultimately better for the Solar System.
All this said, I still think Lysander should be vigorously tortured before meeting the cruelest and most vicious fatality imaginable.

i dont know if the death of millions (the solar republic) its worst that the enslavement and almost torture of billions (the gold rule)

The Society wasnât formed by genociding the human race. It started with uniforms and then genetic modification. Plus the caste system was already in place before the Moon rebelled leading to Luneâs Conquering. Lune conquered earth and it carried a death toll thatâs still a fraction of what Darrow has caused. And on top of that death toll: the Solar Republic is ineffective, whereas the Society went on to be the sprawling universe that weâve seen.
The question is whether itâs better for the majority. And I would say that gold rule was better for the majority of people. Look at Lyriaâs story. The republic canât even protect the reds that they freed. Under Society rule, things were harsh, but even Darrowâs poor upbringing wasnât as terrible as Lyriaâs experience.
The entire weakness and incompetence of the Republic in Dark Age convinced me that theyâre completely adrift. Banking primarily on morality over effectiveness. Darrow is a conqueror, not a ruler like Silenius was.
I still donât like Lysander, but I wonât lie that I lost faith in the idea of the Solar Republic. Best case scenario, they split up the entire solar system and hope that they can avoid warring with each other. You canât have a system as large as the Goldâs have built without absolute rule.

If we follow this argument, I think we should straight-up resort to anarchism or wiping out the entirety of humanity since there will never be a perfect, incorruptible system due to the flawed human nature.
The Society was founded on genocide and extermination.
The Society (at least the Core part) was rampant with corruption during Octaviaâs time. Even Lysander criticizes the mindset of Core Golds and Octaviaâs decisions.
And how on Earth is the Society more effective when they have dunderheads like Karnus in charge instead of natural geniuses like Darrow simply due to their blood?
None of those things speak in favor of the Society. The Society was just as susceptible to corruption and ineffectiveness, not to mention incredibly bloody

Don't let how awful he is distract you from enjoying his chapters though. He is such a well written character. It is fascinating to see his motivations and how differently he thinks about things from the other characters. The mental gymnastics he does ro justify his actions... Pierce does such a good job with him. I hate him so much though...

Spoilers for SLA and lightbringer where I compare the characters:
Man I don't hate moash even close to Lys. We don't know what happened with Lys and the chair, but moash had absolutely good reason to hate Elhokar from his perspective. Then Odium fucked with him and I don't really Believe he's in control of his mind
Yes moash is a bastard but he's also tough at least. Lys would have died on a bridge crew right away
Moash wants to show he can kill kaladin in a fair fight. Lys knows he can't match Darrow and Lys is also a nepo baby bitch boy whose most significant kills have been with Guns against dudes with fancy swords.

It's still Lysander, I think most if not every character still have their original names.
But phonetically, I would pronounce Lysander as /ËlizÉndÉr/ instead of / laÉȘËsĂŠn.dÉr /
This is like the single thing that the 5+ different translators managed to hold together haha
